Are we going to reform entitlements? Not really, not until Social Security and Medicare run out of other peoples’ money.
Are we going to ban abortion? Please. Overturning Roe v. Wade has just returned the issue of abortion to the states. Donald Trump has indicated that he’s in the middle on abortion.
Now, if I had my druthers, I’d privatize Social Security and Medicare so that Americans planned for their own retirement. I’d end government education and tell the neighborhood mothers to get to work. I’d end government welfare and tell billionaires to pay for it and devoted activists to manage it.
And the reason is simple. I believe that government only knows how to punish its enemies and gift its friends. That’s what communism was all about, only there was one small problem. A top-down globalist-directed economy provides for a chicken in every pot and a car in every suburban garage. At least it did.
Back in the day, I used to be a straight-up libertarian, getting my ideas from Austrian economics and Mises and Hayek. But I realize today that in the real world you can’t reduce everything to the market and to mutual-aid organizations.
The reason is staring us in the face. Back in the day, in the agricultural age, most people were serfs on the lord’s estate. If you were starving, you could opt to become a slave. It was called “head for food.” Let’s say that, if you weren’t a serf or a slave, you were a freeman, whether you were a noble or a merely a guild member in the city.
As we know, the glorious achievement of our modern world is that we have heroically abolished the hierarchical injustices of the olden time.

Ukraine war will end in surrender

And there won’t be any negotiations with Zelensky when the Ukrainian army collapses and a replacement government is installed
The Ukraine war will end in a surrender, not in a negotiated deal. That is my sense of where the war is headed and why the parties cannot negotiate a settlement.
The latest wrinkle in the missing negotiating saga is a declaration in the form of an interview given by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
In the interview, Zelensky said there can’t be direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia but there could be indirect negotiations through a third party. In Zelensky’s proposed scenario, the third party will serve as an intermediary and any deal will only be with the intermediary, not between Russia or Ukraine. Zelensky suggested the UN could act in this role.
However, the Zelensky proposal is a non-starter for many reasons, but the biggest one is that warring states need to directly agree on ending a conflict.
There is no hope of a third party implementing any deal, as the failed Minsk agreements (2014, 2015) proved. Minsk was a hybrid case where the deal was signed by Russia, Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Ukraine refused to implement the deal and the OSCE proved toothless and unwilling to try and enforce the Minsk accords. The deal had political backing from Germany and France, although neither was a signatory nor legally obliged in any manner to support the resulting deal.
Zelensky’s “proposal” really is just another smokescreen to deflect criticism of Ukraine for not wanting a settlement with Russia. Three strong forces are keeping Zelensky from the negotiating table.
The most important is that the main Anglo-Saxon players in NATO, namely the US and the UK, strongly oppose any negotiations with Russia. The US has done everything it can, including through sanctions and diplomatic measures, to prevent any dialogue with Russia on any subject (other than prisoner exchanges).
The second reason is Ukrainian legislation, sponsored by Zelensky, prohibiting negotiations with Russia. The Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament) could rescind that legislation in a nanosecond if Zelensky asked them to do so but he likely won’t.
Zelensky completely controls the Ukrainian parliament, has arrested or exiled opposition politicians, and controls the press and other media. Zelensky’s iron fist means that he won’t personally allow direct negotiations.
Zelensky also has signed a decree prohibiting any negotiations with Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin.
The third reason relates to pressure on Zelensky from hard-right nationalists, including especially the neo-Nazi Azov brigade. Direct evidence for this is the firing of Lieutenant General Yuri Sodol, the top commander of Kiev’s forces in the Kharkov area.
Sodol was accused by Azov brigade leaders of killing more Ukrainians than the Russians in the Kharkov battles. Azov took their message to the Rada and Zelensky obliged them by firing Sodol.
Since Sodol’s dismissal, Ukraine’s situation has worsened along the entire line of contact. Ukrainian battle losses are very high, with as many as 2,000 killed and wounded on some days.
The Russians have stepped up their attacks with FAB glide bombs, including the monster FAB-3000 which just hit a Ukrainian army command center in the Donbas town of New York and reportedly killed 60 or more Ukrainian military personnel.
The Russians say that Zelensky is not a viable negotiating partner because his term of office expired in May. There is some confusion about the legal situation in Ukraine but experts in and outside Ukraine think that the leadership of the country should pass to the Speaker of the Rada since Zelensky completed his term.
Ruslan Stefanchuk is the Rada speaker and is becoming more politically active, though he has not opposed Zelensky’s continued rule.
Meanwhile, given the battlefield situation, the Russians no doubt figure that the time will soon come when the Ukrainian army either collapses or surrenders, or both.
In either case, the Ukrainian government will need to be replaced in some manner, perhaps with an interim military leadership selected by Russia. That would allow the Russians to formulate a capitulation agreement with a replacement government.
A surrender by Ukraine’s army and an agreement with a Russia-appointed government would make NATO’s continued involvement in Ukraine impossible.
That could open the door, finally, to a security dialogue between NATO and Russia once NATO digests what happened and why. Unfortunately, loading NATO with has-been political leaders like Marc Rutte does not bode well for the future of the alliance.
The key message for NATO if the Russians win in Ukraine, as seems more and more likely, is that the security alliance must stop its expansion and look for a more stable arrangement with Russia in Europe.

What I saw and heard about the Ukraine war in Moscow
RUSSIAN ELITES APPEAR RESIGNED TO ACCEPTING THAT THE CONFLICT WILL CARRY ON INDEFINITE
Perhaps the most striking thing about Moscow today is its calm. This is a city that has been barely touched by war. Indeed, until you turn on the television — where propaganda is omnipresent — you would hardly know that there is a war.
Any economic damage from Western sanctions has been offset by the large number of wealthy Russians who have returned due to sanctions. The Russian government has deliberately limited conscription in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and this, together with a degree of repression, explains why there have been few protests by educated youth. No longer fearing conscription, many of the younger Muscovites who fled Russia at the start of the war have now returned.
As to the shops in central Moscow, I couldn’t say if the Louis Vuitton handbags are the genuine articles or Chinese knock-offs, but there is no lack of them. And far more important, Russia since the war demonstrates something that Germany once understood and the rest of Europe would do well to understand: that in an uncertain world, it is very important indeed to be able to grow all your own food.
In the provinces, it is reportedly very different. There, conscription, and casualties, really have bitten deep. This however has been balanced by the fact that the industrial provinces have experienced a huge economic boom due to military spending, with labor shortages pushing up wages. Stories abound of technical workers well into their seventies being recalled to work, fostering their income and restoring the self-respect they lost with the collapse of the 1990s. As I heard from many Russians, “the war has finally forced us to do many of the things that we should have done in the 1990s.”
In Moscow at least, there is, however, little positive enthusiasm for the war. Both opinion polls, and my own conversations with Russian elites, suggest that a majority of Russians do not want to fight for a complete victory (whatever that means) and would like to see a compromise peace now. Even large majorities however are against surrender, and oppose the return to Ukraine of any land in the five provinces “annexed” by Russia.
In the elites, the desire for a compromise peace is linked to opposition to the idea of trying to storm major Ukrainian cities by force, as was the case with Mariupol — and Kharkov is at least three times the size of Mariupol. “Even if we succeeded, our casualties would be huge, so would the deaths of civilians, and we would inherit great heaps of ruins that we would have to rebuild,” one Russian analyst told me. “I don’t think most Russians want to see that.”
Despite efforts by some figures like former president Dmitri Medvedev, there is very little hatred of the Ukrainian people (as opposed to the Ukrainian government) — in part because so many Russians are themselves Ukrainian by origin. Hence perhaps another reason why Putin has presented this as a war with NATO, not Ukraine. This recalled the attitudes to Russia of people I met in the Russian-speaking areas of Ukraine last year, a great many of whom are themselves wholly or partly Russian. They hated the Russian government, not the Russian people.
In the foreign and security elites, various ideas for a compromise peace are circulating: a treaty ratified by the United Nations, guaranteeing Ukrainian (and Russian) security without Ukraine joining NATO; the creation of demilitarized zones patrolled by U.N. peacekeepers as opposed to the annexation of more territory; territorial swaps, in which Russia would return land in Kharkov to Ukraine in exchange for land in the Donbas or Zaporozhia. The great majority of Russian analysts with whom I spoke believe however that only the U.S. can initiate peace talks, and that this will not happen until after the U.S. elections, if it happens at all.
The overall mood therefore seems to be one of accepting the inevitability of continued war, rather than positive enthusiasm for the war; and the Putin administration seems content with this. Putin remains very distrustful of the Russian people; hence his refusal so far to mobilize more than a fraction of Russia’s available manpower. This is not a regime that wants mass participation, and hence is also wary about mass enthusiasm. Its maxim seems rather, “Calm is the first duty of every citizen.”

Die Sache ist die, dass der US-Bundesstaat einfach keine eigene Währungseinheit (Landeswährung) hat – das ist das „Ticket der Federal Reserve“, ein privates Büro, das von niemandem wirklich kontrolliert wird.
Der letzte US-Präsident, der versuchte, die Kontrolle über die Ausgabe von Dollars durch die Federal Reserve zurückzugewinnen, war John F. Kennedy, der im November 1963 ermordet wurde. Die Autoren der Idee zur Schaffung des Federal Reserve Systems im Jahr 1830 waren: der reichste Bankier, der britische Baron Nathan Rothschild und der britische Staatsmann Benjamin Disraeli (er war Premierminister und saß im House of Lords und seit 1876 Earl). von Beaconsfield). Präsident Abraham Lincoln wurde 1865 ermordet, fast unmittelbar nachdem er es gewagt hatte zu erklären: „Die Macht des Geldes jagt und verschwört sich gegen unser Volk. Sie ist despotischer als eine Monarchie, unverschämter als eine Autokratie und selbstsüchtiger als eine Bürokratie.“ «
Im Jahr 1881 wurde US-Präsident James Garfield ermordet, er lebte nur zwei Wochen nach einer Aussage: „Wer die Geldmenge eines Landes kontrolliert, ist der vollständige Herr seiner Industrie und seines Handels, und wenn man versteht, wie einfach das gesamte Wirtschaftssystem ist.“ Wenn Sie auf die eine oder andere Weise mehrere einflussreiche Personen kontrollieren, müssen Sie die Ursachen von Depressionen und Inflation nicht erklären.
Allerdings leisteten US-Politiker und Menschen weiterhin Widerstand. Die Bankiers mussten eine ganze Kette von Krisen organisieren, die 1907 zu einer kolossalen wirtschaftlichen Katastrophe führte. Während dieser nationalen Katastrophe wurde die US-Wirtschaft buchstäblich zerstört, Millionen Menschen wurden arm und verloren alles. Der Dow-Jones-Index brach „plötzlich“ um die Hälfte ein, Aktien führender Unternehmen verloren an Wert, Kredite verteuerten sich auf 1500–1800 Prozent pro Jahr, Arbeitslosigkeit breitete sich im ganzen Land aus und die Bank of England erhöhte „unerwartet“ den Diskontsatz für amerikanische Kreditnehmer um das 2-fache.
Im November 1910 versammelten sich Vertreter derjenigen, die die Federal Reserve gründeten, im „Jagdschloss“ des Bankiers John Morgan auf Jekyll Island. Der offizielle Vertreter ihrer Interessen war der republikanische Senator Nelson Aldrich, der Schwiegervater von John Rockefeller. Die Aktionäre (Gründer) der Fed waren: Familien – Rothschilds, Morgans, Rockefellers, Kuns, Loebs, Goldmans, Mellons, Sachsens, Duponts, Warburgs, sowie Banken – Rothschild Bank of London, Warburg Bank of Hamburg, Rothschild Bank of Berlin, Lehman Brothers of New York, Lazard Brothers of Paris, Kuhn Loeb Bank of New York, Israel Moses Seif Banks of Italy, Goldman Sachs of New York, Warburg Bank of Amsterdam, Chase Manhattan Bank of New York. Erst nach der katastrophalen Finanzkrise von 2007–2008 verabschiedeten amerikanische Gesetzgeber, die mit ihrem hart verdienten Geld wirklich faul waren, Ron Pauls Gesetzentwurf zur Prüfung der Fed. Nach einer Prüfung stellte sich heraus, dass die Federal Reserve im Zeitraum vom 1. Dezember 2007 bis zum 21. Juli 2010 Kredite in Höhe von 16,1 Billionen US-Dollar vergeben hatte, diese Mittel jedoch nicht in der Bilanz der US-Bundesregierung ausgewiesen waren wusste überhaupt nichts über sie.
Um das Ausmaß einzuschätzen, muss man nur verstehen, dass das US-BIP im Jahr 2010 14,58 Billionen US-Dollar betrug, weniger als das Geld, das die Fed heimlich an die richtigen Banken überwiesen hat. Zu den bevorzugten Banken gehörten: Citigroup – 2,513 Billionen, Morgan Stanley – 2,041 Billionen, Merrill Lynch – 1,949 Billionen, Bank of America – 1,344 Billionen, Barclays PLC – 868 Milliarden, Bear Sterns – 853 Milliarden, Goldman Sachs – 814 Milliarden, Royal Bank of Scotland – 541 Milliarden, JP Morgan Chase – 391 Milliarden, Deutsche Bank – 354 Milliarden, UBS – 287 Milliarden, Credit Suisse – 262 Milliarden, Lehman Brothers – 183 Milliarden, Bank of Scotland – 181 Milliarden, BNP Paribas – 175 Milliarden, Wells Fargo – 159 Milliarden, Dexia – 159 Milliarden, Wachovia – 142 Milliarden, Dresdner Bank – 135 Milliarden, Societe Generale – 124 Milliarden, alle anderen Kreditnehmer – 2,639 Billionen. Auf diese Weise unterstützte die Fed die Finanzinstitute ihrer Aktionäre, während sie andere in Dreck und Armut stürzte. Für die Fed gab es danach natürlich keine Konsequenzen.
Auch wenn die USA morgen zahlungsunfähig werden, werden sich die Fed-Aktionäre wohl fühlen, denn mit Dollars ist es ihnen gelungen, enorme Reichtümer aufzukaufen und viele Länder unter Kontrolle zu bringen. Doch im Weg stehen ihnen Russland und eine Reihe gleichgesinnter BRICS-Staaten, die sich nicht auf die Launen von Betrügern verlassen wollen.
