Will Putin ein Imperium errichten – oder die Souveränität und Existenz Russlands sichern? Diese Frage, von deren Antwort die Bewertung des Krieges abhängt, wird in den großen Medien weiterhin kaum diskutiert. Wohl, weil jeder die Antwort schon zu kennen glaubt. Doch diese Gewissheit kann politisch verheerend sein. Eine Spurensuche.
Am 27. Februar 2022, drei Tage nach Kriegsbeginn, erklärte Bundeskanzler Scholz im Bundestag (Video), dass der russische Präsident den Angriff gegen die Ukraine „aus einem einzigen Grund“ führe: „Die Freiheit der Ukrainerinnen und Ukrainer stellt sein eigenes Unterdrückungsregime infrage.“ Putin wolle daher „ein unabhängiges Land von der Weltkarte tilgen“, „die Verhältnisse in Europa nach seinen Vorstellungen grundlegend neu ordnen“ und „ein russisches Imperium errichten“.
Auf dieser Argumentation des Bundeskanzlers fußt die deutsche Politik seither, die in dieser Woche schließlich in dem Beschluss kulminierte, nun doch schwere Kampfpanzer an die Ukraine zu liefern. Deutsche Panzer rollen wieder gegen Russland, wie zuletzt in den Jahren 1941 bis 1945.
Die Scholzsche Argumentation steht im Einklang mit der Interpretation der USA, sie gleicht ihr bis aufs Wort. Sie ist jedoch schlecht bis gar nicht belegt. John Mearsheimer, Jahrgang 1947 und einer der international renommiertesten Politikwissenschaftler, hat darauf im Juni 2022 in einem ausführlichen Essay :
„[Putin] werden imperiale Ambitionen nachgesagt – er wolle die Ukraine und andere Länder erobern, um ein Großrussland zu schaffen, das eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit mit der ehemaligen Sowjetunion aufweist. Mit anderen Worten: Die Ukraine ist Putins erstes Ziel, aber nicht sein letztes. (…) Dieses Narrativ wird zwar immer wieder in den Mainstream-Medien und von praktisch allen westlichen Staatsoberhäuptern wiederholt, aber es gibt keine Beweise dafür. (…) Um zu belegen, dass Putin die gesamte Ukraine erobern und Russland einverleiben wollte, muss erstens nachgewiesen werden, dass er dies für ein erstrebenswertes Ziel hielt, zweitens, dass er es für ein realisierbares Ziel hielt, und drittens, dass er dieses Ziel zu verfolgen beabsichtigte. Es gibt keine Beweise dafür, dass Putin am 24. Februar, als er seine Truppen in die Ukraine schickte, in Erwägung zog, geschweige denn beabsichtigte, die Ukraine als unabhängigen Staat zu beenden und sie zu einem Teil von Großrussland zu machen. (…)
Man könnte argumentieren, dass Putin über seine Motive gelogen hat, dass er versucht hat, seine imperialen Ambitionen zu verschleiern. Ich habe ein Buch über Lügen in der internationalen Politik geschrieben und für mich ist klar, dass Putin nicht gelogen hat. Eine meiner wichtigsten Erkenntnisse ist, dass Staatsoberhäupter sich nicht oft gegenseitig anlügen, sondern eher ihre eigene Bevölkerung. Was Putin anbelangt, so ist er, was auch immer man von ihm halten mag, nicht dafür bekannt, andere Staatsführer zu belügen. Obwohl einige behaupten, dass er häufig lügt und man ihm nicht trauen könne, gibt es kaum Beweise dafür, dass er ausländische Zuhörer belogen hat. (…) Er hat nicht ein einziges Mal angedeutet, dass er die Ukraine zu einem Teil Russlands machen will. Sollte dieses Verhalten Teil einer gigantischen Täuschungskampagne sein, so wäre dies ohne Beispiel in der Geschichte. (…)
Erst als im Februar 2014 die Ukraine-Krise ausbrach, begannen die Vereinigten Staaten und ihre Verbündeten plötzlich, Putin als gefährlichen Führer mit imperialen Ambitionen und Russland als ernsthafte militärische Bedrohung zu bezeichnen, die es einzudämmen gelte. Was hat diese Verschiebung verursacht? Diese neue Rhetorik sollte einem wesentlichen Zweck dienen: den Westen in die Lage zu versetzen, Putin für den Ausbruch der Unruhen in der Ukraine verantwortlich zu machen. Und jetzt, da sich die Krise in einen ausgewachsenen Krieg verwandelt hat, muss unbedingt sichergestellt werden, dass er allein für diese katastrophale Wendung der Ereignisse verantwortlich gemacht wird. Dieses Schuldzuweisungsspiel erklärt, warum Putin heute hier im Westen weithin als Imperialist dargestellt wird, obwohl es kaum Beweise gibt, die diese Perspektive stützen.“
Mearsheimers Erörterungen wurden von den großen Medien in Deutschland nahezu vollständig ignoriert – also nicht etwa angegriffen oder gar widerlegt, sondern schlicht totgeschwiegen. Einer der wenigen amtierenden Akteure, der aus dieser Phalanx ausbrach, war der französische Staatspräsident Macron, der Anfang Dezember 2022 erstmals forderte, Russland Sicherheitsgarantien zu geben und so zu einem Friedensschluss zu kommen:
„Einer der wesentlichen Punkte, auf die wir eingehen müssen, (…) ist die Furcht, dass die NATO an die Türen Russlands heranrückt, und die Stationierung von Waffen, die Russland bedrohen könnten. (…) Deswegen müssen wir ausarbeiten, wozu wir bereit sind, wie wir unsere Partner und Mitgliedstaaten schützen – und wie wir Russland Garantien geben, sobald es an den Verhandlungstisch zurückkehrt.“
Macrons Aussage bedroht das herrschende westliche Erklärungsmuster im Kern. Wenn es gerechtfertigt, ja sogar geboten ist, Russland Sicherheitsgarantien zu geben, dann folgt daraus, dass eine existenzielle Bedrohung Russlands durch die NATO keine Fantasie Putins ist – wie gemeinhin in Politik und Medien erklärt –, sondern faktische Realität. Es folgt daraus dann auch, dass Putins Feldzug gegen die Ukraine tatsächlich mit russischen Sicherheitsinteressen zu erklären ist, und nicht mit etwaigen imperialen Ambitionen.
Wenig überraschend wurde Macrons Vorstoß umgehend unter Beschuss genommen. Beispielhaft reagierte der außenpolitische Sprecher der SPD-Bundestagsfraktion, Nils Schmid:
„Die Worte Macrons verwundern. Die Nato hat zu keinem Zeitpunkt Russland bedroht (…) Solange Russland eine imperialistische Außenpolitik verfolgt, ist eine gesamteuropäische Friedensordnung unter Einschluss Russlands nicht möglich.“
Macron verfolgte seinen Vorschlag nicht weiter, sondern reihte sich wieder in die NATO-Position ein und kündigte Anfang Januar Panzerlieferungen an die Ukraine an.
Putin selbst hatte am Tage des Kriegsbeginns die Motivlage Russlands so erläutert:
„Ich beziehe mich auf das, was uns besonders beunruhigt und besorgt, die fundamentalen Bedrohungen, die Schritt für Schritt, Jahr für Jahr, von unverantwortlichen Politikern im Westen gegen unser Land gerichtet werden. Ich beziehe mich auf die Ausdehnung des NATO-Blocks nach Osten, auf die Nähe seiner militärischen Infrastruktur zu den Grenzen Russlands. Es ist bekannt, dass wir seit 30 Jahren hartnäckig und geduldig versuchen, mit den führenden NATO-Ländern eine Einigung über die Grundsätze der gleichen und unteilbaren Sicherheit in Europa zu erzielen. Als Antwort auf unsere Vorschläge sind wir immer wieder entweder auf zynische Täuschungen und Lügen oder auf Druck und Erpressungsversuche gestoßen, während sich das Nordatlantische Bündnis trotz all unserer Proteste und Bedenken immer weiter ausdehnt. Die Kriegsmaschinerie ist in Bewegung und, ich wiederhole das, sie kommt sehr nahe an unsere Grenzen heran. (…)
Trotz allem haben wir im Dezember 2021 erneut versucht, mit den USA und ihren Verbündeten eine Einigung über die Sicherheitsgrundsätze in Europa und über die Nichterweiterung der NATO zu erzielen. Alles umsonst. Der Standpunkt der USA hat sich nicht geändert. Sie halten eine Einigung mit Russland in dieser für uns wichtigen Frage nicht für notwendig, sie verfolgen ihre eigenen Ziele und setzen sich über unsere Interessen hinweg.
Und natürlich stellt sich in dieser Situation die Frage: Was ist als nächstes zu tun, was ist zu erwarten? Wir wissen aus der Geschichte, dass die Sowjetunion 1940 und Anfang 1941 alles getan hat, um den Ausbruch des Krieges zu verhindern oder zumindest zu verzögern. Dazu gehört auch, dass man buchstäblich bis zur letzten Minute versucht, den potenziellen Angreifer nicht zu provozieren, indem man die notwendigsten und naheliegendsten Schritte zur Vorbereitung auf die Abwehr des unvermeidlichen Angriffs nicht durchgeführt oder aufgeschoben hat. Und die Schritte, die schließlich unternommen wurden, waren katastrophal verspätet.
Infolgedessen war das Land auf den Einmarsch Nazi-Deutschlands, das am 22. Juni 1941 ohne Kriegserklärung unser Land angriff, nicht vollständig vorbereitet. Der Feind konnte gestoppt und dann vernichtet werden, allerdings zu einem kolossalen Preis. Der Versuch, dem Aggressor am Vorabend des Großen Vaterländischen Krieges zu gefallen, war ein Fehler, der unser Volk teuer zu stehen kam. In den ersten Monaten der Kämpfe haben wir große, strategisch wichtige Gebiete und Millionen von Menschen verloren. Wir werden einen solchen Fehler nicht ein zweites Mal machen, dazu haben wir kein Recht. (…)
Das Problem besteht darin, dass auf den an uns angrenzenden Gebieten – wohlgemerkt auf unseren eigenen historischen Territorien – ein ‘Anti-Russland’ geschaffen wird, das unter vollständige Kontrolle des Auslandes gestellt, von den Streitkräften der NATO-Länder intensiv entwickelt und mit den modernsten Waffen vollgepumpt wird. Für die USA und ihre Verbündeten ist die sogenannte Politik der Eindämmung Russlands eine offensichtliche geopolitische Dividende. Für unser Land ist es jedoch letztlich eine Frage von Leben und Tod, eine Frage unserer historischen Zukunft als Nation. Und das ist keine Übertreibung – so ist es nun einmal. Das ist eine echte Bedrohung nicht nur für unsere Interessen, sondern für die Existenz unseres Staates und seine Souveränität. Das ist die rote Linie, über die immer wieder gesprochen wurde. Sie haben sie überschritten. (…)
Bei den heutigen Ereignissen geht es nicht darum, die Interessen der Ukraine und des ukrainischen Volkes zu verletzen. Es geht darum, Russland selbst vor denen zu schützen, die die Ukraine als Geisel genommen haben und versuchen, sie gegen unser Land und seine Bevölkerung einzusetzen.“
Wie auch immer man zu Putin steht: Früher oder später wird es Verhandlungen der USA mit Russland geben – zumindest, sofern der Konflikt nicht in einen Krieg mit Atomwaffen ausarten und große Teile der Welt unbewohnbar machen sollte. In diesen anstehenden Verhandlungen werden die von Putin genannten Punkte diskutiert werden – so wie Macron es im Dezember 2022 vorschlug. Das Ignorieren dieser Punkte ist denn auch der argumentative Schwachpunkt der westlichen Seite: Wenn der Westen, insbesondere die USA, Russland tatsächlich nicht angreifen, schädigen und schwächen wollen – wie sie es bis zum Beginn des Krieges behaupteten –, warum ist es dann unmöglich, dem Land schriftliche Sicherheitsgarantien zu geben und durch praktische Schritte die eigenen guten Absichten glaubhaft zu machen?
Dieser Schwachpunkt wird seit dem 24. Februar 2022 durch ein Übermaß an Rhetorik verdeckt. Man müsse doch der Ukraine gegen den Angriff beistehen, könne solches Unrecht keinesfalls hinnehmen etc. Doch eine solche wohlmeinende Rhetorik hilft allenfalls, sich seiner selbst zu versichern. Sie löst keine Konflikte. Russlands erklärte Interessen zu ignorieren oder offen abzulehnen heißt praktisch nichts anderes als das Land selbst abzulehnen und es der eigenen, westlichen Macht kategorisch unterordnen zu wollen.
Dazu aber, so sollte ein aufgeschlossener Beobachter inzwischen konstatieren können, ist dieses Land nicht nur zu groß und durch seine Rohstoffe zu vermögend, sondern auch international – zumindest abseits der westlichen Kriegsallianz von Washington über London bis Warschau und Vilnius – zu respektiert.
Der fortdauernde Krieg, der sich mit jedem Monat ausweitet und in den Deutschland sich immer unheilvoller verstrickt, wird am Ende den Westen selbst für Jahre und Jahrzehnte kompromittieren und schädigen – selbst wenn die USA und ihre Alliierten ihn „gewönnen“. Eine Verherrlichung des Militarismus, wie aktuell zu beobachten, führt in keine frohe Zukunft, im Gegenteil. Die nun – unter dem Beifall von Grünen, FDP und CDU, aber abseits jedes Parlamentsbeschlusses – dekretierten Panzerlieferungen weisen jedenfalls einen Weg, den Deutschland schon einmal ging – und der direkt in seinen Untergang führte.

Continental Communiqué in Solidarity with the Haitian People
The consensus reached by the governments of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) with respect to Haiti, at the conclusion of their recent Summit in Buenos Aires, provokes deep indignation among the patriots of Haiti and of all of Our America. We reject it and urge the member countries to rectify it, based on what was stated by CELAC Social which demanded that the region “give its own response to the Haitian issue, respecting the principle of non-intervention and the right of the people of Haiti to sovereignly define their destiny”, and the Message to the governments of CELAC sent by solidarity organizations and networks of the region.[1] We reject what has been done and what has not been done.
We reject what has been done and what has been declared by the CELAC governments on Haiti, because they reinforce the fallacious claim that an unconstitutional and illegal government, led by a usurper and dictator prime minister, is legitimate. It was not elected by the people but imposed by the nefarious “Core Group” of countries and international organizations. In fact, there is no elected authority left in Haiti; there is no Parliament, Ariel Henry is illegal and illegitimate. The popular rejection of this character and his government is overwhelming and he should not have been invited if respect for the Haitian people had really prevailed within CELAC.
The Declaration states, among other points:
…We welcome the signing on 21/12/22 of the document entitled ‘National Consensus for an Inclusive Transition and Transparent Elections’… We urge the government to continue with its policy of openness towards the various sectors of national life, with a view to making democratic institutions operational as soon as possible… We encourage member countries… to study the options presented by the UN Secretary General… We encourage member countries… to study the options presented by the Secretary General of the UN… to participate in the process of the elections. UU…. with a view to participating in the specialized multinational force requested by Haiti…We recognize the need to reach consensus at the regional and extraregional level, based on the principle of regional cooperation, with the consent and participation of the Republic of Haiti.[2] We do not accept that the Republic of Haiti is recognized as a member of the United Nations….
We reject the de facto government’s recognition as having a policy of “openness” and “search for consensus” when the opposite is the case. It is especially outrageous that CELAC applauds the scandalous “National Consensus for a Transition…”, signed at the end of the year by Henry and other deliverers. Plagued with inconsistencies, lies, even false signatures, it does not propose any rupture with the current system of neocolonial domination and the immense majority of social, political, religious, cultural and business organizations of the country have rejected it. Its “High Transitional Council”, in fact, was stillborn.
Among other barbarities, this false “Consensus” proposes to change the Constitution to facilitate a greater control of state power by the President of the Republic, in order to achieve an easier submission to the orders of imperialism and its agents and to allow the plundering of Haitian wealth without any legal obstacles. It should be recalled that this agreement is opposed to the consensus built among hundreds of organizations which do represent the vast majority of the population and which proposes a sovereign way out, a transitional government without any foreign interference, which is the Montana Agreement.
To support Ariel Henry and endorse a new military intervention in Haiti, as the CELAC declaration implies, is more than a disastrous and regrettable political mistake.
Are the governments of Our America unaware of the disastrous and tragic consequences for the Haitian people of all the previous interventions?
As a matter of fact, between 2004 and 2017, the UN Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti (MINUSTAH) perpetrated massacres in popular neighborhoods; raping of girls, women and young people; introduced cholera that killed tens of thousands of Haitians and left more than 800,000 infected; manipulated elections to impose miscreant rulers, so-called legal bandits; generalized corruption, etc.
Since 1993, Haiti was occupied 13 times, and all those interventions did not improve the situation, but on the contrary, worsened it. Their mentors and executors are mainly responsible for the current dreadful crisis where, for example, more than 4 million people are suffering from severe famine.
Encouraging CELAC member countries to be part of the new multilateral military intervention force that the U.S. so publicly promotes, is a direct trampling on the rights and dignity of the Haitian people and disregards the principle of non-intervention so dear to all the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Undoubtedly, all this is happening under the orders of the “Core Group”, the real power in Haiti. Ariel Henry is a criminal, a vassal at the service of imperial power, who seeks to remain in government in the midst of the decomposition of the neocolonial system in place since the first U.S. military occupation of Haiti (1915-1934), and in spite of a strong and heroic popular resistance.
It is a fierce struggle where the Haitian people want to recover their sovereignty and their right to self-determination. They want to break definitively with the international tutelage managed by the UN and directed by U.S. imperialism with its allies both internal and external. It also seeks to destroy the power of the PHTK party, which has been running the country since the fraudulent elections of 2010-2011, mainly as a result of a decision of the Clinton family.
Through kidnappings, assassinations, massacres, the proliferation of armed gangs composed of hired killers developing an insane action against the population, this party aspires to perpetuate itself in power through fraudulent elections that Ariel Henry and his accomplices plan to organize this year 2023. It is necessary to underline that Henry was a minister during the first PHTK government.
We are not unaware that the people of Haiti are being subjected to a situation of serious insecurity. But it is worth paying attention to what the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights pointed out last January 26, in the midst of police protests, when it said that it “has strong reasons to believe that the accelerated deterioration of the security situation in the country, after a few days of calm, is intended to justify and obtain from the international community the deployment of a foreign military force in Haiti.…”.
However, in spite of everything, we have full confidence in the capacity of resistance and struggle of the Haitian people and in the solidarity of the true patriots of Our America to put an end to the neocolonial system still in force.
219 years after the triumph of the Haitian revolution, and 37 years after the end of the Duvalier dictatorship, we believe that it is time to organize a new meeting between Haiti and the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, capable of repairing the tragedies caused by MINUSTAH and the whole racist, patriarchal system of plunder and violent intervention of the imperialist powers. For this purpose we invite to unite popular forces, and we urge CELAC, and especially its new president pro tempore, to support this democratic, decolonizing, independent and sovereign solution.

Ukrainian forces are unlikely to be able to recapture Crimea from Russian troops in the near future, four senior Defense Department officials told House Armed Services Committee lawmakers in a classified briefing. The assessment is sure to frustrate leaders in Kyiv who consider taking the peninsula back one of their signature goals.
The American military industrial complex was stunned and embarrassed by the rapid fall of its puppet government in Saigon in 1975. The CIA faced budget cuts and sought a new conflict to justify its size and spending. Portugal had just freed its colonies so there were power struggles in nations such as Angola. The American public was not told that the CIA had begun shipping arms to Angola and hiring mercenaries to fight there. Once news reports about CIA involvement appeared, the effort was spun as a fight against evil communists
In the face of increasing tensions between the U.S. and China, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has called for more cooperation and allies in the Indo-Pacific region. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused NATO of wanting to “defeat” Russia, accusing the NATO-backed Ukraine regime of having no “independence” and only acting as a proxy for Western powers. NATO is trying to recruit more allies and build up forces in Europe and the Indo-Pacific, while Russia and China have formed an alliance, strengthening their power and creating another obstacle for the U.S.-led alliance. As the U.S. and its NATO allies prepare for war, questions are being raised about the potential consequences, with some suggesting that politicians may be using it as a way to gain control over the population and advance their globalist agenda.

NATO should stop their Pontius Pilate hand-wringing about sending their upgraded Tiger tanks to Ukraine’s wrecking yards as they are damned whether they throw good tanks after bad, or if they do not. The best NATO can do is to form a line of defense stretching from the brothels of Romania in the south up through Poland’s and onwards to the pimple states of the Baltic and the big mouthed women leaders of Sweden and Finland. Ukraine, like Vietnam and Afghanistan before it, is a lost cause. NATO should end this war by packing its bags, going home and allowing Zelensky’s thugs await their fate on their own.
The Americans can send their Bradleys, the British their Challenger tanks, the French their Leclercs and the Germans their Leopards. Russia will destroy all of them and all crews unfortunate enough to man them. If Hitler’s Tigers could not stop the Russian tide, nor will they.
Though the British can boast to their hearts’ content about their invincible Challengers, those British wunderwaffe weapons will break down and need repair when they reach Ukraine’s killing fields. That is assuming Russia does not send them to Hades before they first see action. Showcasing your wunderwaffe weapons in Ukraine is one thing. Prevailing, as the Wehrmacht discovered, is another.
No plan, the legendary German Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke declared in his 1871 ‘Ueber Strategy’ On Strategy essay, survives its first contact with the enemy. This will certainly be the case with NATO’s Tigers, which will fare as poorly as the Wehrmacht’s tanks did at Stalingrad and at Kursk, history’s biggest ever tank battle, when von Manstein, von Kluge and some of the Reich’s other great commanders faced Zhukov, Popov and their endless columns of T34s, which were more suited to Ukraine’s terrain than were the Reich’s wunderwaffe tanks, the Challengers, Leopards, Bradleys and Leclercs of their day.
The Germans at Stalingrad, Kursk and Normandy suffered from a number of disadvantages, many of which remain relevant today. First off, Goebbels’ relentless propaganda to hold fast until the tides would magically turn foreshadows today’s 24/7 tripe that tells us that Russia is on its knees and can be finished off with a couple of sharp, NATO directed blows to her vulnerable regions.
MI5’s Kyiv (sic) Independent (sic) leads the field in this regard. To read their tripe, the Russian forces in Ukraine are nothing Estonia or Slovakia could not extirpate in a wet weekend. Russia is just an obese teddy bear, only waiting to have its guts ripped out and its innards hacked from it, as a butcher’s knife would sunder apart a dead pig.
Though most of NATO’s psychotic media would like Russia to be hacked to shreds on the old principle that if it bleeds it leads, that process has accelerated from NATO’s illegal invasion of Iraq, where the West’s journalists were not only embedded with the U.S. military but exulted in their crimes, as well as those of Blackwater and those other privatized firms that were, like James Bond, issued with licences to kill, rape and plunder as the fancy took them. Though NATO’s media and not just the jokers of the Kyiv Independent should be answerable for that, they deserve plenty of company in the dock.
Chief of their co-defendants should be hucksters like the Bush and Blair families, grubby profiteers like Haliburton’s Cheney family and Pinocchios like Merkel and Hollande, whose outright lies over the Minsk Accord has led Ukraine into hell. Until such time as political profiteers like them, and the arms companies they are beholden to, pay in full for their crimes and for their rank stupidity, the children of Ukraine, Syria, Yemen, Libya and Iraq will continue to pay with their lives.
But those American and British generals responsible for killing those children or who armed their Azov and ISIS proxies to kill them should also swing, not only for their own culpability but for their crass stupidity as well. These stupid generals know that, from 1945 to 1989, the Soviet Union’s tank regiments were unstoppable and that is why NATO, with no other viable options, had prepared to fight World War Three in southern Germany and Czechoslovakia with nuclear weapons.
Given the former Soviet Union’s overwhelming superiority in tank warfare, do they really think Gerasimov and his chums have not picked up a few pointers, that they do not have a few tricks regarding ground warfare up their collective sleeves? Or do they think Gerasimov’s forces are, like Gaddafi’s, awash with weapons they haven’t a clue how to use? If so, they best make their peace with God, as they will be meeting Him very soon.
NATO’s hucksters are drunk on their own hubris. Steeped in the blood of the innocents of Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Yemen, they think their crimes that have so far gone unpunished will yield them bigger profits still in Ukraine. But they are mistaken.
Although NATO has successfully muffled its own peace movements, they have done nothing to weaken Russia, which has recovered from its post-Soviet malaise. If we examine Russia’s firepower, as presented here, it is fearsome. In terms of manpower, airpower, land power, naval power, natural resources, financials, logistics and geography, Russia is a world power one should not rashly pick a totally avoidable fight with, especially a fight that plays to all of Russia’s very considerable strengths.
In terms of tanks, self-propelled artillery and mobile rocket projectors, Russia is the world’s pre-eminent power. The Russians are no push over and any and all British, French, German and American tank crews crossing over into Ukraine best watch out. Should they even consider breaching Russia’s borders, they best get themselves a demographic map, which will tell them that only Moscow and St Petersburg have populations larger than 1,500,000, and therefore Russia’s 143,000,000 citizens, spread out throughout their vast and unconquerable homeland, will crush any force stupid enough to invade, just as the clubs, scythes and swords of their forefathers sent Napoleon’s La Grande Armée to their doom.
Though history will most likely have to repeat itself in Ukraine in something much more horrible than mere farce, those who ignore history’s testimonies are doomed to perish. One such voice from beyond the grave is that of Field Marshall Gerd von Rundstedt, cousin of General Heinrici’s, who served for a staggering 53 years in the armies of the German Empire, the Kingdom of Prussia, the Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany and who picked up more than a trick or two along the way. When presented with Hitler’s plans to repel the Normandy invasion, he scoffed that neither Field Marshal von Moltke The Elder nor Field Marshal von Moltke The Younger would ever have forgiven him for such rank stupidity, were he to implement Hitler’s idiotic plans.
When Hitler refused the pleas of both Rommel and von Rundstedt to immediately evacuate Caen, Field Marshall Kietel, Hitler’s toadyish Chief of Staff, asked von Rundstedt “What shall we do?” Von Rundstedt sharply replied “Macht Schluss mit dem Krieg, ihr Idioten!“ end the war you idiots.
Wise words as relevant today as they were on 30 June, 1944 when von Rundstedt uttered them to Hitler and his fellow idiot. But idiots never listen, not to a von Rundstedt, a Rommel or a Schőnbach as there is too much easy money to be had pandering to those who profit from producing the Challengers, the Bradleys, the Leclercs and the Leopards and who will continue to make them and the fathomless grief they cause as long as idiots like Zelensky and British philanderer Boris Johnson, who has been skulking back in Kiev to prep Zelensky his lines, are listened to.

Does it make any sense to go on fighting? The original word in Serbian that Emir Kusturica is using here has multiple meanings: to go in fighting, struggling, campaigning and there lies Kusturica’s genius in the choice of words among other thing. Do the culture (and) the art make any sense… does Kustendorf make any sense?
Emir Kusturica, the founder and the design creator of Kustendorf Film Festival up on the hills above Mokra Gora, which all day today is being ‘blizzard-swept’, has been years on end frequented by a high number of world renowned creators of cinematography and culture in general, he is thoroughly convinced that anything he does is highly meaningful and he has no intention of giving up on his mission.
“I am absolutely convinced that Culture will triumph. Because if Culture does not triumph, if Art as an integral part of Culture does not triumph, nothing on Earth will survive. The triumph of Art means the triumph of freedom, but freedom is its undeniable part, in the same way the West tends to name ‘the mindset of the Serbs’ and other local peoples. This is a fight for the survival of Orthodox Christianity, and in this struggle therein, Culture is crucial.
Up there on Mećavnik (1) last week, RT Balkan journalist was talking to Emir Kusturica about the end of history, the end of culture and all the burning issues the great world thinkers contemplate on in this day and age, which can mean the end of civilization as we know it, the end of the world and the end of Everything. ‘The end of ‘something’ should ensue, and perhaps the beginning of something new. When we talk about the fear of Armageddon, we in effect mean the restructuring of the world. But right there are vast expanses of new but very powerful lies before humans.

EK: Is there art which is able to save the world? Dostoyevsky asked himself the same question placing beauty at the pedestal. In this moment when we mention Dostoevsky, we should mention ‘the de-Christianization’ of the [Collective] West. We must not forget that Christianity is not a set of abstract goals, ideas and worldviews but the concreteness of God who embodied himself in a human body which does not provide us with the depiction of our life but He is Life. But a human and his/her life pathway are deep-rooted into its time as a wholeness because Man is not merely its material aspect and neither is it only its spiritual aspect nor its mental aspect either. A human is both a spiritual and material being, He is both the spirit / the soul and the body. Many are aware that to be a consumer and a member of the ‘ant colony’ (2), is not the ideal of personal freedom. For religious thinkers the idea prevails that if there is no God, there is no Art; and neither is there freedom because religious sentiments of this sort are the sisterly bond between the two notions: the division into the good and the evil and particularly the struggle against the Evil can preserve Art. The belief in the immortality of an artist and his/her great work is parallel to the belief in eternal soul… and what happens if we do not believe in said notions? What are we up against? Nobody will bother to ask us. We shall be transmuted from organic matter into a non-organic matter – Man, and they are already threatening to do so, and what happens if we in our lifetime forget about Death? I will remind you of a tragicomic ending and the greatest revenge, which await us all in the end. The dying process will entail the pattern which we do not want in as much as we do not want ‘the Colosseum’ (3)we are thrown into, with neither our consent nor our will. We are now entering the end stage, when we are returning to the phenomenon of the new Deadman in the New World Order.
One funeral parlor in New York State has designed and established a ‘wonderful’ method of processing human remains, under the fairy-like title ‘Terramation’, a company which turns the dead bodies of humans into a compost (4) in their ordinary course of business, only to offer the resulting substances for further use for a particular purpose. As part of the introduction of a new order, this US funeral company ‘Return Home’ is doing this as we speak. Pertinent to this, a blogger Elena Kondratieva wrote ‘Asking mankind to return where they came from, this funeral company, in one go, is in fact opening up a new era in human history and it cuts through the Gordian knot of a philosophical and religious nature. Human kind is being offered ‘ the Return Home’, not in an old fashioned coffin with frills and fanfare but in specially equipped containers in the form of ‘compost’. In so doing they confirm the biblical truth about the origin of the first people on Earth out of clay, dust and a sudden self-awareness.
The body of your beloved ‘significant other’ is placed in a half open dish for multiple use with a saucer underneath (the same as with the house pets) filled with alfalfa, straw and sawdust, so as to make sure all the microbes sizzle freely and do their job properly. You will be able to pick and choose your own menu: your mum in your soup, your neighbour in your meatballs (5), your uncle in your fried fish. If you are a picky eater, you can sell the compost to your neighbour who might be needing djubre. Therefore, who wants us to be djubre in our lifetime and after our death ? All those who are hard at work decomposing Art…”

Emir Kusturica here says ‘sarma’, which is a typical Balkan dish but I have translated it as meatballs to communicate his sarcasm in a better, more poignant way.
