The main oil field of Al Omar and Conoco in Syria are producing oil which is shipped in tankers by the U.S. Army and refined at Kar Oil Refinery in Erbil.
Dizayee was the owner of the Falcon Group, which is a business involved in oil and gas, agriculture and security. The IRG claimed its missiles targeted a “Mossad headquarters”.
“No U.S. facilities were impacted. We’re not tracking damage to infrastructure or injuries at this time,” a U.S. official said in response to the recent attack.
Prime Minister of the IKR, Masrour Barzani, condemned the IRG attacks on Erbil.
The Oil business in Erbil
The oil business is thriving in IKR, and the Falcon Group was part of it. Kurdish oil has been exported to Israel, Italy, France and Greece through a secretive trade depending on pre-pay deals.
Israel received its first substantial seaborne crude oil shipment from the IKR in 2014, which is the same time the U.S. occupation forces arrived in Syria. Israel was reportedly importing as much as three-quarters of its crude oil needs from the IKR by mid-2015.
Israeli refineries and oil companies imported almost $1 billion worth of Kurdish oil between May and August of 2023, according to shipping data, trading sources and satellite tanker tracking, which represents about 77 % of average Israeli demand, which runs at roughly 240,000 barrels per day. More than a third of all of the northern Iraqi exports, which are shipped from Turkey’s Mediterranean port of Ceyhan, went to Israel over the period.
According to anonymous sources, it was a Mossad agent who first traveled to Erbil to negotiate the deal to buy oil from IKR, which was facilitated by U.S. officials.
The U.S. Consulate in Erbil
The new U.S. Consulate General building in Erbil, near the attack carried out by Iran, is the biggest consulate complex built by the U.S. Embassies and Consulates are under the U.S. State Department, but the consulate in Erbil has a connection to the U.S. Department of Defense, demonstrating the strategic importance of the region for Washington, with a U.S. military base also in IKR.
Irvin Hicks, Jr., the U.S. Consul General in Erbil, stated in January 2023, that the new 800-million-dollar consulate building is a clear statement that the “United States of America is not going anywhere.”
The U.S. first opened a diplomatic office in Erbil in February 2007, and later upgraded to a consulate general in 2011, the same year the U.S.-NATO attack on Syria began for regime change, under the Obama-Biden administration.
The U.S. embassy in Baghdad was built in 2009 and is its biggest mission compound in the world at a cost of $750 million. Iraqi Kurdistan and the Iraqi central government in Baghdad operate separately, as the Kurds are a semi-autonomous region.
Erbil has 30 consulates, six honorary consulates, and six foreign trade offices, with the Japanese consulate the latest to open on Jan. 11.
Iran views the foreign offices as having the potential to carry out plans aimed at destabilizing the security of Iran, by hosting Iranian separatist groups and bases aligned with Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.
The Iraqi response to the Genocide in Gaza
“On October 20, 2023, the Department ordered the departure of eligible family members and non-emergency U.S. government personnel from U.S. Embassy Baghdad and U.S. Consulate General Erbil due to increased security threats against U.S. government personnel and interests,” according to the State Department’s Iraq travel advisory.
Iraqis have taken to the streets to protest the U.S. complicity in the genocide being committed in Gaza by Israel. U.S. President Joe Biden has defied the American values of human rights and international law by continuing to send weapons to Israel to promote the wholesale slaughter of the Palestinian civilians of Gaza, even in the face of international criticism which has lowered the image of America as a beacon of freedom to a joke.
Protests have taken place outside of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, and military groups which are under the central government of Iraq have fired rockets and armed drones at U.S. troops based in Anbar and near Erbil multiple times. Baghdad does not recognize Israel; however, the IKR are aligned with the U.S., and sell the stolen oil from Syria to the prime U.S. ally, Israel.
The U.S. invaded and destroyed Iraq in 2003, and occupied the country for years until a withdrawal. When ISIS reared its ugly head, the Baghdad government requested U.S. troops to come to help in the fight against ISIS, which saw its defeat at the hands of Iraq, Syria, Russia, and the U.S. The Iraqi parliament ordered the U.S. troops to leave after the defeat of ISIS in 2017, but the Department of Defense refused. The Prime Minister of Iraq has recently ordered the U.S. troops to leave immediately following the U.S. assassination of Mushtaq Jawad Kazim al-Jawari in Baghdad on January 4, an Iraqi military commander who was instrumental in the defeat of ISIS.
Farhan Jamil Abdullah, head of the Syrian Oil Company, said in July that as a result of the U.S. sanctions and military occupation in Syria, oil production has decreased to 15,000 barrels per day from 385,000 barrels before 2011.
Firas Hassan Kaddour, the Syrian Oil Minister, said in July that the losses of the energy sector in Syria are close to 100 billion U.S. dollars.

Turkey has condemned the U.S. alliance with the SDF and YPG, and considers the U.S. is financing terrorism.
The commander of the SDF is General Mazloum Kobani, who is also a member of the PKK. His real name is Ferhat Abdi Sahin, is one of Turkey’s most wanted terrorists. Kobani was chosen by the U.S. as their military ally and it is at Kobani’s command that the stolen Syrian oil is loaded into tankers.
Erdogan has demanded for years that the U.S. must stop supporting the SDF, YPG, and to stop encouraging the Kurds to establish an independent homeland in north east Syria on the border with Turkey, which is a NATO member, and ally of the U.S., housing an American military base there.
Milei forgets the basics: there is no fascist constitution, whether by Franco, Salazar, Mussolini or Pinochet that doesn’t mention freedom, the fundamental structure of the regime.
No wonder Elon Musk likes it and the neo-fascist right is euphoric. After all, Milei has attacked all of his illusory, contradictory and paradoxical enemies. A look on the main search engines is not misleading: the corporate press has rejoiced at the imminent anti-socialism manifesto that Mr. Milei says is coming. A West with increasingly savage capitalism is waiting for socialism tomorrow! It defies all dialectics!
Of course, there’s no point in trying to explain that his speech is ontologically impossible. To accuse the “Davos elites” of pushing the West towards “socialism”… Elites that group together the richest people in the world, with the most accumulated capital… defies all understanding… If any socialism is coming, it must be some kind of “inverted socialism”.
Understanding is a real exercise in sanity. Milei begins by saying that “the West is in danger”. Within Milei’s logic, we’ll never know if he thinks it’s the world that’s going to be left without a “West”, or if it’s his ideal of a “liberal West”, the same one that feeds the vulture funds that destroyed Argentina’s economy, that he’s referring to.
Milei says that “those who are supposed to defend Western values” are co-opted by a worldview that leads to “socialism” and therefore to poverty. It’s not even worth mentioning that “socialism” in China has lifted more than a billion human beings out of misery and poverty, but the fact is that, when we look at policies in the West, we have to ask ourselves: is it privatization on the cheap, dollarization or financialization and the concentration of wealth, in fewer and fewer hands, that we should find the key to the “socialism” Milei is talking about?
According to Milei, the West is still moving towards what he calls “collectivism”. Well, when in the “West”, collectivist parties (communists, socialists…) have fewer and fewer votes, the “collectivist” trade unions, i.e. those that base their action on the dialectical class struggle, work with increasing difficulty; the “collectivist” labor laws are regressing, giving way to precariousness, the destruction of collective bargaining and the deregulation of working hours; the “collective” sports clubs, i.e. associations and recreational clubs, are seeing their main income – soccer – bought up by individual investors; states privatize and bet on Public Private Partnerships, which pay individual entrepreneurs handsomely; teleworking, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, threaten to break up society and drive people apart, individualizing them; mobility, migration, which causes people to become socially uprooted from their community, making us individuals among strangers… After all, dear Milei… Where is all this “collectivism”? There are almost no cooperatives, associations have no power, the state has less and less power and property… So where is collective property?
We are therefore left without knowing which “collectivist experiments” he is referring to. It can’t be identitarian idealism, itself a form of individualism, which seeks difference rather than mutual identification and equality. Nor does it refer to the environmental agenda, insofar as it bets precisely on solutions that are based only and solely on technologies and methodologies that the West has to sell. In other words, the Western green agenda creates new cycles of accumulation rather than destroying existing ones. In the end, just like the digital or energy agenda, it only contributes to more concentration of wealth, in fewer and fewer hands. And none of them are states. The only “collective” form I can find are the big Western capitalist corporations, but those are the ones who support Milei and are in Davos.
But Milei’s speech is tremendously rich. In it we find the alpha and omega of ignorance, imbecility and pamphleteering hypocrisy, masquerading as visionary discourse. Next to Milei, the European fascists of the 1930s and the Latin Americans of the 1970s and 1980s were intellectualized visionaries. What a step backwards!
He says that his fellow Argentinians are the first to witness this paradoxical reality. It’s also paradoxical that everyone is in the street…. against him. Therefore, we also don’t know which Argentinians he is referring to, because if we look at the size and violence of the demonstrations, many of those who voted for him will have already opened their eyes and woken up from the “imaginary anti-socialist” spell.
Milei’s anti-socialism, his anti-collectivism, are so strong, so vehement and absorbing that they affect his sensory function, enclosing him in a kind of schizophrenic bubble, comparable only to that of someone who has been in solitary confinement for too long. He begins to see what doesn’t and can’t exist.
Mr. Milei says that in 1860 “a model of freedom” was adopted and that later, in the 20th century, Argentina embraced the “collectivist” model. Now, according to the 2018 census, 96% of Argentine land was private and not collective, public or social. Only 3% is public. With Milei, that 3% will surely be – or already has been – sold off, at a bargain price, to a few privileged “collectivists”. State-owned companies, around 100 in 2016, accounted for little more than 1% of total employment. Slightly more than “socialist” Germany, less than the also “collectivized” Netherlands, Israel, Greece, New Zealand, Austria, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, France, and Norway, with almost 10% of employment guaranteed by state-owned companies, should be considered, according to Milei’s calculations, an “ultra-collectivist and radical communist” power.
Milei points out that it was “collectivism” or “socialism” that took Argentina from being one of the richest countries at the beginning of the 20th century to one of the poorest – which is not even the case – in the 21st century. According to him, everything that exists in any civilized country, such as subsidies for the most needy, pensions from a public social security system, civil servants and public services, and which have existed in the liberal West for almost 100 years, make Argentina a “socialist” country, even though it has a private property structure on a par with the rest. And all this “socialism”, which Milei wants to end, paradoxically coexisted with what he points to as the golden age of his free-enterprise capitalism (between 1950 and 2023) and which he refers to as a success story. Let’s get this straight! And to think that 30 years ago, both Europe and the U.S. had more public ownership and higher quality public services than today.
What hasn’t made any difference to Mr. Milei – perhaps we should ask him where he’s been – are the successive loans his country has taken out from the IMF, the dependence on the dollar and the constant interference of the U.S. in Argentine affairs, the handing over of the country’s reserves to vulture funds… Not a word about all this. The problem isn’t even that Milei doesn’t know the world’s reality… It’s that he doesn’t know his own country.
According to him, free-enterprise capitalism is the only way to guarantee the end of poverty. So why hasn’t it ended poverty in Africa, Asia, India and almost all of Latin America, including Argentina?
All the data Milei points to contradicts his assumption that the Western liberal capitalist model is the solution. Let’s see, he says that under capitalism, world GDP doubled every 23 years. What he doesn’t mention is the contribution of countries like China, the USSR, India, Russia, Iran, Vietnam, Indonesia and Brazil to this effort, particularly between 1950 and 2023. All countries of the global south and some socialist. For example, between 1917 and 1991, the USSR’s GDP multiplied 11 times. 11 times in 74 years! Now compare this with Milei’s data!
China, on the other hand, went from a GDP of 150 million dollars in 1978 to a GDP of 8.227 trillion in 2012! Is it worth calculating, Mr. Milei? No, it’s not! Even that of capitalist Russia, which he doesn’t integrate into the West and will consider “socialist” too, between 1999 and 2013, its GDP per capita went from 1.4 thousand dollars, to over 15 thousand in 2013. These countries may have contributed a little something to all this success, no?
And considering that two of them, which are extremely populous and fall within Milei’s enemy camp, have even contributed decisively to the rapid growth of the world’s GDP, specifically in the best period pointed out by Milei… We have to ask: but who did Milei’s math? Some UK tabloid?
Not only does Mr. Milei confuse world growth with the growth of capitalism as a whole, even when the contributions of “socialist” countries (in reality or only in Milei’s imagination) are decisive, but he also confuses capitalism with the West, when, in the world, other capitalist countries, which Milei imagines – perhaps out of ignorance and imbecility – as socialist, have contributed decisively to the figures he so fallaciously presents.
If you do the math like that, one thing is certain. Argentina is going into the deepest hole it can dig. And he says the evidence is indisputable. And this gentleman works at the World Economic Forum.
Of course, we can’t deny the decisive contribution that capitalism has made to raising the material base of humanity. After all, that’s why it developed, why it won and why it replaced the previous mode of production. But what capitalism hasn’t solved is poverty and the fair distribution of wealth. The real eradication of extreme poverty has only happened in socialist countries (de facto), or in capitalist countries that Milei considers “socialist”, because the state owns public property and has an important function in redistributing wealth.
For Milei, the problem is therefore social justice. Social justice that he will confuse with “socialism” and “collectivization”, in a confusion of concepts that denotes the very uneducated and uncultured character of the circles that surround him.
When you know that, for example, in Europe, which he says is disappearing as a model of “Western values”, if the state didn’t make social transfers, poverty would increase from 20 to over 40%, as it did in Argentina with his entry, the question remains: does social justice fight poverty or not, Mr. Milei? Let’s see, we live in Western liberal states, which he says are moving towards “socialism”, but are not there yet; states with freedom of enterprise, almost total domination of property by the private sector, individualism and open capital markets; and, in this almost ideal model, poverty would more than double if the state didn’t practice some – little – social justice. How can we trust Milei?
And it’s at this point in the speech that Milei tells us that he draws his physiocratic inspiration from Hayek and Kirzner, proposing the return of a jungle that we thought was gone. Hayek and Kirzner, themselves the result of a theoretical reaction to the proposals of philosophers like Marx or even Keynes, aimed to build a theory that would justify keeping wealth always in the hands of the richest, saying that the state was the one distorting the economy with its taxes and subsidies for the “lazy” workers.
It is this quasi-medieval thinking that Milei’s proposal represents, precisely when all the countries of the global south ultimately want is to develop and improve their conditions of social justice. Of course, Milei, a radical Westerner, sees the enrichment of the countries of the global south as a danger. Since wealth isn’t infinite – and he knows this – the more the BRICS, for example, get richer, the less the West will pillage. And from there we come to the only thing I agree with Milei on: the Western model is at stake!
Milei says that capitalism is “virtuous” because it “promotes peace”. Well, what will the victims of World Wars I and II, the victims of the colonization of America, the black slaves who were victims of “blanquemento” (whitening) in Argentina, or the opium wars promoted by England say? All this in the period in which Milei places the development of free-enterprise capitalism.
It would be good for Milei to take a tour of the Middle East to see how peaceful the world is today. It would be good for him to spend a vacation in the trenches of the Donbass, to understand how his West plunders, oppresses and maneuvers. Perhaps, if you spent a forced vacation in some Libyan slave market and were thrown on a rubber dinghy across the Atlantic, you would change your mind about the peaceful character of Western imperialist capitalism.
Thinking that he has given the world a lesson in economics, what Milei has given us is a glimpse into her disturbed mind and his pathological inability to perceive reality as something alive and in motion. It would be enough to take away from the West, which he defends so much, all the plundering that it has perpetuated on the rest of the world since the Roman Empire, to perhaps realize that without the plundering, without the conditioning, without the appropriation of what belongs to others, this West could never achieve the wealth figures he talks about.
But the icing on the cake, among the most typical pictures of human dementia, is when, after giving a supposedly “anti-globalist” speech, Milei ends up addressing the globalist businessmen of Davos (there isn’t one who isn’t), telling them that they are heroes!
By ending with a “Viva la Libertad carajo”, Milei forgot the basics: there is no fascist constitution, whether by Franco, Salazar, Mussolini or Pinochet (his real-life hero?) that doesn’t mention freedom, the fundamental structure of the regime. Not one! The problem is, as with Milei, the divorce with reality itself!
Although NATO’s Mamluks might well have had their day, their race is not yet fully run.
Quick! Get the word out. We will be at war with Russia, China, Iran & North Korea almost quicker than you could say: a cod, two haddock, four singles, no salt and lashings of vinegar. In Putin’s latest escalation between our civilised world and his fat-phobic alliance, Russia is now blocking British ships from poaching cod, ray and haddock off their Siberian coast which, NATO’s media scream, is “more or less” in Britain’s backyard. The world, or at least Britain’s fish and chips world as we know it, is finished.
Although Rudyard Kipling, or any other apologist for Albion’s long imperial legacy, would have a field day with that Russian blockade against chips-chomping Britannia, NATO’s Mamluks have plenty of other material on the front burner to fire up the masses with if the rantings of NATO’s Irish, British, Swedish, Dutch and French doormats are any indication.
Rob Bauer, the Dutch head of NATO’s military committee, has praised Sweden’s nominal leaders for ordering Swedes to prepare for war with Russia even before Sweden has been formally inducted into NATO. Finian Cunningham recently explored the sabre rattling of France’s Mamluks and, although German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has also made similar Russophobic threats, because there are so many Mamluks at Germany’s helm, Pistorius is not worth wasting column inches on. And nor is the bellicose homosexual couple Macron recently appointed to his genocide-admiring Cabinet.
The same goes for Leo Varadkar, the Indian homosexual who fronts the Irish junta and who informs us that “Ireland’s fight for Ukrainian freedom” is a part of the Mamluks’ wider “fight for European values”. And though Ireland’s Mamluks, like their partners in crime elsewhere, have no idea what those mercurial European values are, they are determined to muck in, spurred on, no doubt, by the hope of a big payday when European values, as epitomised by Raytheon, Monsanto and Bill Gates, finally impose their “freedom” on the remnants of Zelensky’s Reich. Ireland, which is technically bankrupt and where over 2% of the population are now draft dodging Ukrainian grifters, has promised to rebuild Ukraine’s Rivne Oblast, which borders Belarus, and which has a population of 1.5m and an area of 20,000sq km. Although that would make a massive payday for Irish multinational builders’ providers CRH, Varadkar, his lovers and their local Ukrainian fixers, I cannot see anybody else benefiting from that, or from the madcap rantings of any of NATO’s other Mamluks.
British Defence Minister, former National President of the Jewish youth organisation, serial business cheat and staunch Zionist, Grant Schapps, also joins those other non-entities in predicting a global conflict within the next five years between the West and Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, and he has demanded that we all chip in more to finance his lust for these wars on all conceivable fronts. And though Schapps, given his serial business cheating and his use of a string of aliases to effect his cons, is a fishy character, he is, to give him due credit, sticking like a limpet to NATO’s grizzly script.
Steadfast Defender
Although Schapps, like Zelensky and all of NATO’s other Mamluks, are beneath contempt, NATO’s lust for global war makes these bit players relevant. As this excellent Trotskyist article explains, NATO and its flunkeys really intend to ramp it up against Russia, with massive and massively provocative military and nuclear drills planned for all along Russia’s European border this summer. As explicitly explained by NATO’s Atlantic Council here and here, these military exercises, together with the bleatings of Schapps, Bauer and the rest of them, are fully in accord with NATO’s war plans. The bottom line, the Atlantic Council’s sociopaths emphasise, is that “the international order faces an unprecedented challenge from an authoritarian alignment of China and Russia that is seeking to undermine U.S. and global security and prosperity” and that the first order of business to secure our ill gotten supplies of Russian fish and chips is to conquer all of Russia before moving on to decimate China.
Mad stuff but Nazi Germany’s invasions of France and the Soviet Union tell us not to scoff at these lunatics. France, prior to the 1940 German invasion, had the world’s most powerful military and the lightning manner in which the Wehrmacht vanquished it is a salutary lesson about the risks of sitting on one’s laurels. As regards Barbarossa, Eisenhower and most Western military observers expected the Red Army to fully fold before Christmas 1941, and even leaving the spanner-in-the-works of the Yugoslav campaign to one side, there was never any indication of where Barbarossa’s Nazi hordes would draw the line between Moscow and Vladivostok which are over 9000 km, or roughly the distance between Berlin and San Francisco, away from each other. As there were over 40 million fatalities on the Eastern Front, we should not scoff at the mad cap plans of either Hitler or these NATO puppets, who currently carry his mantle.
Rethreaded Mamluks
History repeating itself as farce can be clearly seen in the case of these rethreaded Mamluks NATO has placed in positions of leadership in satrapies as diverse as Britain, France, Ireland, the Baltics and even the United States itself, where the incompetent and incontinent Joe Biden is their main man.
The Mamluks, recall, were slaves the Ottomans abducted and castrated as youngsters, before grooming them Epstein-style to run Egypt on their behalf. But, whereas the Mamluks were excellent warriors and administrators, their NATO emulators leave a lot to be desired in everything from their personal morality to their dearth of managerial skills. Though today’s French, British, Irish, American, Swedish and other Mamluks were as groomed from childhood as were those fabled Egyptian satraps, they lack not only the cajones the Mamluks had but their administrative and other abilities as well. If a truer comparison is needed, then the vacuous teenage K pop and J pop stars of Korea and Japan would be nearer their intellectual mark.
This is not to argue that NATO’s Mamluks are political eunuchs but that the skill sets of such D-listers as Greta Thunberg, Clown Prince Zelensky, Joe Biden and Grant Schapps lie in different domains, such as those we normally associate with pet parrots, ass-licking flunkeys and organ grinding monkeys. If, however, all these emasculated hirelings chirping from the same sheet as NATO’s media and military moguls help to frighten the masses to vote the right way in all the American and related elections due to be held in 2024, then these rethreaded Mamluks are doing their job. Simple as.
Education Maketh The Modern Mamluk
Former British Prime Minister, upper class charlatan and serial philanderer Boris Johnson typifies these modern day Mamluks. If one still regards a solid grasp of the Classics, rather than, say, a mastery of engineering or computer science as being the measure of an educated “gentleman”, then Johnson clearly fits the bill.
Johnson’s penchant for the Classics, in fact, typifies Britain’s elite, who have shied away from the STEM subjects since at least the time of the 1854 Crimean war. British universities, lest we forget, did not teach such vulgar subjects as engineering up to relatively recently, when James Stuart was appointed to Cambridge’s first chair in engineering.
The basic division of labour between Albion’s Mamluks was that one son would enter MI6’s Anglican cult, another the Armed Forces and yet another into politics or some similarly slovenly pursuit, with the lower classes taking up their very considerable slack in everything from engineering, general soldiering and chimney sweeping.
Although that basic division of labour still pertains to this day, global transformations have it under strain. Firstly, Myanmar and its allies do not need imperialist ignoramuses like Boris Johnson, Mr Fake News himself, befouling their pagodas by quoting Kipling in them. Secondly, countries like Iran far outpace them in terms of STEM graduates and they have the missile and drone arsenals to prove it. Thirdly, NATO now has a huge army of computer literate dissident heretics, the most well-known of whom is POW Julian Assange, who maintain their moral integrity, despite the dark arts the Swedish, British, Spanish, American and allied Gestapos have visited upon them. Together, those and other forces make the modern Mamluk very much an endangered species.
The Dark Arts
The real problem with Assange-like dissidents is they let the cat out of the bag, that NATO’s Mamluks, despite the education some of their Billy Bunters have in the Classics, are, at heart, a vindictive death cult no different, except in their greater reach, from the mafia or any other criminal fraternity.
Although NATO’s Mamluks might well have had their day, their race is not yet fully run. Especially in their British manifestation, they are, as Brian Berletic clinically spells out here, the masters of the dark arts and they will retain plenty of firepower there as long as they retain the mystique of aloof respectability their Crown and all the fading tinsel associated with it bestow on them.
Take, for example, this recent BBC report of an Israeli terrorist outrage in Damascus, where the BBC commands us to suspend naming the obvious suspects as “the BBC has not verified” videos circulating online about the crime. Now, compare that to this more solid Lebanese Al Mayadeen report, which relied on their local contacts and allied groups to quickly give us the honest and unvarnished truth about the crime the BBC pompously obfuscates by claiming to be fit to verify the mass of evidence pointing to the Israeli culprits the BBC routinely aligns itself with.
Whereas the Lebanese and their Syrian colleagues try to give us the truth, the BBC’s emasculated Mamluks stick religiously to the line that NATO and their sidekicks are angels of light instead of darkness and that NATO atrocities, whether in Damascus or in Gaza, must be verified by their hand picked cronies to have credence. Like so much else the BBC do, that deserves the longest of custodial sentences.
This theft of the narrative is now most starkly seen in Gaza where the New York Times cheers on the culpability of female Israeli soldiers in the barbarities Israel is inflicting on Gaza’s most vulnerable. Starving pregnant women, denying babies basic necessities such as food, diapers and water, and laying waste to every hospital in Gaza are not manifestations of feminism or girl power. They are war crimes, for which Israel’s current German ally saw hundreds of their men and women executed, just as Israel was being formed on the back of its own mountains of war crimes. And though Captain Amit Busi, who is only 23, might be the pride and joy of the Israeli Army, if she or any of the 83 soldiers she commands are guilty of any of the “unverified” war crimes we have seen perpetrated in Gaza, then she should, of course, swing.
Yemen’s Houthi Party Poopers
Houthi shenanigans in the Red Sea are causing waves that threaten to capsize the Mamluks’ narrative. The Mamluks’ original Egyptian stomping ground is taking a battering from lost Suez Canal tolls, which account for 10% of Egypt’s $100 bn annual GDP. Container freight rates are up an average of 100% and, as individual navies have now reverted to protecting their own ships and to hell with the rest, the Houthi, it seems, understand the basic concept of divide and conquer at least as much as NATO’s Mamluks do. If the Houthi sink an oil container or two, then NATO’s fake news tellers at the BBC will be considerably stretched in shoe horning the fallout from that into the Manichean narrative they are paid to spin. The long and the short of the march of the Houthi is it is one more front that is putting one more giant sized nail into the coffin of the Mamluks’ hold on power. Such a shame!

First, kill all the lawyers. So, famously said Dick the Butcher in Shakespeare’s Henry VI. And, though Dick may have had a point about that most ignoble of all professions, Dick is there to symbolise the rabble, the same unorganised rabble that strung up Casca the poet in The Bard’s Julius Caesar and that the BBC’s journalists, together with their peers in the Daily Mail, the Sun and all NATO’s other Mamluks are paid to beguile. But unorganised, fish and chips chomping rabble do not win the day. Mamluks, who conspire together, no matter how ignoble or amoral their cause or their methods, generally emerge victorious. The task, then, is not so much to kill all the lawyers but to politically, militarily and economically emasculate all the Mamluks of Israel, the United States, Britain and the European Union. A mighty task, to be sure, and maybe a foolhardy or even impossible one. But one thing is sure and it is that until all of NATO’s morally pliable Mamluks, flunkeys and general factotums mentioned above are removed from the corridors and levers of power, there will be no justice and no peace, and probably not even a simple cod or haddock with chips and vinegar worth having either. Gaza today, destruction elsewhere and probably everywhere tomorrow if NATO’s Mamluks continue to enforce NATO’s way.
Israël évoque la possibilité d’une guerre avec le Hezbollah dans les prochains mois. Cela ressort des déclarations faites par Halevy, mercredi soir, lors de son inspection des forces israéliennes près de la frontière avec le Liban, selon la radio militaire israélienne.
Halevy a déclaré: « Je ne sais pas quand la guerre commencera dans le nord. Je peux dire que la probabilité qu’elle se produise dans les mois à venir est beaucoup plus élevée que par le passé ». De plus, il a ajouté:
Lorsque nous devrons (faire la guerre), nous avancerons de toutes nos forces.
Dans un contexte connexe, le ministre extrémiste de la Sécurité nationale, Itamar Ben Gvir, a déclaré: « Il n’y a pas d’échappatoire au déclenchement d’une véritable guerre, car il est clair que tout l’armement du Hezbollah est uniquement destiné à préparer une attaque contre Israël ». Ben Gvir a ajouté dans une interview accordée à Channel 7 mercredi soir.
Au Liban, il est nécessaire de mener une attaque préventive contre le Hezbollah, et aucun règlement politique n’aidera.
Il a poursuivi: « La guerre dans le Nord pourrait être la plus douloureuse, mais nous ne devons pas laisser cette tâche à la prochaine génération de nos enfants. Nous ne devons pas dire que nous reporterons (la guerre) pour que cela ne se produise pas dans notre pays. Un report de la guerre coûtera du sang ».
Il n’y a eu aucun commentaire immédiat du Hezbollah concernant les déclarations israéliennes jusqu’à (19h36 GMT).
« En solidarité avec la bande de Gaza », le Hezbollah et les factions palestiniennes au Liban ont échangé des bombardements quotidiens intermittents avec Israël depuis le 8 octobre 2023, entraînant des dizaines de morts et de blessés des deux côtés de la frontière, notamment des civils et des journalistes.
Depuis le 7 octobre 2023, l’armée israélienne mène une guerre dévastatrice contre Gaza qui a fait jusqu’à mercredi « 24 448 morts et 61 504 blessés » et a provoqué le déplacement de plus de 85 % (environ 1,9 million de personnes) des habitants de la bande de Gaza, selon les autorités palestiniennes et les Nations Unies.
Le «Grand Reset» a placé le fondateur du WEF au centre de l’intérêt médiatique. Où il est question d’industrie de guerre en Allemagne, de programmes nucléaires et de contrôle de la population.
Les médias autorisés le dépeignent en philanthrope au service du progrès de l’humanité, tandis que les réseaux sociaux le caricaturent comme le génie du mal sorti tout droit des meilleurs James Bond. Depuis l’annonce de la nécessité d’opérer un «Grand Reset» vers la 4ème révolution industrielle, comme unique porte de sortie de la pandémie, le président du Forum économique mondial (ou WEF) est au centre de l’attention. Sa promotion constante d’une gouvernance globale technocratique et transhumaniste, ses phrases chocs telles que «vous ne posséderez rien et vous serez heureux», «la nouvelle révolution technologique ne changera pas le monde, c’est vous qu’elle changera de l’intérieur» ou encore l’annonce prochaine de la «fusion entre l’identité physique, biologique, numérique» des humains par l’insertion de micro-puces, n’ont pas laissé indifférent, pour ne pas dire qu’elles ont déchaîné de vives réactions. Si bien que de nombreux internautes s’intéressent désormais au passé de l’industriel allemand et de sa famille.
Biographies laconiques
En février 2021, dans un article intitulé «Schwab Family values», le journaliste Johnny Vedmore s’est penché sur le passé de la famille Schwab dans l’Allemagne nazie. Cette publication a déchaîné le web et a donné lieu à de multiples commentaires et fact-checkings, et cela dans plusieurs langues.
Que sait-on vraiment de Klaus Schwab ? Les sources officielles sont étonnamment pauvres. À part sa date de naissance, la page du Forum économique mondial ne mentionne rien avant l’obtention de ses premiers diplômes en 1957. La page française de Wikipedia note :
«Les parents de Schwab s’installent en Suisse au début des années 1930. Avec la nomination d’Adolf Hitler comme chancelier du Reich, le père de Schwab est invité à défendre les intérêts de l’industrie suisse en Allemagne. La famille déménage à Ravensburg peu avant le début de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et Klaus Schwab naît le 30 mars 1938 à Ravensburg».
Elle précise aussi que la famille était «surveillée par la Gestapo» (selon les dires de Schwab), une mention qui fait penser à une prise de distance face au régime nazi.
Mais la version anglaise de la même page amène un autre son de cloche, par une précision importante : «son père a assumé le rôle de directeur chez Escher-Wyss AG, une industrie qui travaillait pour le régime nazi». Quant à la version allemande de Wikipedia, elle fait l’impasse sur la Gestapo et ajoute que la famille bénéficiait d’un régime de faveur pendant la guerre.
Travailleurs forcés
Un post accusant Eugen Schwab d’avoir été un proche d’Hitler a beaucoup circulé sur le web et alimenté les rubriques des fact-checkers. À gauche, on reconnait Klaus Schwab, à droite «son père Eugen Schwab, industriel et fasciste, proche de Hitler». Le message dit aussi que «son père dirigeait la compagnie Escher-Wyss et avait son propre camp de concentration où les prisonniers devaient travailler pour rien».
Le débunkage de ce fake par l’Agence France Presse est assez intéressant. Il détaille longuement le montage photo pour montrer qu’il ne s’agit pas d’Eugen Schwab, mais d’un ancien militaire nommé Walter Dybilasz, dont on explique le parcours. Tout à la fin de l’article, l’AFP confirme de manière très sommaire le travail forcé dans la fameuse usine de Ravensburg en citant trois sources :
Silke Schoettle, responsable des archives municipales de Ravensburg, qui déclare que :
«Escher-Wyss, comme d’autres entreprises, a eu recours à des travailleurs forcés et étrangers provenant d’un camp nazi».
Peter Faessler, un historien allemand, pour qui : «les documents de la dénazification ne permettent pas de connaître les opinions politiques de Eugen Schwab».
Mais qui confirme également que le recours au travail forcé chez Escher-Wyss était certain.
Neils Weise, un historien de Munich, lequel estime que :
«Même si Escher-Wyss a apparemment participé à l’utilisation inhumaine du travail forcé dans l’économie de guerre nazie, cela ne peut certainement pas être attribué à une relation spéciale entre le directeur commercial et Hitler… Eugen Schwab n’avait pas son propre camp de concentration».
Tout cela n’est pas «rien» et mérite certainement un complément d’enquête.
Comme le relève Johnny Vedmore, Eugen Schwab employait effectivement des travailleurs forcés dans son entreprise. En août 2020, un rapport sur le travail forcé et les crimes de guerre ayant eu lieu dans les usines suisses en Allemagne a été adressé à l’ATS, l’agence nationale de la presse suisse. Il en ressort que la majorité de ces entreprises a utilisé des prisonniers de guerre, et que c’est aussi le cas d’Escher-Wyss, dans ses deux implantations de Ravensburg et Lindau. À Ravensburg, l‘archiviste de la ville, Andrea Schmuder, a noté que l’usine avait employé entre 198 et 203 travailleurs civils et prisonniers de guerre. Quant au «petit camp dans l’usine pour les travailleurs prisonniers», il est mentionné par Karl Schweizer, un historien local de Lindau, où la firme avait une seconde implantation.
Escher-Wyss, des armes de guerre au nucléaire
Toujours selon cet article, durant la guerre, Escher-Wyss a des contrats avec la Wehrmacht pour produire différentes pièces et machines utiles à l’effort de guerre. Elle fabrique par exemple des pièces pour les avions de chasse allemands. Mais l’usine est surtout leader dans la technologie des grandes turbines. Celles-ci servent aux barrages hydroélectriques et centrales électriques. Escher-Wyss est chargée de la conception d’une turbine de 14 500 CV pour une usine hydroélectrique d’importance stratégique Norsk Hydro à Vemork en Norvège. Cette usine était la seule entreprise sous contrôle nazi capable de produire de l’eau lourde, un ingrédient essentiel à la fabrication du plutonium pour le programme de la bombe atomique. Les Allemands avaient investi d’énormes ressources dans la production d’eau lourde (aussi appelée deutérium), car ils savaient que l’arme nucléaire pourrait être un élément décisif dans l’issue de la guerre. Leur programme échoua pour diverses raisons, notamment une série d’attaques et de sabotages. En 1942 et 1943, Norsk Hydro fut la cible de raids aériens et plus de 400 bombes furent larguées sur les installations. Par la suite en 1944, des navires allemands tentèrent de ramener de l’eau lourde en Allemagne, mais la résistance norvégienne réussit à les couler.

Une information dont on parle moins sur les réseaux est le fait qu’après la guerre, et même après l’arrivée de Klaus Schwab à la direction de la firme, Sulzer Escher-Wyss a été impliquée dans la fabrication et l’installation de la technologie nucléaire, y compris dans le domaine des armes. En 1967, l’Afrique du Sud avait construit le SAFARI-2, un réacteur modéré à l’eau lourde (la même technologie qu’à l’époque nazie) dans le cadre d’un projet de production de plutonium à Pélindaba. Les Suisses et les Sud-Africains ont entretenu des relations étroites durant cette période de l’histoire, où il n’était guère facile pour le régime brutal de l’apartheid de trouver des alliés proches. Ces informations proviennent d’un rapport sur «les relations entre la Suisse et l’Afrique du Sud 1948-1994 – Rapport final du PFN 42+» mandaté par le Conseil fédéral suisse et dirigé par l’historien Georg Kreis, professeur émérite à l’université de Bâle. Dans le volet consacré à l’exploration des relations militaires entre les deux pays, l’historien Peter Hug a rapporté comment Sulzer AG a livré des composants essentiels à l’enrichissement de l’uranium sud-africain servant à la fabrication des six bombes atomiques produites par l’Afrique du Sud. Il affirme également que :
En 1977, la société Gebrüder Sulzer AG a clairement indiqué qu’elle fournirait une technologie hautement sensible au programme sud-africain d’enrichissement de l’uranium et a «expressément» rejeté «tout jugement politique». Comme il s’agissait d’un «marché de trois chiffres en millions de francs», Sulzer aurait été prête à «aller jusqu’au bout de ses possibilités juridiques».
À cette époque, le Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies avait adopté la résolution 418 qui imposait un embargo obligatoire sur les armes à destination de l’Afrique du Sud, embargo qui ne serait pas entièrement levé avant 1994.
À la lecture du rapport Peter Hug, le président de la commission d’enquête Georg Kreis a pointé le fait que ces agissements avaient probablement bénéficié d’un certain laisser-faire de la part des autorités :
«Le fait que les autorités aient adopté une attitude de laisser-faire même après mai 1978 apparaît dans un échange de lettres entre le Mouvement Anti-Apartheid et la DFMA en octobre/décembre 1978. Comme l’explique l’étude de Hug, le Mouvement anti-apartheid de Suisse s’est appuyé sur des rapports allemands selon lesquels Sulzer Escher-Wyss et une société appelée BBC avaient fourni des pièces pour l’usine d’enrichissement d’uranium sud-africaine, et sur des crédits répétés à ESCOM, qui comprenaient également des contributions considérables de banques suisses. Ces affirmations ont conduit à se demander si le Conseil fédéral, compte tenu de son soutien fondamental à l’embargo de l’ONU, ne devrait pas inciter la Banque nationale à ne plus autoriser de crédits pour ESCOM».
L’ascension d’un technocrate
Au sortir de leur scolarité à Ravensburg, Klaus Schwab et son jeune frère Urs ont tous deux dû suivre les traces de leur grand-père, Gottfried, et de leur père, Eugen, en commençant une formation d’ingénieur en mécanique. Klaus entame un parcours d’études impressionnant où il obtient de nombreux diplômes, tout en se formant également dans l’industrie. De 1957 à 1967, il décroche un doctorat en ingénierie à l’École polytechnique fédérale de Zurich, un doctorat en économie à l’université de Fribourg et une maîtrise en administration publique de la John F. Kennedy School à Harvard, aux États-Unis.
À Harvard, il suit les cours de Henry Kissinger, qui deviendra son mentor et dont il dira plus tard qu’il fait partie des trois ou quatre personnalités qui ont le plus influencé sa pensée.

En 1969, la firme suisse Sulzer achète 53% des parts de la société Escher-Wyss qui devient officiellement Sulzer AG. La même année, au retour de Harvard, Klaus Schwab fait son entrée officielle dans le monde des affaires en prenant la tête de la nouvelle société. Il contribue à en faire une entreprise qui ne se réduit pas à être un géant de la construction de machines, mais qui investit dans des nouvelles technologies, notamment dans le domaine médical.
Schwab introduit aussi un nouveau style de management pour inciter «tous les employés à accepter les impératifs de la motivation et d’assurer chez eux un sens de la flexibilité et de la manœuvrabilité» et s’empresse de le diffuser dans le milieu de l’industrie. Avec l’aide de la presse suisse, il organise une «Journée de presse sur l’industrie mécanique», pour présenter les nouveaux modèles de gestion d’entreprise. Au cours de cet événement, il déclare que les entreprises qui fonctionnent sur des modèles autoritaires sont incapables d’activer pleinement leur «capital humain». Cette notion de capital humain sera centrale à l’approche du «capitalisme des parties prenantes» (ou stakeholder capitalism), une notion selon laquelle la finalité de l’entreprise dépasse le seul bénéfice de ses actionnaires, mais doit se concevoir avec l’ensemble des acteurs du contrat social. Schwab en tire un ouvrage qui sera le fondement de la philosophie du Forum de Davos et de sa 4ème révolution industrielle.
La fondation du Forum économique mondial
En 1970, le jeune Klaus Schwab écrit à la Commission européenne pour lui demander de l’aider à créer un «groupe de réflexion non commercial pour les chefs d’entreprise européens». La Commission européenne sponsorise l’événement et envoie le français Raymond Barre comme «mentor intellectuel» du forum. Raymond Barre, qui était à l’époque commissaire européen aux affaires économiques et financières, devient par la suite Premier ministre français (note : Barre fut accusé de tenir des propos antisémites pendant son mandat).
En 1971, la première réunion du Forum économique mondial – alors appelée «European Management Symposium» – a donc lieu à Davos, en Suisse. 444 participants de 31 pays prennent part à ce premier symposium européen sur le management, principalement des dirigeants d’entreprises européennes, des politiciens et des universitaires américains. Otto von Habsburg, fils ainé de Karl Wilhelm, dernier empereur d’Autriche et roi de Hongrie, héritier en titre du quatrième Reich, y prononce le discours d’ouverture.
Bien qu’il ait toujours été présenté comme une initiative spontanée de Schwab, ce premier symposium européen n’était peut-être un projet si spontané ni original qu’on ne l’affirme. Il semble que l’influence d’Henry Kissinger et de John Kenneth Galbraith, les principaux économistes et conseillers du gouvernement américain de l’époque, y ait été pour beaucoup.
Dès les années 50, le séminaire international dirigé par Henry Kissinger servait de source de renseignement et d’influence à la politique étrangère des Américains à travers une collaboration et des financements de la CIA et du FBI. Au cours de la période qui a suivi la Seconde Guerre mondiale, les États-Unis ont créé de manière proactive de nombreux programmes de ce type dans le but de former de jeunes dirigeants étrangers potentiels et de les installer à des postes de pouvoir, au sortir de diverses révolutions, souvent provoquées par leurs services. La raison principale de la création de ces programmes était ostensiblement de combattre et d’empêcher l’infiltration communiste dans les États étrangers, tout en s’assurant que les futurs dirigeants mondiaux seraient favorables aux intérêts américains. L’autre raison était une capture des ressources étrangères, pétrole et autres minerais devant assurer la subsistance et la prospérité des États-Unis.

Technocratie et vision malthusienne
En parallèle au séminaire de Kissinger, l’autre forum influent qui a suscité la création du symposium de Klaus Schwab est le Club de Rome. Il s’agit d’un groupe de réflexion de l’élite financière et intellectuelle qui reflète le Forum économique mondial à bien des égards, notamment dans sa promotion d’un modèle de gouvernance mondiale dirigé par une élite technocratique. Le Club avait été fondé en 1968 par l’industriel italien Aurelio Peccei et le chimiste écossais Alexander King, lors d’une réunion privée dans une résidence appartenant à la famille Rockefeller à Bellagio, en Italie.
«The Limits to Growth» (Les limites de la croissance), un livre publié en 1972, en résumait la philosophie. Il traitait essentiellement de la notion de surpopulation mondiale et avertissait que «si les modes de consommation et la croissance démographique du monde se poursuivaient au même rythme, la terre atteindrait ses limites d’ici un siècle». Ce fut le sujet principal de la troisième réunion du Forum économique mondial en 1973, au cours de laquelle Peccei y défendit ses arguments. La même année, le Club de Rome publia aussi un rapport proposant un modèle «adaptatif» de gouvernance mondiale qui diviserait le monde en dix régions économiques/politiques interconnectées.
Le Club de Rome a longtemps été controversé pour son obsession à vouloir réduire la population mondiale, que les critiques estiment influencées par l’eugénisme et le néo-malthusianisme. Dans un autre ouvrage du Club de Rome, The First Global Revolution, publié en 1991, il déclara que de telles politiques pourraient obtenir un soutien populaire si les masses étaient capables de les associer à une lutte existentielle contre un ennemi commun.
La première révolution mondiale contient un passage éclairant à ce propos, intitulé «L’ennemi commun de l’humanité est l’Homme» :
«En cherchant un ennemi commun contre lequel nous pourrions nous unir, nous avons eu l’idée que la pollution, la menace du réchauffement climatique, les pénuries d’eau, la famine et d’autres phénomènes de ce genre, feraient l’affaire. Dans leur ensemble et leurs interactions, ces phénomènes constituent effectivement une menace commune qui doit être affrontée tous ensemble. Mais en désignant ces dangers comme l’ennemi, nous tombons dans le piège, dont nous avons déjà averti nos lecteurs, à savoir confondre les symptômes avec les causes. Tous ces dangers sont dus à l’intervention de l’homme dans les processus naturels, et ce n’est qu’en changeant d’attitude et de comportement qu’on peut les surmonter. Le véritable ennemi est donc l’humanité elle-même».
Dans les années qui ont suivi, l’élite commune à ces forums a fréquemment soutenu que les méthodes de contrôle de la population sont également essentielles pour protéger l’environnement (on pense aux discours d’Al Gore ou de Bill Gates innovating to zero). Il n’est donc pas surprenant que le Forum économique mondial utilise aujourd’hui de la même manière les questions du climat et de l’environnement pour faire valoir la nécessité de politiques autrement impopulaires, comme celles du Grand Reset.
Cette vision malthusienne était aussi largement partagée par Henry Kissinger, le mentor de Schwab. En 1974, en tant que conseiller à la sécurité nationale du président Nixon, il supervise la rédaction d’un mémo surnommé «le Kissinger report», qui a fait du contrôle de la population une arme de «guerre froide». L’argument majeur qu’il développe est que la sécurité nationale des États-Unis dépend du contrôle démographique des populations et que cela nécessite la promotion de l’avortement, de la stérilisation et de la contraception dans le monde entier.
Fruit d’une collaboration entre la NSA, la CIA, le département d’État et le Pentagone, Le National Security Study Memorandum 200 (NSSM 200) ou «Rapport Kissinger» a été gardé secret jusqu’en 1989. La croissance rapide de la population mondiale y est présentée comme une menace pour la sécurité des États-Unis, car elle entraînerait une concurrence pour les matières premières nécessaires à l’économie américaine et offrirait à l’Union soviétique et à la Chine la possibilité de promouvoir des révolutions communistes et de recruter des États-clients.
C’est ainsi que le contrôle de la population a été pris en compte comme une «arme de guerre froide». Le résultat immédiat a été une augmentation considérable des dépenses consacrées au contrôle de la population par les États-Unis et leurs alliés, notamment via des programmes d’aide au développement et aux politiques de la santé globale menées avec USAID et l’Organisation mondiale de la santé. Des dizaines de pays dans le monde ont été identifiés comme cibles, en particulier ceux qui étaient considérés comme vulnérables aux insurrections communistes, tels que la Thaïlande et les Philippines, et ceux qui étaient riches en métaux précieux, comme les pays du sud de l’Afrique.
Un continuum idéologique ?

Sortie en 2023, la série «Plus jamais ça, c’est maintenant et mondial» réalisée par Vera Sharav, une ancienne rescapée des camps nazis, montre comment les mesures qui ont été mises en place lors de la montée du nazisme en 1933 sont étonnamment proches des «mesures de lutte» et de sortie de crise mises en place durant et après la pandémie. Ces descendants de la Shoah ont rappelé que les discriminations et le contrôle sans cesse renforcés ont tout d’abord été pris par «peur des maladies», sous prétexte d’hygiène et que l’un des grands leitmotiv de la propagande hitlérienne était aussi le «lebensraum», la nécessité pour les Allemands de mener une politique expansionniste basée sur le besoin de ressources et de la supériorité du peuple allemand à les gérer. Cette vision malthusienne, certes poussée à l’extrême par les nazis, a de nombreux points communs avec les politiques qui ont été prônées par le Club de Rome et l’Amérique de Kissinger.
C’est dans ce contexte que l’on peut situer les appels croissants des participants au Forum de Davos à la constitution d’une gouvernance mondiale, cette fois non pas sous le joug d’une nation, mais sous le contrôle des grands acteurs du «stakeholder capitalism», grands fonds d’investissement, grandes corporations et organisations internationales. Klaus Schwab se vante d’avoir infiltré les cabinets politiques de nombreux pays et la plupart des dirigeants actuels sont «formés» à son école de Young Global leaders.

Es ist bald zwei Jahre her, dass der Westen einen erheblichen Teil der internationalen Reserven der Russischen Föderation „eingefroren“ hat. Russlands spezielle Militäroperation (SVO) in der Ukraine begann am 24. Politiker und Beamte, die es auf diese Vermögenswerte abgesehen haben, versuchen, die Gesetze so zu ändern, dass die Beschlagnahmung nicht wie Diebstahl aussieht. Zunächst versprachen sie, dass eine solche Überarbeitung mehrere Monate dauern würde. Nun stellt sich heraus, dass es Jahre und Jahre dauert. While the original plan sidestepped Gaza for obvious reasons, a new post-annexation canal would be straighter, cheaper, bigger and more expeditious for Israel and the global shipping industry.
While these speculations are not without merit, they are also riddled with flaws. It would take years, possibly more than a decade, to build a canal through the Negev Desert. The project will attract all kinds of international sanctions and regional terror attacks. The success of the Israeli canal would also be contingent on a peaceful Bab el Mandeb, the other maritime bottleneck in the Red Sea.
In the meantime, China may recover from its current economic slump to complete its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), thereby diminishing the centricity of a new Red Sea canal. With Eastern Ukraine and the Sea of Azov likely to be incorporated into Russia in the near-future, new kingmakers will appear on the geopolitical chessboard.
Red Sea Stakes
At the time of writing, Tel Aviv’s military campaign in Gaza has caused between 24,000 and 30,000 Palestinian deaths while the Israeli army death toll number in the hundreds. In a region brimming with ethnoreligious faultlines, new flashpoints were bound to emerge, ostensibly in support of the beleaguered Gazans.
Houthi rebels from eastern Yemen, which faces the Red Sea, were the first to create a new frontline by launching missiles, drones and fast attack boats against cargo vessels linked to the West and its allies.
Russian and Chinese vessels were eventually assured of safe passage. Some ships have resorted to broadcasting their neutrality via the Automatic Identification System (AIS) used in the maritime industry.
Houthi attacks are particularly focused on the Bab el Mandeb strait which is only 29 kms wide, presenting an ideal killzone for shipping vessels. To counter this threat, a number US-allied nations have dispatched naval vessels off the coast of Yemen.
The combined forces of the United States and United Kingdom went a step further by launching decapitation airstrikes against Houthi-controlled hotspots from Jan 11 onwards. It was pointless. The Houthis do not have a centralised political and military hierarchy. These airstrikes may also embolden them to justify further attacks against ships from the Western orbit. Despatching US marines to rugged Houthi-controlled terrains would likely be as futile as the two decades-long military intervention in Afghanistan.
The maritime stakes are undeniably high in the Red Sea, with 50-odd ships ferrying cargo worth $3-9 billion each day ($1 trillion each year). According to FT.com, up to “15% of global sea trade, including 8% of grain, 12% of seaborne oil and 8% of seaborne liquid natural gas” transit the narrow seaway each year.
Disruption along the waterway, including accidental ones, can be costly. When a large container ship ran aground in 2021, the combined cost to global trade was $9.6 billion per day for nearly a week. Just imagine what would happen if a large US or UK destroyer was sunk in the Red Sea? Various types of unexploded munitions on the seabed may render the entire passage off limits for a considerable period of time.
With the Houthi menace slashing Red Sea traffic by 44%, the economies of Ethiopia, Eritrea and Sudan, which straddle the Western side of sealane, will be hit particularly hard. Egypt will lose a chunk of the $9 billion in annual transit fees through the Suez Canal. If the current crisis persist, desperate elements from these nations may either emulate or join forces with Somali pirates to extract whatever they can from ships plying the Red Sea.
The regional bête noire, Israel, has not escaped unscathed from this imbroglio. Its Red Sea port of Eilat is reeling from a steep 85% drop in activity. This may dent Israel’s long-term ambitions of becoming a global LNG hub.
Bypass Solution
The Cape of Good Hope offers an excellent bypass solution for global shipping. In fact, many recent commentaries seemed ignorant of the eighth-year closure of the Suez Canal from 1967–1975 due to protracted Arab-Israeli conflicts. Ironically, the closure had halted shipments of oil from Iran to Israel. They were allies back then!
While the stakes are high, the fate of global trade does not hinge on the Red Sea. Not at the moment anyway. The southern African route nonetheless involves longer transits costing billions in extra dollars. Predicaments like these may eventually normalise buffer inventorying in place of the precarious Just-in-Time (JIT) system. Shipping insurance may go up, albeit without premiums associated with geopolitical and terror risks in the Red Sea. Smaller shipping companies, with smaller profit margins and cash reserves, may fold up. This is in sync with a familiar trend which accelerated after the defining event of Sept 11, 2001. Every manufactured global crisis, including the ongoing coronapsychosis and climate change mania, has served to funnel wealth into the hands of the transnational capitalist class (TCC).
The detour around Africa will add seven to 20 days in transit, involving an additional 3,000-3,500 nautical miles (6,000km). Freight rates for a standard container transported from China to Northern Europe has consequently risen from $1,500 in November to more than $4,000 at the time of writing. Freight rates from India stands at a median $3,000. The cumulative costs for national trade may be much higher as merchant vessels are now accompanied by an array of naval escorts. Severe drought in the Panama Canal has also reduced transit slots for vessels. These developments will collectively aggravate inflationary trends worldwide.
The ultimate winner in this quagmire would be Russia. Its Northern Sea Route will shorten Asia-Europe maritime transit by as much as 40%. However, relentless Western sanctions may prompt Moscow to restrict passage to ships from “friendly nations”. The primary beneficiaries will be China and India.
Crystalline Sea, Murky Waters
The Red Sea was named after a red algae that is endemic to its waters. With no rivers disgorging freshwater into the passageway, the Red Sea is salty, pristine and rich in marine life — making it a prized destination for scuba divers worldwide. The Israelis once took advantage of this tourist appeal by executing Operation Moses and Operation Joshua in 1984-1985. An abandoned Red Sea resort was transformed into a scuba diving hive by day and a Trojan Horse for the expatriation of Ethiopian Jewish refugees from Sudan by night.
While the Red Sea waters are crystalline, the wider geopolitical undercurrents are outright murky. This brings us back to Hamas, the main protagonist in the current drama. Just who does Hamas serve?
It is an open secret that Hamas was created in 1987 by Israeli secret services in an attempt to deter the establishment of a future Palestinian state. This long-term strategy was reiterated by various Israeli officials over the years. “Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed his Likud party’s Knesset members in March 2019.
Netanyahu’s admission was made in 2019, after Hamas had launched tens of thousands of missiles towards Israel over two decades. Yet, we are repeatedly told that Hamas is a proxy of Iran. The lamestream media has failed to reconcile this apparent contradiction.
As far as Israel is concerned, regular Hamas attacks provide a “moral justification” for the usurpation of Palestinian lands. Iran portrays these appropriations as yet another symptom of the Sunni Islamic world’s collective impotence. Maybe, a day will come when the Middle East is carved up between Tel Aviv and Tehran?
For the time being, maritime disruptions in the Red Sea should pose no long-term threats to global trade. Yet, there remains one particular geographic anomaly that has the potential to rattle global trade and finance overnight. There is hardly any mention of it in the open source realm. As a tsunami of crocodile tears engulfs Western politicians, history is suppressed. More than a generation ago, Afghanistan won its freedom, which the United States, Britain and their “allies” destroyed.
In 1978, a liberation movement led by the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) overthrew the dictatorship of Mohammad Dawd, the cousin of King Zahir Shar. It was an immensely popular revolution that took the British and Americans by surprise.
Foreign journalists in Kabul, reported the New York Times, were surprised to find that “nearly every Afghan they interviewed said [they were] delighted with the coup”. The Wall Street Journal reported that “150,000 persons … marched to honour the new flag …the participants appeared genuinely enthusiastic.”
The Washington Post reported that “Afghan loyalty to the government can scarcely be questioned”. Secular, modernist and, to a considerable degree, socialist, the government declared a programme of visionary reforms that included equal rights for women and minorities. Political prisoners were freed and police files publicly burned.
Under the monarchy, life expectancy was thirty-five; one in three children died in infancy. Ninety per cent of the population was illiterate. The new government introduced free medical care. A mass literacy campaign was launched.
For women, the gains had no precedent; by the late 1980s, half the university students were women, and women made up 40 per cent of Afghanistan’s doctors, 70 per cent of its teachers and 30 per cent of its civil servants.
So radical were the changes that they remain vivid in the memories of those who benefited. Saira Noorani, a female surgeon who fled Afghanistan in 2001, recalled:
“Every girl could go to high school and university. We could go where we wanted and wear what we liked … We used to go to cafes and the cinema to see the latest Indian films on a Friday … it all started to go wrong when the mujahedin started winning … these were the people the West supported.”
For the United States, the problem with the PDPA government was that it was supported by the Soviet Union. Yet it was never the “puppet” derided in the West, neither was the coup against the monarchy “Soviet backed”, as the American and British press claimed at the time.
President Jimmy Carter’s Secretary of State, Cyrus Vance, later wrote in his memoirs: “We had no evidence of any Soviet complicity in the coup.”
In the same administration was Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter’s National Security Adviser, a Polish émigré and fanatical anti-communist and moral extremist whose enduring influence on American presidents expired only with his death in 2017.
On 3 July 1979, unknown to the American people and Congress, Carter authorised a $500 million “covert action” programme to overthrow Afghanistan’s first secular, progressive government. This was code-named by the CIA Operation Cyclone.
The $500 million bought, bribed and armed a group of tribal and religious zealots known as the mujahedin. In his semi-official history,Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward wrote that the CIA spent $70 million on bribes alone. He describes a meeting between a CIA agent known as “Gary” and a warlord called Amniat-Melli:
“Gary placed a bundle of cash on the table: $500,000 in one-foot stacks of $100 bills. He believed it would be more impressive than the usual $200,000, the best way to say we’re here, we’re serious, here’s money, we know you need it … Gary would soon ask CIA headquarters for and receive $10 million in cash.”
Recruited from all over the Muslim world, America’s secret army was trained in camps in Pakistan run by Pakistani intelligence, the CIA and Britain’s MI6. Others were recruited at an Islamic College in Brooklyn, New York – within sight of the doomed Twin Towers. One of the recruits was a Saudi engineer called Osama bin Laden.
The aim was to spread Islamic fundamentalism in Central Asia and destabilise and eventually destroy the Soviet Union.
In August, 1979, the US Embassy in Kabul reported that “the United States’ larger interests … would be served by the demise of the PDPA government, despite whatever setbacks this might mean for future social and economic reforms in Afghanistan.”
Read again the words above I have italicised. It is not often that such cynical intent is spelt out as clearly. The US was saying that a genuinely progressive Afghan government and the rights of Afghan women could go to hell.
Six months later, the Soviets made their fatal move into Afghanistan in response to the American-created jihadist threat on their doorstep. Armed with CIA-supplied Stinger missiles and celebrated as “freedom fighters” by Margaret Thatcher, the mujahedin eventually drove the Red Army out of Afghanistan.
Calling themselves the Northern Alliance, the mujahedin were dominated by war lords who controlled the heroin trade and terrorised rural women. The Taliban were an ultra-puritanical faction, whose mullahs wore black and punished banditry, rape and murder but banished women from public life.
In the 1980s, I made contact with the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, known as RAWA, which had tried to alert the world to the suffering of Afghan women. During the Taliban time they concealed cameras beneath their burqas to film evidence of atrocities, and did the same to expose the brutality of the Western-backed mujahedin. “Marina” of RAWA told me, “We took the videotape to all the main media groups, but they didn’t want to know ….”
In 1996, the enlightened PDPA government was overrun. The President, Mohammad Najibullah, had gone to the United Nations to appeal to for help. On his return, he was hanged from a street light.
“I confess that [countries] are pieces on a chessboard,” said Lord Curzon in 1898, “upon which is being played out a great game for the domination of the world.”

The Viceroy of India was referring in particular to Afghanistan. A century later, Prime Minister Tony Blair used slightly different words.
“This is a moment to seize,” he said following 9/11. “The Kaleidoscope has been shaken. The pieces are in flux. Soon they will settle again. Before they do, let us re-order this world around us.”
On Afghanistan, he added this:
“We will not walk away [but ensure] some way out of the poverty that is your miserable existence.”
Blair echoed his mentor, President George W. Bush, who spoke to the victims of his bombs from the Oval Office:
“The oppressed people of Afghanistan will know the generosity of America. As we strike military targets, we will also drop food, medicine and supplies to the starving and suffering … “
Almost every word was false. Their declarations of concern were cruel illusions for an imperial savagery “we” in the West rarely recognise as such.
In 2001, Afghanistan was stricken and depended on emergency relief convoys from Pakistan. As the journalist Jonathan Steele reported, the invasion indirectly caused the deaths of some 20,000 people as supplies to drought victims stopped and people fled their homes.
Eighteen months later, I found unexploded American cluster bombs in the rubble of Kabul which were often mistaken for yellow relief packages dropped from the air. They blew the limbs off foraging, hungry children.
In the village of Bibi Maru, I watched a woman called Orifa kneel at the graves of her husband, Gul Ahmed, a carpet weaver, and seven other members of her family, including six children, and two children who were killed next door.
An American F-16 aircraft had come out of a clear blue sky and dropped a Mk82 500-pound bomb on Orifa’s mud, stone and straw house. Orifa was away at the time. When she returned, she gathered the body parts.
Months later, a group of Americans came from Kabul and gave her an envelope with fifteen notes: a total of 15 dollars. “Two dollars for each of my family killed,” she said.
The invasion of Afghanistan was a fraud. In the wake of 9/11, the Taliban sought to distance themselves from Osama bin Laden. They were, in many respects, an American client with which the administration of Bill Clinton had done a series of secret deals to allow the building of a $3 billion natural gas pipeline by a US oil company consortium.
In high secrecy, Taliban leaders had been invited to the US and entertained by the CEO of the Unocal company in his Texas mansion and by the CIA at its headquarters in Virginia. One of the deal-makers was Dick Cheney, later George W. Bush’s Vice-President.
In 2010, I was in Washington and arranged to interview the mastermind of Afghanistan’s modern era of suffering, Zbigniew Brzezinski. I quoted to him his autobiography in which he admitted that his grand scheme for drawing the Soviets into Afghanistan had created “a few stirred up Muslims”.
“Do you have any regrets?” I asked.
“Regrets! Regrets! What regrets?”
When we watch the current scenes of panic at Kabul airport, and listen to journalists and generals in distant TV studios bewailing the withdrawal of “our protection”, isn’t it time to heed the truth of the past so that all this suffering never happens again?
