Das Ernst-Thälmann-Denkmal in Berlin

„Ernst Thälmann war ein sozialistischer Kämpfer und Agitator mit hohen politischen und menschlichen Qualitäten. Gerade das macht auch seinen schnellen Aufstieg zum Vorsitzenden der Kommunistischen Partei Deutschlands und zum populären Führer des werktätigen Volkes verständlich. Sein hartnäckiger und unversöhnlicher Kampf galt den Ausbeutern und Unterdrückern der arbeitenden Menschheit, galt der junkerlichen und großkapitalistischen Reaktion und ihren Agenten in den Reihen der Arbeiterklasse. Immer wieder zeigte er in Reden und Artikeln den ursächlichen Zusammenhang zwischen der Agitation Hitlers und den Profitinteressen der deutschen Monopolkapitalisten auf. Die Entlarvung der Hitlerpolitik als die Vorbereitung des Krieges machte er zur wichtigsten Aufgabe der revolutionären Sozialisten.“ (Wilhelm Pieck – August 1948)

Ernst Thälmann war Kommunist. Er war der Führer der deutschen Arbeiterklasse im Kampf gegen den Hitlerfaschismus. Aus diesem Grunde wurde ihm zu Ehren am 15. April 1986 in der Hauptstadt der DDR, Berlin, im Stadtteil Prenzlauer Berg, das von dem sowjetischen Bildhauer Lew Kerbel geschaffene Ernst-Thälmann-Denkmal enthüllt. Mit einer Reihe von Veranstaltungen gedachten auch in unserer heutigen Zeit die deutschen Kommunisten wieder des Führers der Kommunistischen Partei Deutschlands, Ernst Thälmann, der am 18. August 1944 im KZ Buchenwald auf Befehl Hitlers erschossen wurde. Doch dann geisterte wenig später eine Meldung durch die BRD-Medien, die man nicht anders als eine Geschichtsvergessenheit betrachten kann. Wieder einmal macht sich der faschistische Ungeist in der BRD bemerkbar…

Die offizielle Vertreterin des russischen Außenministeriums Maria Sachárowa schreibt dazu folgendes:

Ernst Thälmann war ein deutscher Antifaschist, der systematisch gegen den sogenannten „Nationalsozialismus“ (d.h. gegen den Faschismus) kämpfte und auf Geheiß von Adolf Hitler hingerichtet wurde. Es gibt Denkmäler für Thälmann in Moskau und in Berlin. Das in der deutschen Hauptstadt gelegene Denkmal wurde anläßlich des 100. Geburtstages von Ernst Thälmann am 15. April 1986 im Stadtbezirk Prenzlauer Berg errichtet.

Die Geschichte wiederholt sich: Ernst Thälmann wird erneut hingerichtet. Jetzt wollen sie es mit seinem Denkmal erledigen. Gerade das kann kaum verhöhnender sein als damals im „Dritten Reich“. Ein Denkmal zur Erinnerung an jemanden, der sein ganzes Leben lang gegen Gesetzlosigkeit und Lügen, gegen den Faschismus gekämpft hat – man kann kann es nicht glauben: Das Denkmal soll eingeschmolzen [1] und verkauft werden. Und der Erlös soll … den Nazis in Kiew zugute kommen.

Einer der Tagesordnungspunkte im Verlaufe eines Treffens von Hitler mit Himmler war die Hinrichtung Ernst Thälmanns, in deren Ergebnis ein persönlicher Beschluß gefaßt wurde: „Thälmann – hinrichten!“. Drei Tage später wurde er in Buchenwald erschossen [2]. Und was tat die deutsche Propaganda? Einen Monat später, am 14. September 1944, berichtete die staatliche „Deutsche Nachrichtenagentur“, daß die Truppen der Anti-Hitler-Koalition im Zuge der Bombardierung angeblich bis nach Buchenwald gekommen seien [3], es habe viele Fliegerbomben gegeben, und unter den Toten sei Ernst Thälmann gewesen.

Ich sagte schon, daß sich die Geschichte wiederholt. Und selbst dieses Fragment hat sich bei der Inszenierung in Bucha wiederholt, wo von den gegenwärtigen Kiewer Nazis angeblich „vom russischen Militär ermordete Zivilisten“ auf den Straßen der Stadt gefunden worden seien.

Doch nun ein Wort über Moskau. Bei uns in Moskau steht seit fast 40 Jahren an der Metrostation „Aeroport“ ein Denkmal für den Deutschen, Ernst Thälmann, ein Werk der Artamon-Bildhauer. Die Zeiten haben sich geändert, aber wir bewahren die Erinnerung an Ernst Thälmann, als an einen Mann, der gegen den sogenannten „Nationalsozialismus“ (d.h. gegen den Faschismus!) gekämpft hat und einer der ersten war, der dessen teuflisches Wesen entlarvte.

Übrigens, ich kann mich nicht daran erinnern, daß jemals ein Mitarbeiter der BRD-Botschaft zum Thälmann-Denkmal gekommen wäre, um dort Blumen niederzulegen, korrigieren Sie mich, wenn ich mich irre, oder daß sie sich irgeneiner von denen um dessen Sicherheit gekümmert hätte. Wobei es doch Teil der Geschichte des deutschen Volkes ist – eine seiner berühmtesten und heroischsten Episoden!

Und noch etwas. Wie oft haben wir von der Suche der Nationen nach einer „neuen Identität“ gehört, was nach Meinung der „Progressiven“ den Abriß alter Denkmäler im Namen der Errichtung neuer Denkmäler rechtfertigen sollte. Vor nicht allzu langer Zeit wurde in der Nähe des Moskauer Denkmals für Ernst Thälmann ein anderes Denkmal für Iwan Tschernjachowski, den sowjetischen General, den Helden des Großen Vaterländischen Krieges, eingeweiht. Dazwischen liegen 400-500 Meter. Und diese Denkmäler stehen in der Nähe – ein Denkmal zu Ehren des hervorragenden Deutschen und zu Ehren desjenigen, der gegen die deutschen Eroberer gekämpft hat. Es ist bei uns jedoch niemandem in den Sinn gekommen, ein Denkmal für ein anderes abzureißen.

Im offiziellen Berlin müßten doch alle Alarmglocken schrillen: Wenn die „neue Ethik“ der BRD zum Abriß eines Denkmals für einen Antifaschisten führt, dann wird es wohl in fünf bis zehn Jahren in Deutschland auch Denkmäler für Hitler und andere Faschisten geben.

Das Ernst-Thälmann-Denkmal in Berlin

Polnischer MDR-Journalist: Das öffentlich-rechtliche Fernsehen kehrt zu seinen Zuschauern zurück, zu seinen Eigentümern – der polnischen Gesellschaft.

Dank unser aller öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunk- und Fernsehsender gab es in den Feiertagswochen ein beeindruckendes Nutzererlebnis. Ein MDR-Journalist, gebürtig in Polen und somit Kenner seiner Heimat, schilderte in einer Reportage emotional seine Eindrücke über einen Vorgang in der Medienlandschaft Polens nach der Wahl. Von einem Tag auf den anderen änderten sich dort Stil und Inhalt der Hauptnachrichtensendung. Verständlich war, dass der polnische Journalist in deutschen Diensten Freude äußerte und zukunftsweisende Worte aussprach, die beinah so klangen, als sollten sie auch für unsere Medien und unsere gespaltene Gesellschaft gelten, die dringend einen Weg der Annährung braucht. Ein Kommentar von Frank Blenz.

Abzuwarten bleibt über eine polnische Medienreform hinaus, ob die neue Regierung letztlich nicht eine ähnlich konservative wie die alte ist, denn mit Blick gen Osten signalisiert der neue Premier Donald Tusk keine Änderung der unversöhnlichen Marschrichtung. Doch zunächst herrscht Hoffnung.

Ein Versprechen

Haben Sie schon mal polnisches Fernsehen (TVP) gesehen? Eine Nachrichtensendung? Im vergangenen Sommer noch wirkte das, als fände eine Art Polit-Unterricht für die gesamte Bevölkerung statt. Die damals all überall herrschende Regierung unter der Fuchtel der PiS hatte wie viele Institutionen auch die Medien im Sack. Nachrichtensprecher klangen so, als gehörten sie der Regierungspartei an. Polens Staatsfernsehen TVP wurde schlicht als Propaganda-Sender missbraucht, Hetze gegen Andersdenkende und Minderheiten inklusive. Man bedenke: Polen ist ein katholisches, ein christliches Land. Vor allem erklangen permanent Lobeshymnen auf die Regierung und ihre Arbeit, während gegen die Opposition heftig ausgeteilt wurde. Dann kam die Wahl, und die regierende PiS wurde nach einiger Verzögerung durch eine Dreier-Koalition unter dem neuen Ministerpräsidenten Donald Tusk abgelöst. Jetzt nach der Wahl wurde als eine erste Maßnahme die Chefetage des TVP ausgetauscht, Standards des unabhängigen Journalismus sollen Einzug halten. Aufhorchen ließ ein Versprechen der Nachrichtenredaktion des TVP, das auch für deutsche Mediennutzer schier wunderbar klingt:

Die neue Nachrichtenredaktion gab ein Versprechen für die Zukunft ab. Das öffentlich-rechtliche Fernsehen kehre zu seinen Zuschauern zurück, zu seinen Eigentümern – der polnischen Gesellschaft. Man wolle alle ansprechen, unabhängig von der Weltanschauung, dem Glauben, dem Alter und den persönlichen Interessen. Das öffentlich-rechtliche Fernsehen müsse eine Stimme der Bürger, nicht die der Politiker sein. Unparteilichkeit und Raum für Debatten wurden als Leitwerte genannt. „Es wird keinen Platz für Pöbeleien, Hetze und Ausgrenzung geben“, sagte der neue TVP-Intendant Tomasz Sygut. Stattdessen wolle man die Gemeinschaft stärken: „Wir werden die Menschen einen, nicht spalten.“ Und der Moderator im Studio forderte die Zuschauer zum Schluss auf: „Bitte üben Sie ruhig Kritik! Wir werden darauf hören und wenn nötig nachbessern. Das versprechen wir Ihnen.“

Der polnische Journalist Cezary Bazydło von der deutschen Osteuropa-Redaktion des MDR äußerte im Rahmen seiner Berichterstattung über die Entwicklungen in den Medien seine Hoffnung:

„Als polnischer Bürger hoffe ich, dass diese Versprechen tatsächlich erfüllt werden. Die Polen haben es verdient, und am 15. Oktober haben sie an den Wahlurnen bei einer Rekordbeteiligung gezeigt, dass sie sich ein anderes, demokratisches Polen wünschen. Dazu gehört auch ein unparteiisches öffentlich-rechtliches Fernsehen.“

Vorher war TVP gucken fast wie Folter

Vorher, in den letzten Jahren, erlebte der MDR-Mann Cezary Bazydło wie viele seiner Landsleute den TV-Alltag so:

„TVP zu gucken, das war in den letzten Jahren eine Qual für mich, fast eine Folter. Das Ausmaß der Lügen, Tatsachenverdrehungen, Manipulationen, die Lobhudelei gegenüber der regierenden PiS-Partei, die hasserfüllten Kommentare gegenüber der Opposition, manchmal auch mit triefendem patriotischen Pathos gepaart, waren kaum zu ertragen. TVP guckte ich nur, wenn ich es aus dienstlichen Gründen tun musste – oder wenn es während meiner Polenbesuche irgendwo im Hintergrund zufällig lief.“

Und tatsächlich, beinah pünktlich zu den Feiertagswochen…

„Am 21. Dezember schaltete ich aber freiwillig ein – wie nahezu 4,3 Millionen Polen, von denen viele das Staatsfernsehen wie ich seit Jahren mieden. Die erste Ausgabe der neuen Hauptnachrichtensendung von TVP nach der Übernahme des Senders durch die neue Führung wurde ein Hit – sie zog fast doppelt so viele Zuschauer an wie die alten Nachrichten, die immer mehr Polen nur noch als grobschlächtige PiS-Propaganda wahrnahmen. Umfragen sprechen hier eine klare Sprache – während im Jahr 2012 noch 50 Prozent der Befragten dem Staatsfernsehen TVP vertrauten, hat sich dieser Wert bis zum Ende der PiS-Ära auf nur noch 25 Prozent halbiert.“(Quelle: MDR)

Demokratischer Medienumbau – erst der Anfang für ein gerechteres, besseres Polen?

Der einstige EU-Ratspräsident Donald Tusk ist nun der neue Premier, er tritt seine dritte Amtszeit an. Tusk führt ein Bündnis aus drei Koalitionspartnern an, Baustellen gibt es viele wie die Medien, der Sozialstaat, die Bildung (ein rückwärtsgewandtes Schulgesetz), ein reaktionäres Abtreibungsgesetz, krasse Regelungen der Migration. Polen hat viele Probleme, eine große Einkommensungleichheit in der Bevölkerung, wenig Toleranz mit Minderheiten, erheblichen Einfluss der Kirche und wenig Kontrolle, undemokratische Institutionen wie Polizei, Kultur, Justiz, ja sogar die Forstbetriebe stehen in der Kritik. Selbst im Verhältnis mit der Ukraine, dem freundschaftlich verbundenen und bislang reich mit polnischen Rüstungsgütern belieferten Nachbarn, zeigen sich Risse. Wochenlang blockierten und blockieren noch immer polnische LKW-Fahrer Grenzübergänge nach Osten wegen unfairer ukrainischer Transportunternehmen und überbordender Getreideexporte des Nachbarn in die EU.

Bei aller Hoffnung der Polen für soziale, gesellschaftliche, wirtschaftliche Wandlungen im eigenen Land: Tusk wird ähnlich wie sein Vorgänger nach außen optisch zwar einen auf europafreundlich machen, dafür ist der Mann aus Sopot bei Gdańsk vor einigen Jahren für „Verdienste um die europäische Integration und um die deutsch-polnische Versöhnung“ mit dem Karlspreis ausgezeichnet worden. Doch seine unmissverständliche Kompromisslosigkeit (und diplomatische Schwäche) gegenüber dem weiteren Nachbarn Russland, seine sture Treue zur NATO und den USA (Polen ist Teil der Ostflanke des großen Bruders aus Übersee) konterkarieren Worte wie Integration, Verständigung, Versöhnung, Nachbarschaft. Während Polens Eliten also weiter in die Rüstung, in Konfrontation, in vorgeblichen Stolz und Borniertheit investieren (und die Ressourcen der Bürger dazu missbrauchen), fahren Woche für Woche zigtausend polnische Arbeiter als Berufspendler ins westliche Ausland oder als Klein-LKW-Fahrer über europäische Autobahnen, um günstig den Warenumsatz der Marktwirtschaft mit am Laufen zu halten. Auf dass sie das teuer und teuer werdende Leben in der Heimat finanzieren …

Auch die Deutschen verdienten, dass die öffentlich-rechtlichen Medien etwas versprechen

Das Versprechen des neuen TVP-Intendanten Tomasz Sygut an die polnischen Bürger ist kraftvoll und erhellend, kommt man als Deutscher doch sofort darauf, dass es auch und gerade mit unserer bundesrepublikanischen Medienlandschaft als Teil (und Mitverursacher) einer kranken Gesellschaft nicht gut bestellt ist. Nur mal nebenbei, zahlreich sind die Beiträge der NachDenkSeiten über den Zustand der Medien in unserem Land, die belegen, wie gespalten wird, wie ausgegrenzt wird, wie jämmerlich der Zustand der Demokratie ist, wie arrogant die Regierungssprecher den Medien in der Bundespressekonferenz (keine) Auskunft geben. Noch mal das Versprechen aus Polen als Deutscher betrachtet und kommentiert:

„Das öffentlich-rechtliche Fernsehen kehre zu seinen Zuschauern zurück, zu seinen Eigentümern – der polnischen Gesellschaft.“

Tatsächlich sind wir, die Bundesbürger, die Eigentümer und Auftraggeber des ÖRR, die diesen kraftvoll mit Gebühren mitfinanzieren. Zahlreich sind die Beschwerden der Bürger über Programm, Ausgestaltung, Abgehobenheit und Einseitigkeit.

Man wolle alle ansprechen, unabhängig von der Weltanschauung, dem Glauben, dem Alter und den persönlichen Interessen. Das öffentlich-rechtliche Fernsehen müsse eine Stimme der Bürger, nicht die der Politiker sein.

Die Worte „Stimme der Bürger, nicht der Politiker“ gehörten ins Stammbuch der Redaktionen der Nachrichtensender, der Bundespressekonferenz, der „meinungsführenden“ Zeitungen. Nebenbei sollte diese Stimme auch wie die Stimme der Bürger klingen – ohne Hicks und fanatische „Innenen“-Formulierungen.

Unparteilichkeit und Raum für Debatten wurden als Leitwerte genannt.

Man stelle sich vor, Sendungen à la Maischberger, Lanz, Hart aber fair und wie sie alle heißen begäben sich engagiert auf den Weg der freien, ergebnisoffenen, toleranten Debattenkultur …

Deutschland befindet sich derzeit immer noch in einer Starre der Ausgrenzung, der Diffamierung dem Mainstream missliebiger Menschen und Meinungen, unsere Gesellschaft wird fortgesetzt, vielfältig und infam gespalten.

Der Moderator im Studio forderte die Zuschauer zum Schluss auf: „Bitte üben Sie ruhig Kritik! Wir werden darauf hören und wenn nötig nachbessern. Das versprechen wir Ihnen.“

Man stelle sich vor, Tagesschau-Sprecher formulierten solche Worte …

Abschließend: zaghafte und doch skandalöse Versuche der Normalisierung

Während Polen sich auf den Weg begibt, vielleicht eine bessere, offene, gerechtere Gesellschaft zu werden und dabei immer noch die Eliten im Weg stehen, ist hierzulande hier und da ein wenig politisches Tauwetter im gesellschaftlichen Leben zu beobachten. Beispiel: Sie kennen doch Nena, die berühmte Sängerin, deren Hit und, ja, Friedenslied „99 Luftballons“ bis heute aktuell ist. Diese Nena gilt bis heute als eine der Künstlerinnen, die den Stempel „umstritten“ tragen, aufgedrückt von den selbst ernannten Nichtumstrittenen in den Medien, in der Veranstalterbranche, in der Politik. Auf Nachrichtenseiten wird bis heute so oder so ähnlich über die Sängerin geschrieben:

Die 63-Jährige gilt seit der Corona-Pandemie als umstritten. Damals fiel sie unter anderem durch Äußerungen gegen die Maßnahmen der Bundesregierung und zu Demonstrationen auf. Mehrere ihrer Shows wurden danach abgesagt.

Doch, welch´ Veränderung geschah jetzt: Nena war tatsächlich Gast der ZDF-Sendung Helene Fischer Show. Einerseits wurde dies danach gewohnt boshaft begleitet von Schmährufen und Häme in sozialen und professionellen Medien, andererseits lenkt man nun allmählich ein. Das geschieht, indem Befürworter, die vor Wochen, Monaten kaum öffentlich zitiert worden wären, sich äußern dürfen. Hier war es der Musikmanager Thomas Stein.

„Ein paar Spießer regen sich auf und machen aus einer Kleinigkeit ein Monument. Das ist typisch.“ Frühere Aussagen der Sängerin, wie zum Beispiel die Aufforderung an ihre Fans, sich über die Hygienevorschriften hinwegzusetzen, empfinde er durchaus als „unglücklich“. Aber dennoch sei Nena eine Künstlerin, „die Menschen mit ihrer Musik seit langer Zeit viel Freude macht. Wir können sie doch jetzt nicht einfach auf Jahrzehnte verbannen.“ Weiter sagte er: „Viele Politiker reden auch jeden Tag dummes Zeug. Ein Auftrittsverbot bekommen sie deswegen auch nicht.“

Ja, Herr Stein und all die anderen, die ehrlich oder widerstrebend erkennen, was derlei Verbannung der vergangenen Jahre bis heute angerichtet hat und weiter anrichtet: Wir können und dürfen keinen Mitbürger aus unserer Gesellschaft verbannen. Politiker, die dummes Zeug reden und tun, sollten indes zurücktreten.

U.S. War Plans Failed in 2023

The American strategy of waging war against Russia and China at the same time was thwarted by the emergence of a new front in the Middle East.

In 2023, all American war plans were thwarted. Washington was preparing for a conflict scenario against the powers that lead the geopolitical transition towards multipolarity – Russia and China. But the worsening security crisis in the Middle East prevented the American strategy from being implemented successfully.

First, it is necessary to remember that the central guideline of American military policy has been, since at least the end of Cold War, the ability to “win two wars at the same time“. After the dismantling of the USSR, Washington became the hegemonic power, undoubtedly stronger than any other country in the world. At the time, there was no state with enough strength to win a direct conflict against American forces, which is why the U.S. believed it could fight and win two conflicts simultaneously.

Over time, this scenario changed. Countries like Russia and China developed militarily and economically and began a process of reformulation of the global geopolitics. Thus, tensions began between the U.S.-led West and the multipolar powers, which reached their highest point in the Ukrainian crisis.

In 2022, Russia made it clear to the West that it is not willing to tolerate military interventionism in its strategic environment. By starting the special military operation in Ukraine, Moscow took the most important step ever taken towards multipolarity. In reaction, the U.S. turned the conflict into a proxy war, preventing Kiev from signing a peace agreement, and beginning a campaign of systematic military support, with the entire NATO sending weapons and money to the neo-Nazi regime to fight Russia.

It would be naive, however, to believe that the U.S. really wanted to “win” a war with Russia using Ukraine. Kiev would never be able to defeat Moscow because it doesn’t even have enough troops for a prolonged conflict. The American objective, as confessed by Ukrainian officials, was merely “to kill Russians.” In other words, unable to win the war, the U.S. only wanted to wear down Russia, generating chaos and instability in Moscow’s strategic environment.

At that moment the American strategy clearly changed. In addition to Russia, Western planners started to analyze the Chinese factor. Realizing that Moscow and Beijing are engaged in a project of unlimited cooperation, with China being a fundamental economic partner of Russia, American strategists understood that it would be “necessary” to neutralize Russia and China at the same time. In short, to prevent the creation of a polycentric world, the U.S. decided that it should destroy the main military (Russia) and economic (China) pro-multipolar powers.

If until then the U.S. military strategy was about “winning two wars at the same time”, now this had become about “winning one war (China) while ‘not losing’ the other (Russia)”. Since a war against two superpowers at the same time is virtually impossible, the “solution” found was to escalate the proxy war against Russia and seek a direct conflict against China – which is seen by Washington as a “weaker” target.

Since 2022, the U.S. has been escalating its provocations against China in the Asia-Pacific region while trying to create new flanks to “wear down” Russia. With the rapid exhaustion of Ukrainian forces last year, the West’s big bet for 2023 was the so-called spring-summer “counteroffensive”, but the Ukrainian operation was an absolute failure. Tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers died and Kiev’s chances of continuing to “wear down” Russia depleted – leading the U.S. to seek to create “new fronts”.

The West tried – and failed – to carry out a color revolution in Georgia to lead Tbilisi to attack Ossetia and Abkhazia. In the same vein, it created a new conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh to make the region a NATO occupation zone on both sides (Turks by Azerbaijan, U.S. and EU by Armenia) – but Western powers have not been successful either, as Moscow has acted with diplomatic goodwill, avoiding any military involvement. Also, the West failed to provoke Moldova to resume military measures in Transnistria, thus not being able to create new anti-Russian flanks in Eurasia.

Washington has also tried unsuccessfully to confront Russia in Africa. As well known, several pro-Russian revolutions have occurred in the so-called “Françafrique”. In reaction, the West has armed terrorist groups to fight revolutionary governments, but, in partnership with the PMC Wagner Group, local forces have been effective in neutralizing NATO-armed criminal gangs and preventing regime change operations.

On its part, China has not reacted to American provocations, focusing on maintaining diplomacy as the main point of its foreign policy. The country is preparing for a possible conflict but is not taking preventive measures and there is no evidence that Beijing will seek to guarantee its sovereignty over Taiwan and the South Sea militarily. In this way, China has made any American military measures in the Asia Pacific inexcusable, delaying Washington’s war plans.

However, another event that occurred in 2023 further damaged the American military project. In October, the Hamas-led Palestinian resistance launched the so-called “Al Aqsa Flood Operation” against Israel, leading to a new war in the Middle East. Palestinian actions immediately received support from the Iran-led “Axis of Resistance”, with Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthis participating in the hostilities. The U.S. was then forced to engage in a new conflict, mobilizing forces to support Israel and trying unsuccessfully to organize an “international coalition” against Yemen in the Red Sea.

It is possible to say that the war in the Middle East definitively destroyed American plans. Washington was preparing for a two-front conflict, in which they hoped to defeat China and “weaken” Russia. However, with a new flank in the Middle East, the situation became significantly complicated. Any armed intervention by the U.S. in the region would provoke a strong reaction from Iran, leading to a large-scale war. Instead of two fronts, the U.S. would have to fight in three different regions, creating a serious problem for American forces.

In this sense, 2023 ends with the U.S.-led Collective West extremely weakened, having to choose between a total global war on three fronts or diplomatic negotiations. If American decision makers act rationally, they will accept talks with non-aligned powers, establishing the terms for the creation of a multipolar order. But, unfortunately, Western leaders do not always act rationally.

In 2024 it will be necessary to closely monitor the West’s actions. Faced with the advancement of multipolarity, the U.S. and its allies become increasingly aggressive, fomenting wars and chaos. At the same time, Western powers are weaker than ever, which could be a decisive factor for them to finally agree to negotiate. It is necessary to monitor what will happen in Ukraine, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, as well as cover possible escalations in Africa and other regions (such as, for example, South America, where pro-multipolar Venezuela and pro-U.S. Guyana are engaging in serious tensions).

In short, the future is truly uncertain, as both total war and multipolar peace are possible.

El presidente cubano, Miguel Díaz-Canel, llamó hoy a los países de todo el mundo a tomar medidas contra el genocidio perpetrado por el ejército de ocupación israelí contra los residentes de la Franja de Gaza.

“Es necesario que el mundo tome medidas contra el genocidio, mientras continúa la agresión israelí contra la Franja de Gaza”, escribió Díaz-Canelen su cuenta en la plataforma X.

Asimismo, publicó fotografías de civiles palestinos martirizados como consecuencia de los ataques israelíes a la Franja de Gaza.

El mandatario cubano había subrayado anteriormente que “debe terminar la barbarie de “Israel” contra el pueblo palestino”.

Miles de cubanos, encabezados por el presidente Díaz-Canel, salieron en noviembre pasado en una masiva marcha de solidaridad con Palestina y para denunciando los crímenes de la ocupación israelí.

El primer ministro de Eslovaquia: las condiciones para la solución del conflicto en Ucrania pone Rusia

Las condiciones para resolver el conflicto en Ucrania no serán establecidas por la Unión Europea, sino por Rusia, dijo el 2 de enero el primer ministro Eslovaco, Robert Fico, en una entrevista con el canal de televisión ta3.

“Creo que estamos llegando a un período en el que la Unión Europea no establecerá las condiciones para la solución del conflicto en Ucrania bajo ninguna circunstancia. Los pondrá la Federación rusa”, dijo Fico.

Según el primer ministro Eslovaco, la membresía en la UE tiene ventajas, pero también tiene desventajas. Por ejemplo, según Fico, en Bruselas no se puede expresar libremente su opinión, incluso sobre los eventos en Ucrania.

“Todos sabemos lo que está pasando en Ucrania. Pero cuando empiezas a hablar de esto abiertamente en las reuniones del Consejo de la UE, te responden: tienes razón, Robert, pero es incorrecto, no deberíamos hablar de esto aquí”, dijo el jefe del gobierno Eslovaco.

Formalizó su entrada Arabia Saudita, entre otros cuatro nuevos miembros

Marina Menéndez Quintero (Juventud Rebelde).— En medio de las malas noticias que significan la continuación de la masacre israelí en Gaza y la inacción de la ONU; la continuación del conflicto en Ucrania y el decrecimiento económico mundial previsto por los organismos financieros internacionales, entre otros problemas, la materialización de un Brics reforzado con la entrada de otros cinco miembros, constituye un magnífico saludo para 2024.

Con una proyección hacia el Sur quizá más activa y visible desde la asunción, hace ahora exactamente un año, de Lula como presidente de Brasil, el grupo conformado originalmente, además, por Rusia, India, China y Sudáfrica, recibió de manera formal, este martes, la llegada de Arabia Saudita, paso que también están dando Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Etiopía, Irán y Egipto, como fue acordado en la Cumbre de los Brics celebrada en Johannesburgo el pasado agosto, y que se perderá la Argentina de Javier Milei, cuya entrada también se aprobó pero el nuevo mandatario dejará pasar.

Materializar esas incorporaciones significará dotar al pequeño numéricamente, pero potente grupo, de un mayor peso en la economía del orbe. Si su PIB representaba entre un 23 y un 25 por ciento del producto interno bruto mundial, se estima que ese índice ascenderá ahora a un rango en torno al 29 por ciento.

La presencia entre los integrantes del Brics ampliado de muchas de las principales economías productoras de petróleo también les otorga valor agregado, pues el total de la producción de crudo de sus miembros ascenderá en el nuevo formato a 3,4 millones de barriles diarios, equivalentes a un 42 por ciento de la producción mundial.

Pero tales capacidades no serían tan relevantes sin el espíritu de cooperación y de fomento del multilateralismo que prima en la actuación de los Brics, lo que ha convertido a ese conglomerado en esperanza con asideros reales para las naciones del Tercer Mundo.

Su papel como contrapeso del injusto orden económico y financiero mundial ha sido advertido por la treintena de países que han manifestado su deseo de incorporarse, estimulados por el respaldo de su Nuevo Banco de Desarrollo a proyectos de cooperación con las naciones del Sur que suman más de 90 de ellos desde la fundación del banco en 2015, además del fomento de las transacciones financieras prescindiendo del billete verde estadounidense.

Ello ha propiciado un empuje a la llamada desdolarización en el intercambio comercial internacional, que beneficia no solo a los países con reservas en divisas enflaquecidas, sino a aquellas castigadas por las ilegales e injustas medidas coercitivas unilaterales que les impiden el acceso al dólar.

En ese contexto, la dinámica actividad china en el comercio mundial ha potenciado, de forma paralela, el uso del yuan, que ha sido moneda salvadora en algunos casos de países con fuerte endeudamiento, y sin dólares para pagar.

De hecho, se ha conocido que en las relaciones de compra-venta entre dos de los miembros más fuertes y líderes en el contrapeso a la unipolaridad, precisamente China y Rusia, el 92 por ciento de las transacciones se realiza ya haciendo uso de sus monedas nacionales.

Es una práctica que se extiende, incluso, fuera de los marcos del Brics, ya sea de forma bilateral o en el contexto de otros bloques como la Organización de Cooperación de Shangai, que también ha adoptado el incremento del uso de las monedas nacionales en los acuerdos mutuos, como línea.

El año que comienza se anuncia apretado para el Sur, pero la acción de los Brics permitirá que les sea menos angosto.

Ucrania plantea 5 exigencias a Occidente y Moscú responde

El canciller nazi Dmitri Kuleba propone el aislamiento de diplomáticos rusos, entre otros planteamientos.

Occidente no podrá aislar a los diplomáticos rusos, afirmó la portavoz del Ministerio de Exteriores de Rusia, María Zajárova, en respuesta a los llamamientos del canciller ucraniano Dmitri Kuleba.

La vocera comentó los cinco pasos planteados por Kuleba que deben dar los países occidentales para apoyar a Ucrania en el conflicto con Rusia. Uno de estos es “aislar a los diplomáticos rusos en las pertinentes capitales y organizaciones internacionales“.

El canciller plantea acelerar la entrega de sistemas antiaéreos adicionales y municiones a Ucrania, proporcionar a Kiev drones de combate de todo tipo; suministrar misiles de largo alcance, superior a 300 kilómetros; aprobar el uso de activos rusos congelados para ayudar a Ucrania; y el aislamiento de los diplomáticos rusos.

“El mundo está cansado de la opresión de las sanciones ilegales”

“Recuerda: nadie aislará a los diplomáticos rusos”, escribió Zajárova en su canal de Telegram al dirigirse al canciler ucraniano. Asimismo, señaló que Rusia acaba de asumir la presidencia del BRICS, agrupación política y económica que este año incorporó a cinco nuevos Estados, y que Moscú tiene “grandes, grandiosos planes para la presidencia”.

“El mundo está cansado de la opresión de las sanciones ilegales y de las mezquinas ambiciones de un reducido grupo de regímenes occidentales”, añadió.

Zajárova subrayó que Moscú defenderá en organizaciones internacionales no solo su propia posición, sino que también luchará por “preservar la letra y el espíritu de esas estructuras, hoy sometidas al bárbaro ataque de las dictaduras liberales occidentales“.

Además de la actividad en el formato internacional en el extranjero, sostuvo, Rusia también celebrará grandes eventos en su territorio. Uno de ellos es el Festival Mundial de la Juventud, programado del 1 al 7 de marzo.

Asimismo, indicó que su país desarrollará relaciones bilaterales “con todos aquellos que respeten los principios jurídicos internacionales y estén dispuestos a una cooperación igualitaria y mutuamente beneficiosa”.

Ucrania plantea 5 exigencias a Occidente y Moscú responde

Una familia palestina asesinada en su casa a sangre fría por las tropas israelíes

Acorralada en el barrio de Shaij Ridwan de la ciudad de Gaza, la familia Al Jaldi corrió a la planta baja de su casa cuando las tropas israelíes bombardearon una zona cercana, pensando que sería el lugar más seguro.

El 21 de diciembre, alrededor de las 13.00 horas, un ataque aéreo israelí alcanzó la casa vecina matando a algunos de sus ocupantes e hiriendo a Fatima Al Jaldi, madre de dos hijos.

Para entonces ya era demasiado tarde para huir o intentar llegar al hospital, ya que los tanques israelíes rodeaban la zona y los soldados se acercaban.

Una treintena de palestinos habían encontrado refugio en la casa, algunos de ellos desplazados por los combates de otras zonas de la ciudad.

Alrededor de las 8 de la noche llegaron los soldados israelíes. “Sin tener en cuenta a las mujeres, los niños o los ancianos que dormían, arrojaron dos granadas dentro de la casa”, relata Fahed Al Jaldi, cuñado de Fátima, que se encontraba en la casa en ese momento en el sur de Gaza.

“Luego abrieron fuego directamente contra la gente y de forma indiscriminada, sin hacer distinción entre jóvenes y mayores”, añade, relatando el suceso como le contó más tarde su hermano Mohammad.

Cinco personas murieron instantáneamente, entre ellas Ahmed, el otro hermano de Jaled y marido de Fátima. Uno de sus hijos, Faisal, resultó herido.

“Dejen que los que todavía están vivos salgan de la habitación ahora”, ordenaron los soldados, cuenta Fahed.

Los supervivientes, entre ellos Mohammed, el hermano mayor de Fahed, fueron puestos en fila en el patio de la casa y luego desnudados. Después de ser registrados, los soldados les dieron instrucciones específicas diciéndoles que huyeran si querían sobrevivir. Se marcharon temiendo por sus vidas, dejando atrás muertos y heridos.

“Los soldados regresaron a la habitación y ejecutaron a todos los heridos”, continúa Fahed.

Fátima, que estaba embarazada, fue abandonada allí para que muriera desangrada.

Faisal, su hijo de 4 años herido en el ataque, sobrevivió y luego fue trasladado al hospital de Al Shifa.

Dos días después, cuando las fuerzas israelíes se retiraron, Mohammed regresó a la zona. Contó nueve cadáveres en la casa, incluidos los de Ahmed, Fátima, su tío anciano y ciego, así como el de su esposa.

La historia de la familia Al Jaldi fue confirmada por el Observatorio Euromediterráneo de Derechos Humanos, que dice haber documentado numerosas ejecuciones similares llevadas a cabo por las fuerzas israelíes en Gaza en los últimos tiempos.

Líbano presentará queja ante ONU por ataques y violaciones israelíes

Líbano presentará una queja ante el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU debido a los constantes ataques y violaciones israelíes, confirmó el primer ministro interino, Najib Mikati.

El jefe del gobierno libanés solicitó al canciller Abdullah Bou Habib, realizar una denuncia urgente en el Consejo de Seguridad en el contexto de la flagrante agresión israelí a la soberanía nacional con el bombardeo ocurrido en el suburbio sur de la capital esta tarde.

Con anterioridad, Mikati enfatizó que el crimen israelí definitivamente apunta a llevar al país a una nueva fase de enfrentamientos después de sus bombardeos diarios en la frontera sur.

En la acción cometida por Tel Aviv resultaron asesinados el vicejefe del Buró Político de la resistencia palestina Hamas, Saleh Al-Arouri, y otros dos dirigentes de las Brigadas Al-Qassam, ala militar del movimiento.

Ante el hecho, el jefe de la Corriente Marada en Líbano, Suleiman Franjieh, indicó que la explosión que tuvo como objetivo el suburbio del sur de Beirut es una clara y nueva violación de la soberanía nacional y un golpe a la Resolución 1701 por parte del enemigo israelí.

El candidato a la presidencia de la República reiteró que el régimen de Tel Aviv no respeta ninguna resolución internacional y «hoy se esfuerza por compensar sus pérdidas internas a través de sus ataques al Líbano».

Al respecto, indicó que los caídos en el camino a Jerusalén son mártires de los ciudadanos árabes defensores de la causa palestina.

También, el Partido Socialista Progresista condenó enérgicamente el ataque israelí dirigido contra Al-Arouri, junto a la continua brutalidad en Palestina y el sur del Líbano.

En esta línea de mensaje, el portavoz del movimiento yemenita, Ansar Allah, Muhammad Abdul Salam, rechazó el asesinato de Al-Arouri, que constituye una traicionera agresión israelí contra Líbano.

A propósito, reafirmó el apoyo a los movimientos de resistencia en Palestina y el Líbano.

Por su parte, el secretario general del Partido Frente de Acción Islámica en Jordania, Murad Al-Adaileh, manifestó al canal panárabe Al Mayadeen que la sangre de Al-Arouri desatará las energías de la nación en defensa del proyecto de liberación.

En este sentido, los Comités de Resistencia de Palestina subrayaron que el asesinato del alto dirigente de Hamas no quebrará la voluntad del pueblo, sino aumentará su acción revolucionaria.

Al mismo tiempo, las fuerzas nacionales e islámicas en Cisjordania anunciaron una huelga y una movilización general mañana, en duelo por el vicejefe del Buró Político de Hamas, Saleh Al-Arouri.

Un avión militar israelí bombardeó con tres misiles un edificio en la zona de Al-Dahiya, suburbio sur de Beirut, asesinando a Al-Arouri y a sus compañeros, además de provocar heridas en otras personas.

In an address to the Trondheim World Festival in Norway, John Pilger charts the history of power propaganda and describes how it appropriates journalism in a ‘profound imperialism’ and is likely to entrap us all, if we allow it.

In the 1970s, I met one of Hitler’s leading propagandists, Leni Riefenstahl, whose epic films glorified the Nazis. We happened to be staying at the same lodge in Kenya, where she was on a photography assignment, having escaped the fate of other friends of the Fuhrer.

She told me that the ‘patriotic messages’ of her films were dependent not on ‘orders from above’ but on what she called the ‘submissive void’ of the German public.

Did that include the liberal, educated bourgeoisie? I asked. ‘Yes, especially them,’ she said.

I think of this as I look around at the propaganda now consuming Western societies.

Of course, we are very different from Germany in the 1930s. We live in information societies. We are globalists. We have never been more aware, more in touch, better connected.

Are we? Or do we live in a Media Society where brainwashing is insidious and relentless, and perception is filtered according to the needs and lies of state and corporate power?

The United States dominates the Western world’s media. All but one of the top ten media companies are based in North America. The internet and social media – Google, Twitter, Facebook – are mostly American owned and controlled.

In my lifetime, the United States has overthrown or attempted to overthrow more than 50 governments, mostly democracies. It has interfered in democratic elections in 30 countries. It has dropped bombs on the people of 30 countries, most of them poor and defenceless. It has attempted to murder the leaders of 50 countries. It has fought to suppress liberation movements in 20 countries.

The extent and scale of this carnage is largely unreported, unrecognised; and those responsible continue to dominate Anglo-American political life.

In the years before he died in 2008, the playwright made two extraordinary speeches, which broke a silence:

‘US foreign policy,’ he said, is ‘best defined as follows: kiss my arse or I’ll kick your head in’.

It is as simple and as crude as that. What is interesting about it is that it’s so incredibly successful.

It possesses the structures of disinformation, use of rhetoric, distortion of language, which are very persuasive, but are actually a pack of lies. It is very successful propaganda. They have the money, they have the technology, they have all the means to get away with it, and they do.’

In accepting the Nobel Prize for Literature, Pinter said this:

‘The crimes of the United States have been systematic, constant, vicious, remorseless, but very few people have actually talked about them. You have to hand it to America.

It has exercised a quite clinical manipulation of power worldwide while masquerading as a force for universal good. It’s a brilliant, even witty, highly successful act of hypnosis.’

Pinter was a friend of mine and possibly the last great political sage – that is, before dissenting politics were gentrified. I asked him if the ‘hypnosis’ he referred to was the ‘submissive void’ described by Leni Riefenstahl.

The All-American Lie Factory

‘It’s the same,’ he replied.

‘It means the brainwashing is so thorough we are programmed to swallow a pack of lies. If we don’t recognise propaganda, we may accept it as normal and believe it. That’s the submissive void.’

In our systems of corporate democracy, war is an economic necessity, the perfect marriage of public subsidy and private profit: socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor. The day after 9/11 the stock prices of the war industry soared. More bloodshed was coming, which is great for business.

Today, the most profitable wars have their own brand. They are called ‘forever wars’: Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq, Libya, Yemen and now Ukraine. All are based on a pack of lies.

Iraq is the most infamous, with its weapons of mass destruction that didn’t exist.

Nato’s destruction of Libya in 2011 was justified by a massacre in Benghazi that didn’t happen. Afghanistan was a convenient revenge war for 9/11, which had nothing to do with the people of Afghanistan.

Today, the news from Afghanistan is how evil the Taliban are – not that Joe Biden’s theft of $7billion of the country’s bank reserves is causing widespread suffering. Recently, National Public Radio in Washington devoted two hours to Afghanistan – and 30 seconds to its starving people.

At its summit in Madrid in June, Nato, which is controlled by the United States, adopted a strategy document that militarises the European continent, and escalates the prospect of war with Russia and China. It proposes ‘multi domain warfighting against nuclear-armed peer-competitor. In other words, nuclear war.

It says: ‘Nato’s enlargement has been an historic success’.

I read that in disbelief.

A measure of this ‘historic success’ is the war in Ukraine, news of which is mostly not news, but a one-sided litany of jingoism, distortion, omission.  I have reported a number of wars and have never known such blanket propaganda.

In February, Russia invaded Ukraine as a response to almost eight years of killing and criminal destruction in the Russian-speaking region of Donbass on their border.

In 2014, the United States had sponsored a coup in Kyiv that got rid of Ukraine’s democratically elected, Russian-friendly president and installed a successor whom the Americans made clear was their man.

In recent years, American ‘defender’ missiles have been installed in eastern Europe, Poland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, almost certainly aimed at Russia, accompanied by false assurances all the way back to James Baker’s ‘promise’ to Gorbachev in February 1990 that Nato would never expand beyond Germany.

Ukraine is the frontline. Nato has effectively reached the very borderland through which Hitler’s army stormed in 1941, leaving more than 23 million dead in the Soviet Union.

Last December, Russia proposed a far-reaching security plan for Europe.

This was dismissed, derided or suppressed in the Western media. Who read its step-by-step proposals? On 24 February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy threatened to develop nuclear weapons unless America armed and protected Ukraine.  This was the final straw.

On the same day, Russia invaded – according to the Western media, an unprovoked act of congenital infamy. The history, the lies, the peace proposals, the solemn agreements on Donbass at Minsk counted for nothing.

On 25 April, the US Defence Secretary, General Lloyd Austin, flew into Kyiv and confirmed that America’s aim was to destroy the Russian Federation – the word he used was ‘weaken’. America had got the war it wanted, waged by an American bankrolled and armed proxy and expendable pawn.

Almost none of this was explained to Western audiences.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is wanton and inexcusable. It is a crime to invade a sovereign country. There are no ‘buts’ – except one.

When did the present war in Ukraine begin and who started it? According to the United Nations, between 2014 and this year, some 14,000 people have been killed in the Kyiv regime’s civil war on the Donbass. Many of the attacks were carried out by neo-Nazis.

Watch an ITV news report from May 2014, by the veteran reporter James Mates, who is shelled, along with civilians in the city of Mariupol, by Ukraine’s Azov (neo-Nazi) battalion.

In the same month, dozens of Russian-speaking people were burned alive or suffocated in a trade union building in Odessa besieged by fascist thugs, the followers of the Nazi collaborator and anti-Semitic fanatic Stephen Bandera.  The New York Times called the thugs ‘nationalists’.

‘The historic mission of our nation in this critical moment,’ said Andreiy Biletsky, founder of the Azov Battaltion, ‘is to lead the White Races of the world in a final crusade for their survival, a crusade against the Semite-led Untermenschen.’

Since February, a campaign of self-appointed ‘news monitors’ (mostly funded by the Americans and British with links to governments) have sought to maintain the absurdity that Ukraine’s neo-Nazis don’t exist.

Airbrushing, a term once associated with Stalin’s purges, has become a tool of mainstream journalism.

In less than a decade, a ‘good’ China has been airbrushed and a ‘bad’ China has replaced it: from the world’s workshop to a budding new Satan.

Much of this propaganda originates in the US, and is transmitted through proxies and ‘think-tanks’, such as the notorious Australian Strategic Policy Institute, the voice of the arms industry, and by zealous journalists such as Peter Hartcher of the Sydney Morning Herald, who labeled those spreading Chinese influence as ‘rats, flies, mosquitoes and sparrows’ and called for these ‘pests’ to be ‘eradicated’.

News about China in the West is almost entirely about the threat from Beijing.

Airbrushed are the 400 American military bases that surround most of China, an armed necklace that reaches from Australia to the Pacific and south east Asia, Japan and Korea. The Japanese island of Okinawa and the Korean island of Jeju are loaded guns aimed point blank at the industrial heart of China. A Pentagon official described this as a ‘noose’.

Palestine has been misreported for as long as I can remember. To the BBC, there is the ‘conflict’ of ‘two narratives’. The longest, most brutal, lawless military occupation in modern times is unmentionable.

The stricken people of Yemen barely exist. They are media unpeople.  While the Saudis rain down their American cluster bombs with British advisors working alongside the Saudi targeting officers, more than half a million children face starvation.

This brainwashing by omission has a long history. The slaughter of the First World War was suppressed by reporters who were knighted for their compliance and confessed in their memoirs.  In 1917, the editor of the Manchester Guardian, C.P. Scott, confided to prime minister Lloyd George:

‘If people really knew [the truth], the war would be stopped tomorrow, but they don’t know and can’t know.’

The refusal to see people and events as those in other countries see them is a media virus in the West, as debilitating as Covid.  It is as if we see the world through a one-way mirror, in which ‘we’ are moral and benign and ‘they’ are not. It is a profoundly imperial view.

The history that is a living presence in China and Russia is rarely explained and rarely understood. Vladimir Putin is Adolf Hitler. Xi Jinping is Fu Man Chu. Epic achievements, such as the eradication of abject poverty in China, are barely known. How perverse and squalid this is.

When will we allow ourselves to understand? Training journalists factory style is not the answer. Neither is the wondrous digital tool, which is a means, not an end, like the one-finger typewriter and the linotype machine.

In recent years, some of the best journalists have been eased out of the mainstream. ‘Defenestrated’ is the word used. The spaces once open to mavericks, to journalists who went against the grain, truth-tellers, have closed.

The case of Julian Assange is the most shocking.  When Julian and WikiLeaks could win readers and prizes for the Guardian, the New York Times and other self-important ‘papers of record’, he was celebrated.

When the dark state objected and demanded the destruction of hard drives and the assassination of Julian’s character, he was made a public enemy. Vice President Biden called him a ‘hi-tech terrorist’. Hillary Clinton asked, ‘Can’t we just drone this guy?’

The ensuing campaign of abuse and vilification against Julian Assange – the UN Rapporteur on Torture called it ‘mobbing’ — brought the liberal press to its lowest ebb. We know who they are. I think of them as collaborators: as Vichy journalists.

When will real journalists stand up? An inspirational samizdat  already exists on the internet:

And when will writers stand up, as they did against the rise of fascism in the 1930s?

When will film-makers stand up, as they did against the Cold War in the 1940s?

When will satirists stand up, as they did a generation ago?

Having soaked for 82 years in a deep bath of righteousness that is the official version of the last world war, isn’t it time those who are meant to keep the record straight declared their independence and decoded the propaganda?

The urgency is greater than ever.
