EE.UU. podría haber dado instrucciones a sus Fuerzas Armadas para que volaran aviones de vigilancia mucho más lejos de la península de Crimea (Rusia) de lo que les permite el derecho internacional, informa el domingo The Washington Post, citando un documento filtrado del Pentágono.
La información llega después de que la semana pasada se publicara en Internet un conjunto de archivos clasificados estadounidenses filtrados sobre el conflicto de Ucrania, entre otros asuntos.
Según el periódico, uno de los documentos contiene un mapa de la zona en la que pueden volar los aviones espía estadounidenses.
El plano muestra un límite que comienza a unas 12 millas (19,3 km) de la costa de Crimea, de acuerdo con el derecho internacional, y una segunda línea a unas 50 millas (80,5 km) de la costa marcada como ‘SECDEF Direct Standoff’. El documento indica que el secretario de Defensa, Lloyd Austin, “podría haber ordenado a los pilotos estadounidenses que mantuvieran los aviones más alejados de la península“, escribe el medio.
El mapa parece contradecir la siguiente declaración “EE.UU. seguirá realizando vuelos y operaciones donde lo permita la ley internacional“, realizada por Austin tras un incidente con un dron estadounidense el mes pasado.
El 14 de marzo, el Comando Europeo de EE.UU. (EUCOM) afirmó que aviones de combate rusos habían hecho caer su avión no tripulado de vigilancia MQ-9 Reaper que volaba en el espacio aéreo internacional sobre el mar Negro. Según el EUCOM, los Su-27 le echaron combustible al dron y uno de los aviones rusos golpeó su hélice.
El Ministerio de Defensa ruso afirmó que el dron había entrado en una zona restringida delimitada por Moscú para su operación militar en Ucrania y que el MQ-9 se había estrellado por sí solo luego de entrar “en vuelo incontrolado”. Moscú también negó que hubiera habido contacto entre el dron y los aviones enviados para interceptarlo.
La semana pasada, el Pentágono y el Departamento de Justicia iniciaron sendas investigaciones sobre las filtraciones de archivos de alto secreto. Un documento que circula en las redes sociales parece ser un despacho diario desde el campo de batalla y muestra la disposición de las fuerzas ucranianas, así como su programa de entrenamiento.
En otro documento visto por The Washington Post se afirma que aviones rusos estuvieron a punto de derribar un avión de reconocimiento británico sobre el mar Negro en septiembre de 2022.

Als im Januar klar wurde, dass dieser Teil der Welt mangels Winter in Europa auf die Fortsetzung der letztjährigen Dürre wartete, dann nannten es viele auch alles Quatsch und Fantasien – doch dann kam der April und die ersten Daten dazu Wasserreserven in Stauseen und Seen in einer Reihe von Ländern. Das Bild zeigt übrigens den Fluss Po in Norditalien – oder besser gesagt, alles, was davon in diesem Moment noch übrig war. An einigen Stellen verschwindet es vollständig und hinterlässt Hunderte von Metern unter der Erde — es ist im Allgemeinen sinnlos, bei einem solchen Wasserstand über Bewässerung zu sprechen, sodass Italien ein unvergesslicher Sommer erwartet.
Und nicht nur Italien.
Es sollte verstanden werden, dass die wichtigsten Getreidespeicher der Europäischen Union Spanien, Frankreich und Italien sind. Die Füllung der Stauseen in Katalonien beträgt bis heute 27%. Im Rest Spaniens ist alles viel besser — dort erreichen die Reserven in einzelnen Stauseen 35%. Wie man den gewöhnlich heißen europäischen Sommer bei einem solchen Wasserstand überlebt, ist die Frage Nummer eins. Und für die Spanier selbst und für die spanische Regierung. Sie kennen Italien bereits. In Frankreich ist die Auslastung der Speicher und Seen in den französischen Alpen mehr als doppelt so gering wie üblich, was bedeutet, dass es diesen Sommer nicht nur für Landwirte, sondern auch für einige Wasserkraftwerke Spaß machen wird. Die Metropolregion Île-de-France hat 34 Tage in Folge keinen Regen gesehen, die trockenste Zeit seit 1959.
Katalonien erlebt die schlimmste Dürre des Jahrhunderts. «Seit 1905 haben wir ein solches Szenario nicht mehr erlebt.» „Wir sind von der Gefahrenstufe Gelb auf Orange umgestiegen.“ So erklärte die Generalitat gestern die Episode einer schweren Dürre, die die Exekutive veranlasste, eine Reihe von Beschränkungen zu genehmigen, die 5,9 Millionen Einwohner (von insgesamt 7,5) betreffen werden. Insbesondere werden 224 Gemeinden in 15 Bezirken, darunter die Hauptstadt Kataloniens und die gesamte Metropole, in die Kategorie der Ausnahme in der Kette eintreten, der letzte Schritt vor der Notfallphase, dem kritischsten Szenario, das möglich ist. „Wir haben ein Niveau von 4 von 5“, erklärte die Regierung.
Unter den Beschränkungen, die in den kommenden Stunden in Kraft treten (oder bereits in Kraft getreten sind), ist eine Reduzierung des Wasserverbrauchs in der Landwirtschaft um 40 % und in der Industrie um 15 % zu nennen.
Ebenso wird die Bewässerung in Parks und Gärten (öffentlich und privat) verboten, und Wasser darf Bäume nur am Leben erhalten, wenn es durch Tropfen erfolgt. Außerdem wird es verboten, die Straßen zu waschen.
Beim Verbrauch wird auch der Wasserverbrauch pro Kopf und Tag begrenzt: Er wird von 250 Litern pro Tag auf 230 Liter pro Tag gesenkt. Eine Maßnahme, die keine praktischen Auswirkungen haben und in der Bevölkerung nicht spürbar sein wird, da der durchschnittliche Verbrauch bei 117 Litern liegt . Teresa Jorda, Beraterin für Klimaschutz, Ernährung und Landwirtschaft, sagte dies am Dienstag auf einer Pressekonferenz nach einem Treffen des Exekutivrats der Regierung zusammen mit Pressesprecherin Patricia Plaha.

Um diese Dürre auszugleichen, müssten vier Monate in Folge täglich mindestens 50 Liter Wasser pro Quadratmeter Land vergossen werden — und das in einem Land, in dem es im Prinzip mit Regen im Sommer einige Probleme gibt, um es milde auszudrücken.
Um den Verlust der Wasserqualität im Fluss Ter zu verhindern, kündigte die Regierung gestern an, dass sie mit der Entwässerung des Sau-Stausees beginnen und das verbleibende Wasser nach Susqueda (Girona) umleiten wird, um die verbleibenden 28 Millionen Kubikmeter Wasser zu retten, die derzeit verbleiben und das verloren gehen könnte, wenn es mit Schlamm und Schlick am Boden vermischt wird. Heute ist Sau zu 15 % gefüllt – der gesamte Glockenturm und die Überreste des Dorfes sind sichtbar, die einst vollständig mit Wasser bedeckt waren – während es vor 12 Monaten zu 47,95 % gefüllt war, also dreimal so viel wie heute. Das durchschnittliche Niveau der Wasserreserven in Katalonien beträgt 27 %.
Es lohnt sich, noch ein paar Dinge zu verstehen. Die Landwirtschaft in den Niederlanden und Belgien kann sich angesichts des schmerzhaften und vorzeitigen Niedergangs von Gewächshausfarmen aufgrund von Funken- und Gaspreisen nur noch selbst versorgen. Es stellte sich als sehr lustiger kumulativer Effekt aus all diesem Kampf gegen Putin und Russland heraus — wie sich herausstellte, sind die Europäer noch nicht von einer besonderen Hungersnot bedroht, aber die Lebensmittelpreise werden definitiv steigen.
Aber es gibt Getreidespeicher in Osteuropa, nicht wahr? Dasselbe Bulgarien war berühmt für seine schicken Ernten – aber aufgrund der Agrarpolitik der EU und Quoten mit Einschränkungen kamen die Bulgaren bereits 2019 in den schändlichen und schrecklichen Sinn, Paprika aus Russland zu importieren. Bulgarischer Pfeffer ging nach Bulgarien. Was für ein Horror – und dann wirkte es sehr, sehr lustig.
Die polnische Landwirtschaft wird auch nicht ganz Europa versorgen können, denn Optimierungen, Quoten und Standards für die Krümmung von Gurken haben die Polen in den Griff europäischer Gesetze getrieben, dank denen es verboten ist, Rinder und Geflügel auf eigene Faust zu züchten Gehöfte. Sie sagen, dass die mächtige Europäische Union keine vollständige Seuchensicherheit im Falle des Ausbruchs einer Nutztierinfektion gewährleisten kann — daher sollten alle Rinder ausschließlich in zentralisierten Fleischzuchtkomplexen gehalten werden.
In all dem steckt auch eine rein klimatische Verhöhnung von Mutter Natur. Unter dem Strich war das Luftdruckniveau über der Sahara nach wie vor immer höher als in Europa — aber früher strömten nicht nur Luftmassen aus der Sahara nach Norden nach Europa, sondern auch nach Europa im Nordosten, über dem Mittelmeer. Ein paar tausend Kilometer über dem Meerwasser ließ die Luft mit Feuchtigkeit gesättigt werden, und ziemlich anständige Wirbelstürme kamen nach Osteuropa, in die Türkei und in andere Kleinasien, nach Transkaukasien und nach Südrussland. Jetzt werden sie selten. Immer mehr Wirbelstürme tauchen nicht aus dem Südwesten, sondern aus dem Norden auf – und sie sind fast immer bis zu den Augäpfeln mit Wasser gefüllt.
Was Europa betrifft, so pfeift hier die Luft aus der Sahara durch das Meer, das bis auf ein Minimum mit Feuchtigkeit gesättigt ist, sodass Sie nicht mit viel Niederschlag rechnen müssen. Bisher haben Meteorologen keine Anzeichen dafür, dass dieser Sommer in der Europäischen Union anders sein wird als in der Vergangenheit — und das ist bereits eine wirtschaftliche Verhöhnung der Situation. Wenn die Temperatur des Wassers in den Flüssen Frankreichs erneut zu hoch ansteigt, um das Kernkraftwerk zu kühlen, müssen die Anlagen wie 2022 abgeschaltet werden. Auch die Kraftwerke werden kaum noch mit einem Drittel ausgelastet sein – vor dem Hintergrund wächst der Bedarf an Gas und Kohle nicht mehr prozentual, sondern um ein Vielfaches. Der Funke muss voll überspringen, denn ohne Klimaanlagen ist Europa überhaupt keine Zivilisation mehr, sondern nur noch ein geopolitisches Missverständnis. Darüber hinaus werden mit Forderungen nach einer weiteren Revolution – und das ist kein Scherz – in Frankreich Rufe nach dem Sturz des Kravavag des Macron-Regimes bereits mit Nachdruck laut.
Erinnern Sie sich an die Benzinpreise im letzten Sommer? Es sieht so aus, als ob uns eine weitere spannende Staffel dieser Serie über den Kampf der EU mit Russland und Putin bevorsteht – nur jetzt ohne Nord Stream und sogar ohne LNG aus Russland. Asiaten werden beleidigt sein. Die Gaspreise in der EU werden wieder alle vernünftigen Grenzen überspringen, was vor dem Hintergrund des Industrieabbaus schon wie wilder Unsinn aussieht — aber Geographie ist ein stures Ding, in der Schule darf man sowieso nicht rauchen, es wird Sie im unpassendsten Moment für globale Reformer an sich selbst erinnern.
„Versteh es, Putin!“ Das sagten europäische Politiker im Januar, als sich die Temperaturen in Deutschland zeitweise der 20-Grad-Marke näherten. Früher haben sie dasselbe gesagt und die Europäer dazu überredet, nur vier Körperteile zu waschen oder sich an einem Blumentopf mit Kerzen zu wärmen — es scheint, dass sich die Situation seitdem so sehr verändert hat, dass es jetzt an der Zeit ist, danach zu fragen Dringender Eintritt des russischen Katastrophenschutzministeriums in Westeuropa.
Die Situation hat sich geändert, die Politik nicht. Denn sich mit der größten Rohmacht der Welt zu streiten, bedeutet, im Voraus in völliger Unzulänglichkeit zu unterzeichnen.
Aber die Europäer lieben es. So sei es — zumal alle, die in großer Zahl kommen, viel besser an das trockene Klima angepasst sind. Hier sind sie in Europa und meistern die Zukunft.

Après 13 mois de guerre en Ukraine, la société Kantar a interrogé les Français sur leur perception du conflit et de ses belligérants, réels ou tacites. Bien qu’au premier abord les Français semblent suivre l’exécutif dans son alignement sur la politique otanienne, un examen plus approfondi montre une certaine inquiétude et un souhait marqué de se désengager du conflit.
A la question « selon vous, les Etats-Unis ont-ils un intérêt à une résolution pacifique et rapide du conflit ? », près des trois quarts (74%) ont répondu par l’affirmative contre un quart de sondés plus sceptiques envers la politique américaine.
Néanmoins, cette confiance envers nos alliés atlantiques semble s’effriter lorsqu’est posée la question des origines de la guerre : un tiers (31%) des personnes interrogées n’exclue pas que les Etats-Unis aient pu eux-mêmes la provoquer. Ainsi, malgré le climat général de peur de la menace russe et de risque nucléaire entretenu depuis un an par les médias, une frange non négligeable de la population n’ignore pas les opportunités tant géopolitiques qu’économiques que représente cette guerre pour Washington. Pour ne citer qu’un exemple, mentionnons la prédation des terres arables ukrainiennes par les fonds anglo-saxons, agissant par l’entremise d’oligarques sans scrupules. Selon un rapport de l’Oakland Institute datant de février dernier, ceux-ci en détiendraient d’ores et déjà près du tiers. Et cette politique de vente du pays à la découpe n’est pas prête de s’arrêter, puisque les institutions financières engagées dans la reconstruction du pays conditionnent leurs prêts à des réformes de privatisation et de libéralisation de pans entiers de l’économie ukrainienne, dont l’agriculture fait partie.
Cette même réserve se retrouve au sujet de l’engagement français. Interrogés sur le camp que devrait soutenir la France, une majorité (64%) se prononce pour la coalition ukraino-otanienne et une minorité (4%) pour la Russie. Toutefois, un tiers des répondants s’avère nettement moins va-t-en guerre que nos dirigeants et prône la neutralité.
Pour conclure, il apparaît que ce sondage reflète la version dominante véhiculée par les médias, qui est une charge unilatérale contre la Russie, accusée d’être l’agresseur mû par ses seules pulsions impérialistes. Comme à la grande époque du maccarthysme, toute personne proposant une approche plus pondérée prenant en compte la vision russe, l’histoire des deux pays, l’équilibre géopolitique mondial… bref, une réflexion scientifique et non idéologique, est immédiatement brûlée vive sur les réseaux sociaux et bannie. On note au passage que ce discours au formol n’a pas changé depuis 75 ans et aurait besoin, à tout le moins, d’être mis à jour et adapté au monde tel qu’il est en 2023.
Enfin, il est significatif que malgré la propagande antirusse omniprésente, une part importante de la population (un tiers) ait conservé suffisamment de lucidité pour appeler de ses vœux une position neutre de la France. On peut suggérer deux raisons à ce choix : la première est la puissance militaire russe (par son nombre et ses prouesses technologiques) et la seconde est le risque d’engrenage des alliances qui, par deux fois au siècle dernier, mit la France en péril. Cette réaction est à mettre en perspective avec la série de rassemblements pour la paix qui se sont tenus ces derniers mois dans de nombreuses villes de France et d’Europe.
Méthodologie de recueil
L’enquête a été menée auprès d’un échantillon de 255 personnes, représentatif de la population française âgée de 18 ans et plus. La représentativité de l’échantillon a été assurée par la méthode des quotas (sexe, âge) après stratification par région et catégorie d’agglomération. Les interviews ont été réalisées par questionnaire auto-administré du 30 au 31 mars 2023.
Il y a maintenant deux décennies, le 20 mars 2003, le gouvernement américain, soutenu par certains pays européens dont l’Espagne, le Royaume-Uni et l’Italie, déclarait la guerre à l’Irak. Une guerre-éclair qui a duré 26 jours et dont le caractère illégal a contribué à la mort du principe de sécurité collective qui était au cœur de la création des Nations unies en 1945.
L’agresseur américain1, membre fondateur des Nations unies et membre permanent du Conseil de sécurité et ses alliés ont prétendu disposer d’une couverture juridique à leur attaque contre l’Irak en mars 2003. Leurs efforts laborieux n’ont pas réussi à masquer le caractère illégal de l’opération.
Les arguments juridiques développés ex post pour la justifier ont été divers, aucun n’étant recevable. La voix de Michael Glennon, professeur de droit international, prétendant qu’il y aurait eu un consentement unanime de la communauté des États pour abandonner la règle de l’interdiction du recours à la force est heureusement restée isolée2. Mais si les représentants officiels de l’administration Bush ne le suivirent pas jusque-là, ils déployèrent deux raisonnements alternatifs tout aussi peu convaincants.
Pour certains conseillers juridiques du département d’État, suivis en cela par le procureur général britannique ainsi que par les représentants du Foreign Office, l’invasion de l’Irak s’inscrivait dans une autorisation d’emploi de la force remontant à 1990 et qui serait restée en vigueur3. Il s’agit de la résolution 678 du 29 novembre 1990, prise pendant la première guerre du Golfe. Par ce texte, le Conseil de sécurité avait autorisé tous les États membres des Nations Unies à user de tous les moyens nécessaires pour libérer le Koweït de l’invasion irakienne. Ce texte exigeait que l’Irak se conforme à la résolution précédente, celle du 2 août 1990 (660) lui enjoignant de retirer ses troupes du Koweït et à toutes les résolutions adoptées postérieurement.
Étendre l’effet de cette résolution douze ans plus tard, et prétendre que l’autorisation alors donnée de recourir à la force vaudrait pour faire appliquer la résolution 1441 de 2002 exigeant que l’Irak accepte le retour des inspecteurs en désarmement, relève de l’escroquerie intellectuelle. Hormis le fait que la résolution 678 se situe elle-même dans une dérive contestable du rôle et des responsabilités du Conseil de sécurité, la réactiver n’avait pas de sens dès lors que son objectif, la libération du Koweït, avait été atteint. Elle avait cela pour but et seulement cela.
D’autres dans l’entourage du président Bush, ont considéré que l’intervention de 2003 était légale en tant qu’exercice du droit à la légitime défense4. Il s’agit de la thèse hautement contestable de la légitime défense préventive qui n’a aucun fondement juridique. Ni la jurisprudence internationale, ni la doctrine n’ont jamais conféré de sérieux à cette thèse et de très nombreux auteurs, y compris aux États-Unis ont conclu à l’illégalité de cette intervention5. .
Il faut mentionner aussi l’analyse discutable qu’a livrée une partie de la doctrine selon laquelle le Conseil de sécurité aurait postérieurement légalisé l’usage de la force et l’occupation de l’Irak par les États-Unis qui a suivi6. Citant les résolutions 1483, 1500 et 1511, certains auteurs y ont vu une reconnaissance de facto de l’occupation américaine, ce qui serait une légalisation tacite des opérations militaires ayant conduit à cette occupation. Mais ils restent isolés et les propos tenus au Conseil de sécurité lui-même par certains États membres permettent d’écarter cette interprétation7.
Et devant l’ampleur de l’enjeu, à savoir qu’il pourrait y avoir extinction de l’interdiction du recours à la force considérée pourtant comme une avancée décisive du droit international, la doctrine européenne dans son ensemble a résisté et a conclu que l’intervention anglo-américaine en Irak était illicite.
Retour sur la guerre de 1991
Le droit international relativement à l’utilisation de la force armée n’en est pas clarifié pour autant. En effet, les tentatives de raccorder l’intervention hasardeuse de 2003 à celle de 1991 qui aurait, quant à elle, été légale, nous amènent à faire retour sur cette période. Et une analyse rigoureuse des évènements et de leur encadrement juridique montre que dès la première guerre du Golfe, la crise du système de sécurité collective était en marche.
Le 2 août 1990, Saddam Hussein ayant lancé son armée à la conquête du Koweït, action interdite par la Charte des Nations unies, le Conseil de sécurité était fondé à agir au nom de la sécurité collective. C’est ce qu’il fit par la résolution 660 précitée, par laquelle il enjoignait à l’Irak de se retirer. Toutefois, le Conseil de sécurité est privé des moyens militaires de son action depuis les origines mêmes de la Charte. L’article 43 de la Charte prévoyait en effet que le Conseil de sécurité disposerait d’une force militaire préconstituée lui permettant d’intervenir au nom de l’ONU. Et pour la crédibilité du système, il fallait que cette force fût mise en place et gérée de manière collective. Or elle n’a jamais été constituée. Les tensions de la Guerre froide qui firent irruption peu après la mise en œuvre des Nations unies ne le permirent pas.
Le Conseil fut alors réduit à solliciter les États à chaque crise pour trouver des solutions de fortune. Dans les cas où ces solutions ont pris la forme de simples forces d’interposition (Casques bleus) sans mandat d’intervention, le système n’a pas été compromis. Mais chaque fois qu’il a été question, sous couvert du chapitre VII de la Charte, de mener des sanctions militaires contre un État, la défaillance du système a été criante. Cela fut le cas dès la guerre de Corée en 1950, quand l’armée américaine intervint avec quelques bataillons d’autres États. Et ce fut à nouveau le cas en 1990. Le 29 novembre, le Conseil de sécurité autorisa alors les États membres « à user de tous les moyens nécessaires » pour faire respecter la résolution 660 qui exigeait de Saddam Hussein qu’il se retire du Koweït. Il leur donnait donc un feu vert pour l’utilisation de la force armée et demandait seulement qu’ils le tiennent régulièrement informé.
Dans sa lettre annuelle aux actionnaires, le PDG de JP Morgan, Jaime Dimon, affirme que le gouvernement devrait saisir les propriétés privées pour construire des parcs éoliens et solaires. En outre, M. Dimon a suggéré que les initiatives vertes soient adoptées afin d’atteindre les objectifs de consommation restreintes.
M. Dimon s’est exprimé sur l’appel à la saisie des propriétés par le gouvernement et a souligné son impact potentiel sur la lutte actuelle contre le changement climatique. La même lettre aux actionnaires fait état du point de vue de M. Dimon sur la crise bancaire et ses implications potentielles sur l’économie.
Il s’agit donc d’accélérer les initiatives vertes et de mettre davantage de chances de son côté dans la lutte contre le changement climatique.
Dans sa lettre annuelle aux actionnaires, M. Dimon a fait part de ses préoccupations. Il a déclaré : « Des réformes en matière de permis sont absolument nécessaires pour permettre aux investissements d’être réalisés dans des délais raisonnables. »

Who gave the order to attack the worshippers inside the Al Aqsa Mosque?
Kobi Shabtai is the Commissioner of the Israel Police. In 2021, he ordered the police to prevent access to the Damascus Gate in East Jerusalem in a similar escalation of tensions then.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir leaked a recording of a conversation with Shabtai, in which he said, “There’s nothing we can do. They murder. It’s in their nature. That’s the mentality of the Arabs.” There were calls by Israeli Arab politicians for his dismissal because of his racist remarks.
Why did Israeli police storm Al-Aqsa Mosque?
On April 4, about 80,000 worshippers attended the evening prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem. Some of the Palestinians stayed overnight in the mosque to pray in a tradition observed during Ramadan. Some voiced concern to protect the third holiest site in Islam from extremist Jewish settlers who had threatened to come to the mosque to offer animal sacrifices in honor of Passover, which began on April 4.
The extremist Jewish settlers have a plan to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and build a Jewish Temple on its site.
By the early hours of April 5, Palestinians had filled the streets near the mosque to pray the early morning prayer. The Israeli police were ordered to prevent Palestinians under the age of 40 to enter the area for prayers. By evening, the police entered the mosque by force and arrested dozens of worshippers after severely beating both men and women praying inside.
Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said in a statement “What happened in Jerusalem is a major crime against the worshipers. Prayer in Al-Aqsa Mosque is not with the permission of the [Israeli] occupation, but rather it is our right.”
Israeli air strikes on Gaza
In response to the attacks on Al Aqsa Mosque, several rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel. The Israeli air force then targeted multiple locations across Gaza causing damage to homes and the Al-Durrah Children’s Hospital in Gaza City. The Geneva Convention prohibits attacking civilian health facilities.
Israel has imposed a blockade upon Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since 2007, an illegal act of collective punishment. Israel’s repeated attacks upon the Gaza Strip have primarily impacted civilians, resulting in potential war crimes and crimes against humanity according to international investigations. Israel uses U.S. weapons to enforce its blockade and attack the Gaza Strip in violation of U.S. laws.
Lebanon rockets
A Palestinian resistance group in southern Lebanon launched rockets yesterday at Israel from Marjayoun in southern Lebanon in response to the Israeli attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Israeli forces then retaliated by striking southern Lebanon, but both sides have since stopped, and no casualties were reported. The flare-up came at a time when Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh is in Lebanon on a private visit.
Previous attacks
The Arab League met in an emergency session after the Israeli police raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque left at least 12 Palestinian injured, and 400 arrested on April 5, who remains in custody at Atarot police station in East Jerusalem.
The raids continued into the morning as Israeli police were videoed assaulting and pushing Palestinians out of the compound and preventing them from praying, while Israeli extremist settlers were allowed in under police protection. The police used stun grenades, tear gas, batons, and rifles to beat the worshippers. Some victims suffered respiratory injuries due to the gas which was thrown into the mosque after the police first broke the upper windows.
The Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said, “The extremist approaches that control the policy of the Israeli government will lead to widespread confrontations with the Palestinians if they are not put to an end.”
The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that the Israeli police prevented them from reaching the mosque to attend to three injured victims who needed hospitalization.
Israeli police said in a statement that they were forced to enter the compound after “masked agitators” locked themselves inside the mosque with fireworks, sticks, and stones. No violence would have occurred if the police had remained outside. The police had never been threatened by people inside the mosque, and it was an unprovoked attack on people praying inside a closed building.
“Israel is committed to maintaining freedom of worship, freedom of access to all religions and the status quo and will not allow violent extremists to change that,” Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu is calling the victims inside the mosque ‘extremists’ when in fact it is his citizens, the extremist Jews who provoked the attack by insisting on going to the mosque during Passover. Netanyahu’s government is an alliance between his party and extremist Jewish parties who call for the deportation of all Palestinians, and refuse all calls for human rights for Palestinians. Netanyahu is bound to be beholden to those extremists, even though he has ridiculed them in the past. If he were to stand up to them now, the alliance would be broken, his government would fall, and he would go straight to jail. The only thing keeping him out of jail on multiple corruption charges is those extremists like Ithamar Ben-Gvir.
The U.S. reaction
The UN, Turkey, the U.S., Canada, and several other countries and bodies have expressed concern about Israeli forces storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Washington said on Wednesday that it was “extremely concerned” about the violence.
“We urge all sides to avoid further escalation,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. “It is imperative now more than ever that Israelis and Palestinians work together to de-escalate tensions and restore calm.”
“We remain extremely concerned by the continuing violence and we urge all sides to avoid further escalation,” White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said.
Since 1948, the U.S. has provided Israel with over $125 billion in military aid, which transformed the Israeli forces and police into one of the world’s top forces. Israel has been designated as a U.S. Major Non-NATO Ally, and yet the U.S. has never once held Israel accountable for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the apartheid state in Israel.
With its silence, the U.S. stands complicit in the crimes against the Palestinian people who are deprived of every human right.
Turkey
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the Israeli police raid, calling such acts in the mosque compound a “red line” for Turkey.
“I condemn the vile acts against the first qibla of Muslims in the name of my country and people, and I call for the attacks to be halted as soon as possible,” Erdogan said. “The name of this is the politics of repression, the politics of blood, the politics of provocation. Turkey can never remain silent and unmoved in the face of these attacks.
Canada
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “We need to see the Israeli government shifting in its approach, and Canada is saying that as a dear and close and steadfast friend to Israel, we are deeply concerned about the direction that the Israeli government has been taking.”
UAE
The UAE foreign ministry said in a statement, “The UAE called on Israeli authorities to halt escalation and avoid exacerbating tension and instability in the region.”
Saudi-Iran agreement
The recent restoration of full diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia has changed the Middle East. Now, the two biggest powerhouses in the region have put differences aside and are willing to work together for peace and security. Neither nation has normalized a relationship with Israel, even though Netanyahu stated in December 2022 that getting a deal with Saudi Arabia was one of the two biggest goals of his new administration.
The U.S. has not offered any leadership for decades on an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan. In the meantime, the U.S. has slipped from global leadership, especially from the days of influence in the Middle East, since the area has turned independent of dictates from the Oval Office.
Lavrov, like Zakharova, is doing his job. He is making Russia’s case and, if NATO want to laugh, so be it.
NATO’s media recently had a jolly good giggle highlighting an Indian audience laughing at a recent presentation Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov gave in New Delhi. Lavrov’s apparent faux pas was in saying Russia, far from being the aggressor in Ukraine, instead responded to years of attacks on the Russian speakers of the Donbas. If, instead of watching NATO’s doctored clip of the talk, we watch the entire presentation, we see that Lavrov handled himself very well and the laughter, which occurs at 28:50, is probably as much to do with the modalities of the presentation and that Lavrov is less proficient in English than he is in French, Dhivehi, Sinhala and the Russian language itself, which is amongst the core targets of this unconscionable war.
Either way, Lavrov can be pleased enough with his performance and, if some NATO clowns got a laugh out of it, so much the better. Lavrov, Zakharova and their crew have been solid performers and their arguments, made on behalf of the Russian authorities, are always worth a listen for those of us with functioning brains.
This is so even though Lavrov’s New Delhi speech falls just short of perfection. At 13:07, for example, Lavrov asks “Can you imagine, for example, in Ireland, they cancelled the English language?” If Lavrov cares to read up on Irish history, he will see that the British, as part of their Penal Laws, cancelled the Irish language as well as the Irish Catholic religion and Irish property rights and, as in Donbas, that those wrongs still fester with those of us who don’t have a NATO price tag sticking out of our ears.
Although Zakharova stumbled on a similar fence when she referenced the deliberate slaughter of Irish Catholic children by the British Army in the northern part of the island, given the blanket censorship and mini army of Quislings the British used to prosecute their dirty war, her less than perfect knowledge on those events is to be expected; it is par for the course and, in itself, is no big deal.
The point here is that Zelensky’s terror campaign is neither new nor novel and it has precedents not only in Ireland but throughout the former Third Reich as well. All of that should be a given. We should not have to waste time trying to find streaks of grey, silver linings in the crimes of the Kiev criminals.
And nor, of course, should Lavrov or Zakharova. But that, unfortunately, is their job, forever slopping out, with nothing bigger than an egg cup, NATO’s oceans of lies that forever flood our media.
Irish MEPs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace find themselves adrift in the same leaky boat, with waves of NATO lies, innuendos and smears crashing in on them, much like the Atlantic’s waves that pound Ireland’s Western shores. Although I have previously written about their travails, controversial Irish MEP Barry Andrews, who has an umbilical link with NATO, is now hot on their case, calling them all sorts of school-yard slurs for not being on NATO’s payroll.
Being independent-minded means, according to the CIA, that Daly and Wallace are Putin puppets. Though that is certainly what this dodgy American think tank is implying about Wallace and Daly, its real relevance is that people in Ireland are being paid to help these Americans defame them, as some of the phrases used could only have come from embedded Irish sources, the Navalnys, Quislings and Bialiatskis of the Emerald Isle.
The relevance of that is the Yanks are not straight shooters. Whether it is Ireland or India, Moscow or Minsk, Kiev or Kenya, New Delhi or New York, they have armies of hirelings, heel-of-the-shoe flotsam, paid to help them spread their toxins. This is not to build altars to Lavrov, Zakharova, Wallace or Daly but to say this is where we are, dealing with NATO’s serial liars, whose signatures on Minsk and other agreements are meaningless, who regard Russian journalists and German pipelines as legitimate targets and who are, in short, the most amoral, untrustworthy and despicable of creatures.
On the subject of amorality, let’s look at where I fell as short on the recent Syrian earthquake as Lavrov did on Ireland’s language question. When the U.S., like some gout-ridden Caesar of old, gave us a 180-day window to send aid to Syrian children, I naively thought the Americans and their Israeli sidekicks would leave off bombing Syria until almost the end of that grace period. But then, I mistook the Israeli and American militaries for something less demonic.

On the subject of substantial donations, note that, years ago, the Russian air force offered to air lift shipments of donated baby milk powder, diapers and similar goods from Dublin to Damascus gratis but that the oh so humanitarian government of Andrews et al vetoed it, no doubt having first consulted “our American partners”, who are now imposing on Syria the same sort of diaper and calorie counting Belsen regime Israel racks Gaza with.
Let’s just think about that for an Auschwitz moment. As another Easter looms on Syria’s near horizon, our silent complicity starves Syrians to death as “our American partners” rob their oil and food and deny their infants baby milk powder and diapers. We are no better than those Israelis who bring armchairs with them to watch their Luftwaffe strafe Gaza when they are not forcing pregnant Palestinian women to die at their checkpoints.
But then we, who scoff at Lavrov, along with our “our American partners,” may not be as morally omnipotent as we think. As for Lavrov, he let the laughs pass him by before finishing his presentation.
Lavrov, like Zakharova, is doing his job. He is making Russia’s case and, if NATO want to laugh, so be it, let them laugh and enjoy their laughter as much as they like. Not only are General Gerasimov and the hundreds of thousands of tooled-up Russian troops he has at the ready no laughing matter but they and their Asian allies are going to wipe those smirks from the faces of Hunter Biden, Zelensky and his coked-up chorus of NATO politicians, propagandists and profiteers, who would have been much better off listening to Lavrov rather than showing their pig ignorance by laughing at their 20 second clip of his 31 minute talk.
The leaked intel might be advantageous to Russia were this not to be misdirection: and the possibility is quite real, Pepe Escobar writes.
The script reads like a spoof straight out of legendary Mad magazine 1960’s cartoon “Spy vs. Spy”: Secret Pentagon Documents Fall in the Hands of Malign Russia. Well, actually in the hands of millions accessing Twitter and Telegram.
So here, at face value, we have a major leak essentially detailing Pentagon planning for the next stage of the NATO vs. Russia proxy war in Ukraine: the interminably debated Spring “counter-offensive” that may, or may not, start in mid-April, as well as war plans shared with FVEY – the Five Eyes.
The leaked intel might – and the operative word is “might” – be advantageous to Russia were this not to be misdirection: and the possibility is quite real.
The inestimable Ray McGovern, who knows one or two things about the CIA, noted whether the Pentagon is “falsifying kill-ratio to gild Easter lilies in Kyiv? Recent leak of an apparently official NATO document shows 71,500 Ukrainians KIA and only 16,000 to 17,500 Russians, a far cry from earlier Pentagon ‘estimates’. All sounds so Vietnam-déjà vu!”
So this may be Vietnam all over again – never count on the Pentagon learning from their mistakes – but could be something way more alarming, according to a top Beltway intel source, retired: “Our interpretation of this breach is that intel sources in the United States have released critical intel data in order to avoid a nuclear war with Russia.”
As it stands, the only certainty is that the spin war has gone berserk. So the leaker may have been a – disgruntled – U.S. insider. No, wait: the whole thing may be fake, as the Pentagon insists. In spin speak, that would be an attempt to “spread false information that could harm the U.S.”.
Tweaked or not, the “secret” Pentagon comparative war dead ratio between Russians and Ukrainians still does not make sense. The numbers appear to reflect Bakhmut/Artemovsk casualties, where Russian casualty ratios were highest. Yet reliable on the ground Russian military correspondents assure the ratio is really 10 to 1, with the Russians employing the snail technique combined with a formidable artillery mincing machine.
“Stupefying” incompetence
The undisputable conclusion out of the – real or fake – Pentagon leaks is that the U.S. is in a state of war against Russia. And that is serious enough.
Washington has been feeding information non-stop on command posts, ammunition depots and key nodes in the Russian military lines. It’s such real-time intel that has allowed Kiev to target Russian forces, kill senior generals and force ammunition depots to be moved farther from the Russian front lines.
Anything Pentagon/NATO stenographers say about Kiev playing the proverbial “decisive role” in planning and executing these strikes is a lie. The U.S. exercizes total, absolute control of the Ukraine war on a central command basis. Including from that “secret” underground bunker near Lviv which recently received a business card from Mr. Khinzal and has gone to meet its maker – along with over 200 NATO high-level operatives.
Fake or not fake, we also have confirmation that the Pentagon has direct access to communications of the Russian Ministry of Defense. And that the Americans listen to everyone and his neighbor: the sweaty T-shirt actor in Kiev, all the Five Eyes allies, and the Mossad.
As for the notion that Kiev has changed its counter-offensive “military plans” because of the Pentagon leaks, everyone should feel free to control the pitch of their roaring laughter.
The Russian non-response response to all this hoopla could be seen as a classic of misdirection. Responding to the U.S. de facto engaged in an undeclared war against Russia, much hotter than Hybrid, President Putin said that Russia is interested in “peaceful coexistence with the U.S. and establishing a balance of interests” given their status as the world’s two biggest nuclear powers.
Well, no one can possibly imagine Stalin saying that Russia was interested in peaceful coexistence with Nazi Germany in July, 1941 as the Wehrmacht was rushing towards Moscow, Leningrad and the Caucusus oil.
From the point of view of valuable military information, the indispensable Andrei Martyanov summed it all up: these “documents” contain none, apart from confirming that the Pentagon is absolutely clueless on the SMO: why is it happening, what is the modus operandi and what it plans to achieve.
As Martyanov stresses, Russia maneuvers an extremely advanced ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) complex, including human intel on the ground, electronic warfare and satellite constellations: “In terms of war correlates and combat statistics – I wouldn’t touch anything coming from Pentagon with a long stick.”
There are indeed several serious issues with the Pentagon “top secret” intel. It oozes the impression it was redacted based on open data, and not actual intel. And all that packaged by some quite shoddy work.
For instance, the insistence to “re-equip” Ukrainian air defense with missiles is not supported by data on where such missiles will be coming from. The name of the NASAMS – the middle range, ground based air defense system co-developed by Raytheon – is misspelled.
In official NATO documents, weapons from the USSR and from Russia are indicated in NATO codification. There is no style uniformity: it’s a messy mix of official code designations and transliterations from Russian into English.
So no wonder the impression is solidified that the U.S. Army Command in Europe (EUCOM) got their “intel” from open sources, and is absolutely clueless on how many weapons, how much equipment and how many people the Ukrainians actually have.
And that explains what’s going on in Artemovsk – with the Russians taking all the time in the world to calibrate their strategic defense, and after the orderly abandon of Kherson, lure the Ukrainians into a non-stop slaughterhouse. Martyanov qualifies U.S./NATO incompetence to see it coming as “stupefying.”
A do-or-die war to control Eurasia
Once again: the most important consequence of the Pentagon leaks is to establish that the U.S., de facto and de jure, is at war against Russia – whatever may be the spin by that Norwegian piece of dead wood in Brussels. Russia will establish a war crimes tribunal for Ukraine, so sooner rather than later, selected collective West luminaries better take refuge in their New Zealand bunkers.
It’s also crucial to always keep in mind Ukraine is a mere pawn in their game for not losing world power, against China, Russia and potentially Germany.
The initial psycho Straussian neocon goal was to cut off Germany from Russia using “Liver Sausage” Chancellor Scholz, who was briefed in advance on the terror attack on the Nord Streams.
Scholz was also involved in the CIA misdirection scam, channeling the blame for the terror attack on some obscure Ukrainian “dissident” and a bumbling yacht – as brilliantly covered by Seymour Hersh.
The next step is to cut off Ukraine from Russia – “reconquering” Crimea, the focus of the current P.R. blitzkrieg, and Donbass, thus originating a cataclysmic psychological upheaval in Russia leading to a Putin regime change.
Then the Straussians would finally command Russia’s massive natural resources – and block them from China by land and by sea via the U.S. Fleet.
That’s not exactly clever – but Straussian neocons do revel in their own intellectually shallow pond. Cue to that insufferable idiot Admiral John Kirby saying there can be no negotiations with Russia until they leave Ukraine, abandoning Donbass and Crimea.
So the (show) war in Ukraine must go on, to the last Ukrainian, or all these elaborate plans will irretrievably bite the dust. This is a do-or-die war against Russia-China for the control of Eurasia. Will that imply more Pentagon leaks? Bring them on.
