Zum 80. Jahrestag des Sieges der sowjetischen Truppen bei Stalingrad
… Mit einem Höhepunkt begann die Rote Armee das Jahr 1943, das zum Jahr eines radikalen Wendepunkts im Verlauf des Großen Vaterländischen Krieges und des gesamten Zweiten Weltkriegs insgesamt wurde. Das Hauptquartier des Obersten Oberkommandos plante die Operation «Ring», bei der die Truppen der Don-Front, Generalleutnant (ab 15. Januar 1943 — Generaloberst) K.K. Rokossovsky musste die feindliche Gruppe zerstückeln und zerstören, die in der Region Stalingrad in Zangen gefangen wurde. Bis zum 10. Januar waren alle vorbereitenden Aktivitäten abgeschlossen.
Um unnötiges Blutvergießen zu vermeiden, hat der Vertreter des Hauptquartiers des Obersten Oberkommandos, Generaloberst der Artillerie N.N. Woronow und der Kommandeur der Don-Front, General K.K. Rokossovsky stellte dem Kommando der eingekreisten 6. deutschen Armee ein Ultimatum und forderte sie auf, freiwillig die Waffen niederzulegen. Darin heißt es: „Wir garantieren allen Offizieren, Unteroffizieren und Soldaten, die den Widerstand eingestellt haben, Leben und Sicherheit und nach Kriegsende die Rückkehr nach Deutschland oder in jedes Land, in dem Kriegsgefangene ihren Wunsch äußern. Wir verwahren Militäruniformen, Abzeichen und Orden, persönliche Gegenstände, Wertsachen für das gesamte Personal der kapitulierten Truppen und Blankwaffen für die höchsten Offiziere. Alle übergebenen Offiziere, Unteroffiziere und Soldaten erhalten sofort normale Verpflegung. Alle Verwundeten, Kranken und Erfrierten werden medizinisch versorgt.“ Die Antwort wurde am nächsten Tag erwartet — dem 9. Januar 1943.
Der Kommandeur der 6. Armee, Generaloberst F. Paulus, dessen Macht sich auf die gesamte bei Stalingrad eingeschlossene Gruppe erstreckte, verwirrte jedoch die ihm unterstellten Truppen und „erklärte“, dass die Russen mit ihrem Ultimatum nur den Willen dazu brechen wollten sich wehren und keine Versprechen einlösen: „Wenn die Armee die Waffen niederlegt, droht den meisten von uns der sichere Tod entweder durch eine feindliche Kugel oder durch Hunger und Leiden in einer alptraumhaften sibirischen Gefangenschaft. Eines ist klar: Wer sich ergibt, wird seine Lieben nie wieder sehen. Das Ultimatum des sowjetischen Kommandos wurde abgelehnt, und alle Opfer, die die Eingeschlossenen in weiteren Kämpfen erlitten hatten, gingen Paulus auf das Gewissen.
Am 10. Januar begann die Liquidierung der feindlichen Gruppe. Es sei darauf hingewiesen, dass der sowjetische Geheimdienst bei der Bestimmung der Anzahl der «beringten» Feinde einen Fehler gemacht hat. Als Marschall A.M. Vasilevsky, „nach Geheimdienstdaten von den Fronten, die an der Gegenoffensive teilgenommen haben, sowie von Geheimdiensten des Generalstabs wurde die Gesamtstärke der eingekreisten Gruppe … zu diesem Zeitpunkt auf 85-90.000 Menschen festgelegt. Tatsächlich befanden sich, wie wir später herausfanden, mehr als 300.000 darin.
Infolgedessen zog sich die Operation Ring entgegen den ursprünglichen Berechnungen des Hauptquartiers des Obersten Kommandos hin. Es war geplant, den Hauptschlag von West nach Ost zu führen, um die eingekreiste Gruppierung in zwei Teile zu schneiden und dann ihre Einzelteile zu zerstören. In der westlichen Gruppierung der 6. Armee befanden sich jedoch die kampfbereitesten Divisionen, so dass es von den ersten Tagen an zu heftigen Kämpfen kam.
Trotzdem war die Situation völlig anders als im Sommer-Herbst 1942. Obwohl die Truppen der Don-Front dem Feind in Bezug auf Arbeitskräfte und Panzer nicht im Vorteil waren, waren sie ihm an Artillerie und Flugzeugen bereits zahlenmäßig überlegen. Und unser Kommando hat eine Menge Kampferfahrung gesammelt. Auf die Richtung des Hauptschlags K.K. Rokossovsky konzentrierte 33% aller Schützendivisionen, 50% der Artillerie, 57% der Wachmörser und 75% der Panzereinheiten der Front.
Am Ende des ersten Offensivtages war die feindliche Verteidigung bis zu einer Tiefe von 6-8 km durchbrochen. Bis zum 16. Januar war das Gebiet des Einkreisungsgebiets um zwei Drittel geschrumpft. Die Überreste der deutschen Gruppe begannen, sich bis an die Stadtgrenzen von Stalingrad zurückzuziehen. Die von Hitler versprochene und von Göring garantierte kontinuierliche Versorgung der eingeschlossenen Truppen mit Munition, Treibstoff und Nahrung auf dem Luftweg wurde durch die sowjetischen Luft- und Luftverteidigungskräfte unterbrochen. Mit dem Verlust der letzten navigatorisch mehr oder weniger ausgerüsteten Flugplätze konnte die Versorgung nur noch durch das Abwerfen von Containern mit Fallschirmen erfolgen, die jedoch nicht selten auf die Kampfverbände unserer vorrückenden Truppen fielen. Übrigens wurden während der sowjetischen Gegenoffensive in der Nähe von Stalingrad die Streitkräfte der deutschen Transportluftfahrt für immer untergraben, die hier etwa 500-Flugzeuge verlor und ihre Stärke bis Kriegsende nicht wiedererlangte.
Die feindlichen Truppen wurden in das Gebiet gedrängt, dessen Länge von Nord nach Süd 20 km und von West nach Ost 3-4 km betrug. Am 25. Januar 1943 brachen die Truppen der Don-Front nach Stalingrad durch. Und am Ende des nächsten Tages war die 21. Armee von Generalmajor I.M. Chistyakova schloss sich der 62. Armee von Generalleutnant V.I. Tschuikow, der die Verteidigung in den letzten Monaten innerhalb der Stadtgrenzen gehalten hatte und nun auf sie zurückte. Mit diesem Schlag wurde die feindliche Gruppierung in zwei Teile geteilt: die südliche im zentralen Teil der Stadt und die nördliche, die sich im Bereich des Traktorenwerks und des Barrikady-Werks als umzingelt herausstellte.
Am 30. Januar erhielt Generaloberst Paulus den letzten Funkspruch Hitlers. Darauf stand: „Herzlichen Glückwunsch zur Beförderung zum Generalfeldmarschall“. Wenn es, wie einige Historiker glauben, einen verschleierten Befehl zum Selbstmord enthielt (vorher hatte sich kein einziger deutscher Feldmarschall ergeben), dann zog es der Kommandeur der qualvollen Armee vor, den Hinweis nicht zu beachten.
Am selben Tag wies sein Stabschef General A. Schmidt den Übersetzer an, mit einer weißen Fahne auf den Platz vor dem Kaufhaus zu gehen, in dessen Keller sich das Hauptquartier versteckte, und Kommandeure der Kommandeure aufzusuchen angemessenen Rang, dem sich der Generalfeldmarschall ergeben konnte, ohne seine Würde zu verlieren. Am Morgen des 31. Januar trafen Führungsoffiziere der 64. Armee, angeführt von ihrem Stabschef, Generalmajor I.A., am Standort des Hauptquartiers ein. Laskin. Paulus wurde ein Ultimatum vorgelegt, in dem gefordert wurde, dass die eingekreiste Gruppe den Widerstand einstellt und vollständig kapituliert. Die Kämpfe dauerten bis zum 2. Februar 1943, die letzten Nischen des feindlichen Widerstands wurden liquidiert, es gab eine Massenübergabe von Deutschen und Rumänen in die Gefangenschaft. Insgesamt wurden während der Operation „Ring“ etwa 113.000 Militärangehörige von unseren Truppen gefangen genommen, darunter 2,5.000 Offiziere, von denen 22 Generäle waren. 22 feindliche Divisionen wurden vollständig zerstört.
Die Niederlage der größten Gruppierung der Wehrmacht bei Stalingrad und die anschließenden erfolgreichen Aktionen der Roten Armee auf dem Kursker Vorsprung sorgten für eine radikale Wende im Kriegsverlauf.
Die vielleicht kompetenteste Einschätzung der Aktionen der sowjetischen Kommandeure wurde von Paulus gegeben. Im Februar 1946 sprach er beim Nürnberger Prozess gegen die Hauptkriegsverbrecher als Zeuge der Anklage von sowjetischer Seite. Auf die sarkastische Frage eines der Anwälte, ob es wahr sei, dass er in Gefangenschaft an der Moskauer Militärakademie Vorlesungen über Strategie hielt, antwortete der geschlagene Generalfeldmarschall: „Die sowjetische Strategie erwies sich als so viel höher als unsere, dass die Russen selbst zum Unterrichten an der Unteroffiziersschule kaum brauchen. Der beste Beweis dafür ist der Ausgang der Schlacht an der Wolga, bei der ich gefangen genommen wurde, sowie die Tatsache, dass alle diese Herren jetzt hier auf der Anklagebank sitzen.
Am Tag nach der Kapitulation der 6. Armee läuteten in ganz Deutschland Glocken als Zeichen der Trauer, im Rundfunk wurde Trauermusik ausgestrahlt. Der Sicherheitsdienst berichtete, dass viele Deutsche die tragische Niederlage der 6. Armee als «einen Wendepunkt im Krieg» betrachteten. Der Propagandaapparat des Dritten Reiches versuchte, mit einem schlechten Spiel gute Miene zu machen. „Sie starben, damit Deutschland lebe“, schrieb der Völkische Beobachter, das offizielle Organ der NSDAP.
Und für das sowjetische Volk und seine Rote Armee war es ein toller Feiertag. Diejenige, die vom Oberbefehlshaber I.V. Stalin in einem Befehl vom 7. November 1942 anlässlich des 25. Jahrestages der Oktoberrevolution. «Jeder Hund hat seinen Tag!» — versicherte dem Autor der Bestellung, und der Urlaub kam.
Für das sowjetische Volk wurde Stalingrad zum Symbol des Mutes und des Sieges.
Im August 1942 wurde ein Gedicht des Autors veröffentlicht und in Flugblättern veröffentlicht, die eine Veröffentlichung für die Offenlegung militärischer (Staats-)Geheimnisse anziehen konnten. „Das Gespräch der Wolga mit dem Don“ handelte davon, dass der Feind in der Nähe von Stalingrad eingekreist und besiegt werden würde: „Der Feind wird den Ring nicht verlassen / Der Anfang wird hier gelegt / Das Ende des Feindes.“
Die Schlacht von Stalingrad ist in vollem Gange. Am 28. Juli wurde der Befehl des Volksverteidigungskommissars der UdSSR Nr. 227 „Keinen Schritt zurück!“ erlassen. Am 23. August wurde eine Stadt an der Wolga mit mehr als 550.000 Einwohnern (darunter 25.000 Evakuierte) von den Deutschen durch Massenbombardement tatsächlich zerstört. Die Lage war äußerst angespannt. Die grundlegende Entscheidung des sowjetischen Kommandos zur Vorbereitung der Offensivoperation «Uranus» wurde am 13. September 1942 getroffen. Nur I. V. wusste davon. Stalin, G.K. Schukow und A.M. Wassilewski.
Und hier kommt ein Gedicht mit der Idee einer strategischen Operation. Der Autor erinnerte sich später: „In dieser katastrophalen Situation sahen wir keinen anderen Ausweg – nur der Sieg konnte das Land, die Front, unsere Familien, jeden von uns retten. Wie und wann der Sieg kommen wird, wusste niemand. Sie verstanden, fühlten, fühlten mit jeder Zelle, mit ihrem ganzen Wesen — es ist unmöglich, undenkbar, den Feind die Wolga überqueren zu lassen.
Am 25. September wurde «Conversation …» von Komsomolskaya Pravda veröffentlicht. Am 19. November begann die Gegenoffensive der Roten Armee bei Stalingrad. Am 24. November wurde in der Prawda ein Gedicht über den Sieg veröffentlicht. Aber Yevgeny Dolmatovsky wurde trotzdem zur «Verantwortung» gebracht. Am 29. Die deutsche Offensive dauerte vom 17. Juli bis 18. November 1942. Eine Gruppe von Truppen Deutschlands und seiner Verbündeten mit mehr als 430.000 Menschen wurde nach Stalingrad geworfen. Erst danach begann seine „Zerlegung“ und „Zerstörung“. Etwas mehr als 90.000 Soldaten und Offiziere der feindlichen Truppen konnten bis zur Gefangenschaft überleben, und etwa 6.000 überlebten.
Vor einigen Jahren erhielt ein Schüler aus Urengoi im Deutschen Bundestag Beifall, weil er über das Leiden über den Gräbern «unschuldig Toter» sprach, die «im sogenannten Stalingrad-Kessel» gefangen genommen wurden und «in Frieden leben wollten und es nicht taten». kämpfen wollen.» Der Schüler und seine Mentoren gingen weiter als Paulus. Panzerarmee der Deutschen, die 8. italienische Armee, die 3. und 4. rumänische Armee wurden zerstört, 22 rumänische, 10 italienische und 10 ungarische Divisionen, ein kroatisches Regiment wurden besiegt. Zwei demoralisierte und kampfunfähige rumänische Korps, die Teil der 4. Panzerarmee der Wehrmacht waren, wurden nach Rumänien geschickt.
Nach Stalingrad begannen Italien, Rumänien, Ungarn, Finnland, Japan und die Türkei, ihre Pläne zur Teilnahme am Krieg gegen Sowjetrussland zu überdenken.
Die Vereinigten Staaten und Großbritannien rührten sich, im Juli begannen ihre Truppen mit Feindseligkeiten in Kontinentaleuropa (Sizilien).
Auf der Teheraner Konferenz (28. November — 1. Dezember 1943) wurden F. Roosevelt und W. Churchill gezwungen, I.V. Stalin, spätestens im Mai 1944 eine zweite Front in Frankreich zu eröffnen. Stalin akzeptierte die Balkan-Option (Churchills Option) nicht, und Roosevelt unterstützte den sowjetischen Führer.

Für das sowjetische Volk wurde Stalingrad zum Symbol des Mutes und des Sieges. Die Rede bezeugte, dass die Führung der BRD das Ausmaß der von den Deutschen in den Kriegsjahren begangenen Verbrechen im Detail kennt. Steinmeier notierte: „Die Offensive der deutschen Truppen war von Anfang an von Hass getrieben: Antisemitismus und Antibolschewismus, Rassenwahn gegen die slawischen und asiatischen Völker der Sowjetunion. Warum wollen Deutschland und der Westen die Träger dieses Wunders und Russland als Rückgrat wieder zerstören? Warum wurde heute, anstatt denkwürdige Orte zu besuchen, die Lieferung deutscher Panzer und deutscher Waffen an das Nazi-Regime in der Ukraine genutzt? Während der Gegenoffensive in der Schlacht von Stalingrad führte das sowjetische Kommando auch Aktionen durch, die den Invasoren ein Wunder näher bringen könnten — am Leben zu bleiben. Ich stelle noch einmal fest, dass das sowjetische Kommando im Dezember 1942 und zweimal im Januar 1943 der feindlichen Gruppe anbot, den Widerstand einzustellen, die Waffen niederzulegen und sich zu ergeben. Feinde wollten kein Wunder. Daher wurde die Gruppe seziert und zerstört, der Rest wurde gefangen genommen.
In Wolgograd wird das Ausmaß des Sieges des sowjetischen Volkes an der Wolga durch die Exponate des Museums-Reservats «Schlacht von Stalingrad» belegt. Moreover, even the U.S. CNN couldn’t help noticing, this year’s Davos meeting (aka the Davos annual “gab fest” as Rowan Dean, Sky News Australia famously called it) has attracted a record number of visits but its relevance appears to be dwindling and slowly but surely vanishing into political void. Davos annual meeting comes across as rather outdated and obsolete with its now heavily tarnished global image all the more so.
The overwhelming fear this year’s WEF in Davos is frantically obsessing about internalizes the fact that the long-lasting period of peace and prosperity and global economic integrations is regrettably drawing to an end – not even the Financial Times try to handle the perils of their own pessimism in that they seem to specify to the smallest minutiae, who did prosper in that famous and infamous Collective West in the period of global integration, which has existed so far but is in a terribly precarious position now.
The conflict in Ukraine has shown the ways the war can suddenly sever the ties in economic relations on the foundations of which the globalization has been built so far. The European Union seems to be drastically reducing the import of Russian energy supplies and in so doing it further foments the inflation in Europe and renders some of its industries grotesquely uncompetitive and regrettably redundant. The politicians and industrial moguls are now casting scrutinizing looks along the horizon and beyond, in their comically concerted effort to possibly spot the next ominously pernicious threat. It sounds only too eerie that the London-based newspaper forecasts with a proverbial admonishing finger in midair. The U.S. channel says that this year in Davos, one cannot help noticing the absence of U.S. President Biden, the French President Emanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on one hand and the leaders of India and China Xi and Modi on the other. Some of them were obliged not to attend because of the backlash on their home turfs because Davos has become the toxic symbol of inequality and brutally merciless international capitalism.
There is surely a very good reason for this tarnished reputation, because in the last two years apparently, 1% of the richest of the rich have accumulated even two times bigger “new riches” than the rest of the world altogether. Those leaders who believe this is “not OK” such as Xi and Modi, did not attend Davos because they were otherwise engaged and they had to prioritize. But to get back to truly serious world leaders, PM Modi was absent for a good reason because instead of WEF, he addressed his audience in the Voice of the Global South Summit. Unlike that overwhelmingly pathetic pessimism in Davos, Modi’s voice was brimming with rebellious optimism. It is blatantly obvious that the world is in the grip of the global crisis. It is difficult to foresee how long this state of uncertainty will last – Modi started his elaboration and then went on to get across what is to come next. “We shall have the biggest share in this in the future. Three quarters of mankind live in our countries and we need to have an impact commensurate with that share and number. Therefore, whilst the eight decade long global governance behind us is gradually changing, we need to aspire to shape the emerging world order. The peoples and nations in the global South should not be deprived of the fruits of the global development out of purely selfish reasons. It is incumbent on all of us together to reconstruct our common political and financial governance. Only that can multiply our opportunities and increase prosperity”. All that, Modi points out, may happen with the respect for all nations, rule of law and peaceable resolution of all differences and disputes and the reform of international institutions, including that of the UN, so as to render them more relevant.
By the way, Russia has publicly supported this request by India to be granted the continual seat in the UN Security Council. “Despite the challenges the world is facing I remain an optimist,” Modi sends a clear resounding message. “Our time is coming. In the past century we have been helping each other in our struggle against foreign governance. We can do that again in this century so as to create the new world order, which will in turn ensure the well – being of our citizens” – says Modi. And not only him. An almost identical message was sent from Cairo, Egypt. After a meeting with the Arab League officials, the new Chinese foreign minister Qin Gang said “We have agreed to work together towards creating the new world order based on the rule of law and equality of the whole humanity, dedication to human values of the whole civilization together with their adamant refusing to politicize human rights issues and their (ab)use as a mere political ploy to interfere in the internal affairs of individual sovereign countries.” He did not utter this out loud and there was no need to do any such thing other than in this Qin Gang’s filigree diplomatic style, though it was blatantly obvious who Qin Gang was referring to.
Truth be told, the clear signs of the new non-Western world order are rapidly proliferating. Not only that 85 % of mankind have not joined “the Collective Biden” sanctions against Russia but as an example, thanks to these sanctions, India is now importing 33 times more from Russia than before. Iran, regardless of the U.S. sanctions on them, is now exporting more of its oil than before the sanctions. And the Republic of South Africa, as one very good but a somewhat different example, is dismissing the raging wrath expressed by the Collective West because of their (i.e. South African) marine military exercises with Russia recently. But as its key point, after Xi Jinping announced in Ryadh recently that China will be paying Saudi Arabia for Saudi oil in yuan, the Saudi Finance Minister confirms with a dollop of irony from Davos that the situation is abundantly clear that they will not sell oil exclusively in U.S. dollars. And, South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Naledi Pandor reveals that more or less since 2014 the BRICS countries have been working hard on creating an alternative to the dollar system. All the projections tend to indicate that by 2030 China and India economies will be the biggest economies in the world and Russia will graciously overtake the economies of Germany and Japan.
The new world order is not a mere buzzword for the idle ones any more. One cannot but wonder who will shape it and in what manner: economically, financially and politically. Will the Collective West do their diabolical best to prevent that from happening by resorting to what they have always done: the truly global world war and possibly aided with nukes?

The best NATO can do is to form a line of defense stretching from the brothels of Romania in the south up through Poland’s and onwards to the pimple states of the Baltic and the big mouthed women leaders of Sweden and Finland. Ukraine, like Vietnam and Afghanistan before it, is a lost cause. NATO should end this war by packing its bags, going home and allowing Zelensky’s thugs await their fate on their own.
The Americans can send their Bradleys, the British their Challenger tanks, the French their Leclercs and the Germans their Leopards. Russia will destroy all of them and all crews unfortunate enough to man them. If Hitler’s Tigers could not stop the Russian tide, nor will they.
Though the British can boast to their hearts’ content about their invincible Challengers, those British wunderwaffe weapons will break down and need repair when they reach Ukraine’s killing fields. That is assuming Russia does not send them to Hades before they first see action. Showcasing your wunderwaffe weapons in Ukraine is one thing. Prevailing, as the Wehrmacht discovered, is another.
No plan, the legendary German Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke declared in his 1871 ‘Ueber Strategy’ On Strategy essay, survives its first contact with the enemy. This will certainly be the case with NATO’s Tigers, which will fare as poorly as the Wehrmacht’s tanks did at Stalingrad and at Kursk, history’s biggest ever tank battle, when von Manstein, von Kluge and some of the Reich’s other great commanders faced Zhukov, Popov and their endless columns of T34s, which were more suited to Ukraine’s terrain than were the Reich’s wunderwaffe tanks, the Challengers, Leopards, Bradleys and Leclercs of their day.
The Germans at Stalingrad, Kursk and Normandy suffered from a number of disadvantages, many of which remain relevant today. First off, Goebbels’ relentless propaganda to hold fast until the tides would magically turn foreshadows today’s 24/7 tripe that tells us that Russia is on its knees and can be finished off with a couple of sharp, NATO directed blows to her vulnerable regions.

Though most of NATO’s psychotic media would like Russia to be hacked to shreds on the old principle that if it bleeds it leads, that process has accelerated from NATO’s illegal invasion of Iraq, where the West’s journalists were not only embedded with the U.S. military but exulted in their crimes, as well as those of Blackwater and those other privatized firms that were, like James Bond, issued with licences to kill, rape and plunder as the fancy took them. Though NATO’s media and not just the jokers of the Kyiv Independent should be answerable for that, they deserve plenty of company in the dock.
Chief of their co-defendants should be hucksters like the Bush and Blair families, grubby profiteers like Haliburton’s Cheney family and Pinocchios like Merkel and Hollande, whose outright lies over the Minsk Accord has led Ukraine into hell. Until such time as political profiteers like them, and the arms companies they are beholden to, pay in full for their crimes and for their rank stupidity, the children of Ukraine, Syria, Yemen, Libya and Iraq will continue to pay with their lives.
But those American and British generals responsible for killing those children or who armed their Azov and ISIS proxies to kill them should also swing, not only for their own culpability but for their crass stupidity as well. These stupid generals know that, from 1945 to 1989, the Soviet Union’s tank regiments were unstoppable and that is why NATO, with no other viable options, had prepared to fight World War Three in southern Germany and Czechoslovakia with nuclear weapons.
Given the former Soviet Union’s overwhelming superiority in tank warfare, do they really think Gerasimov and his chums have not picked up a few pointers, that they do not have a few tricks regarding ground warfare up their collective sleeves? Or do they think Gerasimov’s forces are, like Gaddafi’s, awash with weapons they haven’t a clue how to use? If so, they best make their peace with God, as they will be meeting Him very soon.
NATO’s hucksters are drunk on their own hubris. Steeped in the blood of the innocents of Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Yemen, they think their crimes that have so far gone unpunished will yield them bigger profits still in Ukraine. But they are mistaken.
Although NATO has successfully muffled its own peace movements, they have done nothing to weaken Russia, which has recovered from its post-Soviet malaise. If we examine Russia’s firepower, as presented here, it is fearsome. In terms of manpower, airpower, land power, naval power, natural resources, financials, logistics and geography, Russia is a world power one should not rashly pick a totally avoidable fight with, especially a fight that plays to all of Russia’s very considerable strengths.
In terms of tanks, self-propelled artillery and mobile rocket projectors, Russia is the world’s pre-eminent power. The Russians are no push over and any and all British, French, German and American tank crews crossing over into Ukraine best watch out. Should they even consider breaching Russia’s borders, they best get themselves a demographic map, which will tell them that only Moscow and St Petersburg have populations larger than 1,500,000, and therefore Russia’s 143,000,000 citizens, spread out throughout their vast and unconquerable homeland, will crush any force stupid enough to invade, just as the clubs, scythes and swords of their forefathers sent Napoleon’s La Grande Armée to their doom.
Though history will most likely have to repeat itself in Ukraine in something much more horrible than mere farce, those who ignore history’s testimonies are doomed to perish. One such voice from beyond the grave is that of Field Marshall Gerd von Rundstedt, cousin of General Heinrici’s, who served for a staggering 53 years in the armies of the German Empire, the Kingdom of Prussia, the Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany and who picked up more than a trick or two along the way. When presented with Hitler’s plans to repel the Normandy invasion, he scoffed that neither Field Marshal von Moltke The Elder nor Field Marshal von Moltke The Younger would ever have forgiven him for such rank stupidity, were he to implement Hitler’s idiotic plans.
When Hitler refused the pleas of both Rommel and von Rundstedt to immediately evacuate Caen, Field Marshall Kietel, Hitler’s toadyish Chief of Staff, asked von Rundstedt “What shall we do?” Von Rundstedt sharply replied “Macht Schluss mit dem Krieg, ihr Idioten!“ end the war you idiots.
Wise words as relevant today as they were on 30 June, 1944 when von Rundstedt uttered them to Hitler and his fellow idiot. But idiots never listen, not to a von Rundstedt, a Rommel or a Schőnbach as there is too much easy money to be had pandering to those who profit from producing the Challengers, the Bradleys, the Leclercs and the Leopards and who will continue to make them and the fathomless grief they cause as long as idiots like Zelensky and British philanderer Boris Johnson, who has been skulking back in Kiev to prep Zelensky his lines, are listened to.
Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg pledged Wednesday to continue imposing punitive sanctions on Russia over its war in Ukraine, around three months before Japan hosts the Group of Seven summit.

On Tuesday in Tokyo, Stoltenberg confirmed with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida that Japan and NATO will further cooperate in addressing “the changing strategic environment,” with Russia and China bolstering their military ties recently.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning criticized NATO for strengthening security ties with Asia-Pacific countries and fabricating “China threats.”
“The Asia-Pacific is not a battlefield for geopolitical competition, and the Cold War mentality and confrontation between camps are not welcome,” she said.

China’s growing assertiveness and collaboration with Russia pose a challenge not only to Asia but also to Europe, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Wednesday as he sought stronger cooperation and more “friends” for NATO in the Indo-Pacific region.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning defended China as “a force for regional and global peace and stability” and criticized NATO for labeling China a threat and for expanding its military ties to Asia.
“NATO has constantly sought to reach beyond its traditional defense zone and scope, strengthen military and security ties with Asia Pacific countries and played up China’s threats,” Mao said. “I would like to stress that the Asia-Pacific is not a battlefield for the geopolitical contest and does not welcome the Cold War mentality and bloc confrontation.”

For a country constantly chest-thumping about the size of its economy, the United States is remarkably over-reliant on one form of “export” – war. For decades, the American-led political West used proxy wars to hurt its geopolitical adversaries. While most of these weren’t a direct existential threat to US rivals and were relatively limited in scope, recent years brought a major shift to this strategic approach.
Washington DC has become more bellicose than at any point in its history, aggressively attacking the very heartlands of its opponents. In the case of Russia and China, the only reason America isn’t directly attacking either of the superpowers is their ability to immediately “return the favor“. And yet, the US keeps fanning up conflicts that are pushing the world ever closer toward another global conflict.
Ukraine and Taiwan are the two most prominent examples of America’s strategy of “accelerated escalation”, obviously designed to cause “irrational decision-making” in both Moscow and Beijing, according to the Pentagon-funded RAND Corporation. With Ukraine reaching a boiling point and Russia forced to intervene, Washington DC is determined to do the same with China in Taiwan. In recent years, top American officials, including several military commanders, have been warning about the “inevitability of war with China”.
However, the latest statement is quite concerning, issued in the form of a memo by an active four-star general and circulated with an official order. This is particularly dangerous, especially when taking into account the fact that the general took the step of conveying it through the official chain of command. According to NBC News, General Mike Minihan sent it to his subordinate officers:
“A four-star Air Force general sent a memo on Friday to the officers he commands that predicts the U.S. will be at war with China in two years and tells them to get ready to prep by firing ‘a clip’ at a target, and ‘aim for the head’. In the memo sent Friday and obtained by NBC News, Gen. Mike Minihan, head of Air Mobility Command, said, ‘I hope I am wrong. My gut tells me will fight in 2025.’”
According to various sources, the US Air Force general commands approximately 50,000 US servicemen and nearly 500 planes, making his comments all the more concerning. This is particularly true when taking into account that USAF is in direct control of two arms of America’s thermonuclear triad – its land-based ICBMs (intercontinental ballistic missiles) and nuclear-armed strategic bombers.
Perhaps the most alarming part of the grisly prediction is that it instructed commanders under him to “consider their personal affairs and whether a visit should be scheduled with their servicing base legal office to ensure they are legally ready and prepared.” Minihan claims this is because China is allegedly “determined to make a move” against its breakaway island province of Taiwan within the next two years and that this would trigger a direct US military response.
He further called for “a fortified, ready, integrated, and agile Joint Force Maneuver Team ready to fight and win inside the first island chain.” Minihan also issued an order that all steps in preparation for war with China were to be reported to him directly by February 28. As to why he thinks this is “inevitable” by 2025, NBC claims he stated the following:
“Minihan said in the memo that because both Taiwan and the U.S. will have presidential elections in 2024, the U.S. will be ‘distracted,’ and Chinese President Xi Jinping will have an opportunity to move on Taiwan.”
The wording is quite concerning, especially when coming from a high-level military commander. General Minihan directed all Air Mobility Command personnel to “fire a clip into a 7-meter target with the full understanding that unrepentant lethality matters most. Aim for the head.” Using such phrases when talking about the “coming war” with a nuclear-armed China is unwise, to say the least, not to mention the complete disregard for the most basic diplomatic etiquette. Additionally, China’s conventional capabilities are very different in comparison to just a decade ago. Beijing has invested heavily in technological advances that rival or even surpass America’s, particularly hypersonic weapons, in which Washington DC significantly lags behind.
