Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that the image of Powell with a test tube has long become the personification of «the hypocrisy and conviction of the US ruling elite in their own impunity.» He also noted that the whole story indicates that the American elites are convinced of their own indisputable right «to arrogantly teach the rest of the world, using force against a deliberately weak adversary in order to maintain their own global hegemony.»
Ryabkov noted that Colin Powell was a decent man and a much more professional diplomat than his successors.
“We even admit that he was tormented by a conscience that the American political class, especially the leaders of the modern generation, is not inherent in principle,” he said, noting that more Americans will not get away with stories like Iraq.
«The United States is now objectively unable to resort to a scenario of force whenever it wants to, without serious consequences for itself,» he said, recalling the failure of the Afghan campaign.
According to Ryabkov, the Americans will have to «rebuild on new tracks» and free themselves from the «permissiveness syndrome», as well as reckon with the opinion of the Russian Federation, China and other countries.
